This hotel is stunning and in the perfect spot in town. It’s not far from anything and has great views of the Matterhorn. Sean was an amazing receptionist and made us feel at home I only wish we had more time here. Whenever we come back to Zermatt I’m going to try and get a room here again. Thank you Sean and the rest of the staff for making our stay magical

Most helpful staff in every possible way. Great breakfast and excellent food over all. Perfectly close to the Sonnega train which is just across the street. Walking distance to Gornegrat Banhof and Bahnhofplatz too, and basically next to the town centre! Thank you for everything!

Our stay in Hotel Zermatt was excellent. The Ski access was right across the door - short walk to the Sunnega Funicular. Getting to the center of the town was a short walk. The front desk and the staff in the hotel are very helpful, friendly and absolutely made sure that our stay there was comfortable. We took a family room with a loft, this room is very spacious and updated. The breakfast service is excellent. Spa and Pool is the best I have seen in all my travels to ski in Europe.

Excellent service; thoughtful and kind. Amazing view. Easy ski storage. Generous and delicious breakfast buffet. Wildly convenient access to Sunnegga Blauherd Rothhorn cable car. Late checkout allowing for an additional 1/2 day of skiing. The were a lot of young kids and pre-teens in the Spa apres ski. However, there is an adults only area which is peaceful and relaxing

What an excellent hotel! Stayed for a week with friends. The rooms have everything you need and are very comfortable. The food is maybe the highlight - an extensive range available for breakfast with freshly cooked eggs etc and some superb 5 course evening meals that were delicious. All the staff were very friendly & helpful. The wellness centre is first class. As an added bonus it’s literally over the road from the sunnegga funicular lift for very easy access to the skiing.
Response from Property: Dear PeteCash63, Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We're thrilled you enjoyed your stay with us. From our comfortable rooms to our delicious meals and convenient location near the Sunnegga funicular lift, we're delighted you had a fantastic experience. We appreciate your kind words about our staff and wellness center too. We hope to welcome you back soon! Albano Sampaio Hotel National

We stayed 4 nights to go walking. It was the first time I had stayed at the National and we were not disappointed. We rang the hotel from the last stop before Zermatt and were picked up by the hotel van and were checked in within 10 minutes of arriving in the village. The hotel is very comfortable and within 2 minutes walk of the Sunnegga fernicular, which allowed access to some fine walks (at 80 we don’t ski!) and even finer restaurants. The staff were really friendly and breakfast was brilliant. Bastian, the manager, is a huge bonus for the hotel. He made an effort to talk to everyone and has a real gift at establishing rapport with the guests and making them feel at home. We felt he set the tone for the hotel so that there was a lovely relaxed and informal atmosphere. Well done Bastian and the team…but no you cannot buy my Gucci shoes for 18 euros!

Amazing hotel right by the Sunnegga funicular. It's the best location in town as you can literally walk anywhere in a short amount of time. Restaurants, the free bus, and ski shops are all steps away. The hotel also provides free taxi service to and from the train station. The free breakfast is really yummy with a wide selection. We particularly loved the fresh squeezed orange juice, honey from the comb, and made to order pancakes. The cappuccinos were spot on too! After a day of skiing, we enjoyed relaxing at the spa/pool. The staff, particularly Andrea, were all very pleasant and extremely helpful.

What a nice place. We selected it blind, but were delighted to find that it's right across the street from both the ski rental shop and the Sunnegga mountain tram. It was an older quieter place, but full of families. Room was very well kept and had a great view. Bed was a little firm, but I managed to find foam pillows which is important to me. Ski storage in the basement was super convenient and yes, they have an elevator. The best thing of all was the staff though. Smiles and Gut Morgen's from everyone. Bastien was incredibly attentive, Raphael was always there to help and Nikos was my go-to man to learn about the city and culture. And the mountain... What a memorable trip.

Excellent hotel. It was the little things - free mini-bar (once), leant us swimming trunk for spa when we forgot ours, free suncream and lip balm on arrival, excellent friendly host team, heated boot racks, lots of information. Was nearest hotel to lift. Spa was amazing - new pool and jacuzzi, amazing ice bath and big sauna and steam room. Lots of towels and dried fruit (dried bananas were nicest!) and fresh fruit in the Spa. Thanks NZ!

My family and I have travelled to Zermatt and stayed at the Hotel National six times over the last 8 years and I can not recommend it enough. It's a fantastic location, the rooms have been recently renovated and are incredibly nice, the pool and spa area are great for the whole family at the end of a long day of skiing, and my family talks about the delicious breakfast all year long as we look forward to returning again. The staff are what truly makes the National such a special place. Everyone goes out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect and, when needed, they go above and beyond what you would expect. This year, we shipped our ski gear home rather than carry it with us and mistakenly left some batteries in the bags which caused them to be rejected by DHL and eventually returned to the hotel (after we had been gone for 3 weeks). The hotel staff went through the bags, removed the disallowed items and then arranged for them to be picked back up. Above and beyond what I could have expected from any resort hotel. Thank you all again for another great Xmas ski trip.

Very nice hotel with a beautiful indoor heated pool with jacuzzi and spa area. Located within close walking distance to the train stations and downtown area. Friendly staff and helpful staff. The restaurant for breakfast was plentiful and had a good selection. Salmon for dinner was delicious! Room was spacious and fridge and coffee station are provided. Our room had a small patio off the back with chairs to sit with a slight view of the Matterhorn on a clear day!

Wonderful place! I highly recommend this place. Great service: reception, pickup at the station. breakfast was excellent. The room was very nice and spacious and the view on the Matterhorn was spectacular. Very closed to Sunegga and Gornergrat and to the Center of Zermatt.

It is indeed a really good hotel. Good location and a stone throw away from the valley station Sunnegga-Rothorn . And about 10m walking distance from the Zermatt Train Station. We had a family room with an open second floor/attic. The cool thing was that the open area between lower and upper floor was covered with a net that can hold pressure up to 750kg; about 12m2. Kids loved it! Even slept on it for fun. Even our room was towards the end of the hotel corridor, we could still see the Matterhorn really well from the terrace. Hotel staff are extraordinary friendly and attentive; e.g. Laurent; the chef for the breakfast (at least that‘s when we saw him); Laurent is a role model of excellent service and a rather entertaining person on top. Breakfast itself is average/good; not overloaded which actually is a good thing (thinking of food waste); you can order eggs/omelettes in addition which is included. Spa area is excellent; though here the only „but“: the swimming apparatus in the pool was out of order (how cool actually to have one!); on top on the whirlpool in the hot tub was only working half and finally the steam bath was also out of order. That almost lost them a star in my rating. Main reason: I was told that all three have been out of order for a while. I believe the hotel manager should take care of these things in a more speedy manner. Because; I can say the indoor swimming pool, spa and small fitness room are very, very nice. Warm water, two different whirlpools, baby swimming pool, 2 saunas, massage place (which we didn’t use); all presented in a very relaxing atmosphere. We also had dinner at the hotel on our first night. Food was good and well presented, the wine by the glass choices were in my opinion above-average in quality. They don’t have a huge menu but what was striking was the fact that they offer some really good vegetarian dishes; not very common in the village in my opinion.
