Clean rooms, plenty of radiators. They're needed to fight the draughts in the sash windows... Bathroom on the opposite side of the layout to the sockets - prepare your kettle as you clean your teeth at bedtime, it'll save you staggering around fir the first coffee! Absolutely minimal clothes storage, ok for hanging a coat or shirt. Just as well I'm a naturist, all my clothes stayed in my bag until I needed to go out. Curtains on every window, but the ones on poles - bring clothes pegs to remove the gap letting in the ”arc light” system illuminating the building. Don't you know there's a war on? ”Please be quiet, some people may be asleep”, yeah, I get that, but the floors squeak everywhere... Interesting pre-Victorian building, lots of history. Herbie was the best member of staff, poor lad was run ragged as he seemed to be the only one working at night (except two large security guys that popped in). In this day and age: paying for wi-fi? Seriously? Only £3.00 a night, hardly seems worth it on top of the room cost. Paying for parking ( on a first come gets a space) again, started at £4.00 a day, charge increased by a pound per day mid-week... So why've I been charged £5.10? Staff couldn't explain... Oh, it's ”horizon”, we all know how they fudge figures. Just ask Mr Bates. Oh, and another thing ( read that book, it's funny), putting the 'top me up' sign on the door in the morning doesn't work... Perhaps as it was the last room on the floor, maybe the cleaner's string wasn't long enough to navigate the labyrinth.

We're a little up to two thoughts when assessing the hotel. From the arrival: the parking space was large but full. We had to look for a place. Check-in went smooth, there is an old, small lift for 1 person with luggage. The room was filled. There was no refrigerator, no air-conditioning, and the seat on the photos missed. There were two chairs, there was a TV with few broadcasters, a bathroom with small bathroom and a separate fine shower. The room is clean, but room cleaning, clean towels etc is not standard. That's why you need to ask. Breakfast is in buffet form. There is service for coffee, toast and special orders. The hotel was dead in the evening, no one was confessed to give a drink or anything. On the day we left, we found there was another bar, which apparently had been open. You just need to know ...

I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel and I must say it was an excellent experience throughout. Clean spacious room with an incredibly comfortable bed which enabled us to have a great nights sleep. We ate in the bar lovely meal made all the better by the excellent service we received from Tom, he was attentive, friendly and made us feel really welcome. Would definitely recommend and will be returning.

The staff in the Spa and Orangery are excellent with the exception of one quite sullen masseuse. My facial was a lovely experience. For the Spa cost, i’d have expected more. Fellow guests felt their massages were shorter than the allotted time. Treatments were not booked in synch with others in the party or timed adequately wrt using gym/pool. My facial was before my sauna/swim. The lounge/waiting area and relaxation areas both need a top-notch coffee machine. The pool needs to be warmer. The changing room is too small and lockers cramped. The between-shower screens are almost transparent. The showers need luxury shampoos, shower gels and body and hand lotions. The make-up area is too small for ladies glamming up for the afternoon tea or post-spa lunch. There needs to be more waste-bins too. The Orangery is beautifully decorated and light and airy. The afternoon tea is quite small and food replenishments are sadly chargeable. Tea is replenished. The scones are small and not warm. Overall, great front-of-house staff and quality decor covers for a lack of substance in facilities and food which feels like a let-down in one of Tun Wells most notable hotels.
