Hotell Stella

Luthagen Uppsala|0.79km from Botanical Garden
Room is nice and cozy, and hotel layout is unique. Combined shower/toilet design helps save space. Hotel does not have a 24 hour desk, and after hours support is lacking. Hotel has transitioned to a digital key, and mine did not work a few days after check in, at 2 AM. After hours instructions are to dial a special number on the front door keypad which results in a very short time to talk to the after hours support. I was instructed to access the hotel safe to retrieve a digital yellow master key, after multiple redials. The safe was full of physical keys, but no digital keys! My door had no physical keyhole. Repeated calls to after hour support urged me to keep looking for a master key, until I gave up and just slept on a couch in the lobby. When the morning staff arrived at ~06:30, they had to wake up another guest to retrieve the master key from their room. Staff was able to get me a functional key hours later. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel, and more importantly, my flight on my checkout day 2 days later would require me to leave the hotel before the morning staff arrived. I could not trust the hotel to maintain access to my belongings after hours, so I checked out and moved to a hotel with a 24 hour desk (the only reason booked Hotel Stella to begin with was because all others in the area were booked, but an opening came up). The new hotel was comparable price but much nicer for a similar price. Wish they would have had availability to begin with. I requested a refund of my unused nights from Hotel Stella and the owner blamed me for my experience. After multiple rounds of communication, he offered to reimburse me for the night I spent on the couch, but would not excuse me checking out early, calling my reasoning a ”fantasy”. This is a solid hotel, but beware the management!

ArenaHotellet I Uppsala

The location is on the edge of the city, but the city is not big, the traffic is convenient, it takes only three minutes to reach the nearby large supermarket, which is very convenient. The hotel breakfast is suitable, the breakfast variety is there, there is hot water supply, it is difficult to find some hot water in Europe. The hotel room is large, and two folding sofas can be opened. The room can accommodate 4 people.

Uppsala Hotel Apartments

he apartment turned out to be better than expected, the only problem being location. When we booked we weren’t too worried about location as we have a car to get into town centre – in reality parking anywhere near the town centre is a nightmare for tourists. You need a parking app on your phone and also need to understand Swedish (which we don’t). In the end we returned to the apartment and took a bus instead – the number 6 bus stops around 400 metres away. The apartment block looks fairly new and there is some private parking available outside, although not one for every apartment and not bookable. Loads of space for pushbikes. The common areas inside the building are clean and tidy, a guest laundry is available. Our room was slightly bigger than expected, reasonable cooking facilities and a well designed bathroom to maximise available space. Overall a good stay, but if you’re going to centrum don’t even think about taking a car unless you understand the process or Swedish.

The room was good, the windows were large, the ventilation could be opened, and the view was satisfactory. Breakfast was good. The hotel is convenient for shopping, dining and sightseeing. The price is also fair.
Grand Hotell Hornan

I stayed at Grand Hotell Hörnan for two nights recently during my first ever visit to Uppsala and was thoroughly charmed. Staying there feels a little like traveling four or five decades back in time, and I mean that in a good way. It is not just because of the lovely Art Nouveau interiors that have been carefully preserved through recent renovations, but also because of certain nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of a time when traveling was exiting and a bit glamorous. It is not about over-the-top luxury, but loads of character and little thoughtful details throughout the hotel, like the weather forecast posted in the elevator and even the little piece of chocolate by the bed. How many hotels still bother with those? The rooms are beautiful and clean, the beds very comfortable, and the view, at least from my room, was lovely. The lobby staff is friendly and very helpful, and next to the lobby there is a relaxed and cosy bar for a quick bite or something to drink. The breakfast buffet is excellent and plentiful. Last but not least, the location next to the Fyris river a few blocks from the Central Station is unbeatable. For the price, this hotel is a steal. Highly recommended.
