The view is great and breathtaking during sunset. They keep the hotel premises and garden clean. But when entering to the hotel, we feel like its an isolated/neglected place. Path is broken and both sides covered with ugly trees and bushes. No one to look at until we park and go to the reception. People park the vehicles wherever they want blocking other vehicles (we had to wait nearly half an hour to move our vehicle because someone was blocking it).We got a deluxe room with pool access. The bathroom design is so stupid and uncomfortable design. Rooms are not nice as the photos they have posted in web. Room amenities are ok but furniture and design of the room looks cheap. There is a very small staff. They looked like some random people found for day pay. Restaurant has no proper AC. We were sweating while having meals. There was only one guy to serve us who is not even wearing a mask. Special thank should go to the Chef. He had arranged very tasty food for the limited budget(we heard how they discuss the meal budget and all. They were too noisy and disturbing). Meal quantity is really small. Took longer time to serve. However next day breakfast was a buffet which was better. Rooftop is flooded when raining. Such a beautiful view is wasted. Elevator is out of service and we have to climb 4 floor to the restaurant. (this was reported in other reviews posted long ago). Such a beautiful location is wasted due to mismanagement.

Thank you for professional cooperation at the stage of preparing the trainings for dentists on 21.04-07.05.2022 and handling the event. I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to your entire team, and especially to Mr. Sydney. I must emphasize the excellent preparation of the organization and professional service. He flexibly reacted to emerging situations, often exceeding our expectations. Unplanned room changes, additional training rooms or unexpected changes in schedules found great understanding and immediate action. His highly developed interpersonal skills and knowledge of customer service resulted in excellent and effective cooperation with us, ensuring the highest quality of event service. As a customer, I am convinced that he is a great asset to your team and I believe that his managerial skills and attitude benefit your company. We were captivated by the hospitality and friendliness of the entire staff. Special thanks go to the masterchef who every day planned various and delicious meals for us, both in European and Sri Lankan versions, and to Mr. Ravi who helped us when we needed it. Huge applause to the general manager that he was able to gather such a wonderful and committed team in one place. His personal participation had a huge impact on our positive assessment of the organization of this event. The high standards of service we experienced will remain in our memory for a long time. We have heard extremely positive opinions from the participants of our trainings regarding both the facility and the service provided. If you are planning a holiday, business meetings, training or a conference in Sri Lanka, I highly recommend to stay at the Thaproban Pavilion Hotel. It is a beautiful and distinctive facility located in an unusual place. I am convinced that we will return soon during the next foreign training courses in this region of the world. Best regards to the entire hotel team, thank you once again for a wonderful time. You wonderfully complement the pleasant experiences of beautiful Sri Lanka. I wish you a lot of success! Adrian

Thambapanni Retreat

This place took me by surprise. Leaving the loud main road, you wind up briefly to a perfectly serene, quiet retreat, staffed by some of the most kind and genuinely invested human beings I’ve ever met. Our rooms were great, wifi worked without a problem, and there was never any power outage. The kitchen is what really got me, though. I normally don’t eat much at hotels, seeking more local experiences outside. But during my three days in Unawatuna I did not once eat anywhere other than Thambapanni. The food here is nothing short of divine. Margarita pizza better than I’ve had anywhere, sautéed Tuna that redefined how fish could be prepared for me, hell even the base salad was masterfully seasoned and actually full of flavor. I actually got to know the chef, Lionel, just to thank him for his effort and the clear attentiveness and knowledge he brings to his craft. The waitstaff was also very helpful. Deshan in particular was so helpful, ever attentive without being obtrusive. At one point he even offered to bike into town to get some antihistamines for my wife, who was suffering an allergic reaction at the time. And the owner, Alex, even took me and my wife on a tour of his farm! This was the other secret to why their food is so amazing—aside from Lionel’s experience and professionalism, they locally source their ingredients! Alex showed us where they grow cinnamon, coconuts, bananas, and the chickens, so full and contented. Everything about this place was clearly the product of dedication and love, from the field to your plate. When we had to leave, my wife and I actually felt sad to go. And the receptionist at the front desk, having noticed my wife photographing flowers, actually made her an adorable little flower keychain from folded ribbons. Delightful location, unbelievably good food, kind and genuinely invested staff, 5/5 would do it again.

Nice place, close to the beach, tasty breakfast, cozy rooms with everything you might need. But the best part is staff, they are always super friendly, they really try to help you with any of your problems. Most of them speak English but with an accent that is sometimes difficult to understand (for me personally). They also would never refuse to talk to you if you start a conversation and it’s really really fun. P.S. special thanks to our house keeper Sapumal, very cute and polite person, he even made a towel sculptures for us, adorable P.P.S. There’s also a view point with binoculars on 14th floor, access is free and it’s usually empty, highly recommend checking it out

The hotel is really small, a bit disappointing. I booked a two-night, two-bedroom apartment. I want to try to discuss with the manager whether I can only stay for one night. After a fruit, a uncle who wears a tattered vest, shorts, and unbridled is a manager, then speaks. It is also very rude, the attitude is too good, and the words are rude and can not directly say no. There are only 9 rooms, in the mountains, black and dark at night, our 4 women, do not dare to go out at night. There are two beaches near the hotel. It takes more than 15 minutes to walk, and we meet weekends. Many locals gather for dinner, drink, and we go to the beaches in the afternoon. All the way to the big local men, a little scared, go On the beach, I saw two European and American girls in swimsuits, and a group of men who drank alcohol, they left, and the hotel was in a good environment, the room was very comfortable, and the surrounding environment was really bad. Looking at the sea view on the mountain, but the geographical environment is really bad, travel dudu, only suitable for staying in the hotel all day~ Breakfast is an order, it is quite rich, the staff are male, except for the so-called manager, the attitude is very good. Will not stay again

Gayan and his team were amazing. I’ve not had such homely service like this before in all my travels! They all went above and beyond to cater to all my needs and questions. The breakfast spread was vast and memorable, days after leaving its still all I think about! The room was spacious enough for me, though, do note noise from the road could be a hindrance to super light sleepers. I’d advise you have a room not close to the road. The hotel is serene and calm, giving of a relaxed and natural vibe in a bustling area. The change is welcomed after a long day out on the beach with people. 10/10 would return!
