The room was fantastic! Our triple room on the 17th floor offered stunning mountain and water views when opening the window, creating a very tranquil setting. The rooftop boasts both open-air and indoor hot springs โจ๏ธ, available for unlimited free use with your room key card. The water temperature was perfect, and soaking in the springs, sipping tea, and watching the sunset was pure bliss! The buffet breakfast was quite generous. The room was notably spacious, especially for Japan. Complimentary amenities such as toothbrushes, combs, and cotton pads are available for pick-up at the front desk. Rooms receive a light daily service (replacing amenities, emptying trash, but not changing linens), with a full cleaning every two days. Complimentary bottled water is provided, and the bathroom includes a bathtub ๐. The front desk staff provided excellent, warm, and attentive service โ Japanese hospitality is truly outstanding ๐.
Absolutely a 5-star review! It's very close to the JR station. The guy at the front desk was incredibly thorough, helping with travel advice and even translating Chinese attractions into Japanese so I could find them on G-Maps. Breakfast was outstanding, with many ingredients sourced from Oita. The large public bath on the rooftop was also great, offering a fantastic viewing spot and an excellent place to watch the sunrise ๐ . Staying in Beppu this time and exploring nearby was definitely the right choice.
Location is near Beppu station.
Car parking was next to it, controlled by lift. Meaning park and the car was lifted in a building. Charged per daily and could retrieve car anytime.
7 private Onsen rooms, need to queue to use during evening. One or 2 was empty during afternoon.
Complimentary ramen in soya sauce broth from 10-11pm, if missed it, take the house brand instant noodle cup from reception.
Remember to take the complimentary Yakult from 6-10am. Coffee and matcha machine in lobby.
Remove shoes at lobby and roll luggages over a wet mat. Bare foot or socks provided throughout hotel, even at restaurant. Didnโt try the breakfast and dinner.
Typical Japanese hard mattress and pillows.
Good for families or friends up to 4 per room.
The lobby and rooms were clean, the staff were professional, and I had a pleasant stay. There was a vacancy, so I was upgraded from my original room. It was reasonable, but the quality of the experience was more than worth the price.
One thing was that when I tried to use the humidifier, the filter inside was not very clean, so I didn't use it, but other than that it was a very good experience.
Reviews often mention dust - this is true, unfortunately. Perhaps the reason is that the rooms are cleaned by old people, and they simply do not have time to do everything. When entering the room, we felt stuffy smell of dusty carpets. I took a rag and wiped all the carpets from dust to make it fresher.
It is also inconvenient that the dryer in the laundry room does not dry things after washing even in two drying cycles. If you load a full tank, keep this in mind. We had to hang things all over the room.
The reusable indoor slippers were torn.
Apart from this, everything is fine. The hotel is located 10 minutes walk from the station along the main street - easy to find. On the first floor you can take necessary amenities of high quality for free.
The room with two beds is small, the suitcase can only be opened close to the door.

This guesthouse has a story to tell in every corner, retaining some of its original Japanese style. The environment is quiet and clean. The evening hot spring bath is by reservation for one hour per group, allowing couples to enjoy a private bath together. A thorough introduction is provided before check-in. The owner is friendly and beautiful ๐ฅฐ. Breakfast is a traditional breakfast (the rice is superb). I highly recommend allowing time to fully experience and appreciate every detail. Although the location is a bit far from the station (a 15-minute walk), I recommend taking a taxi from the station to the guesthouse. There's a luggage delivery service to the station upon check-out, so you don't need to rush to pick it up. You can pick up your luggage when you catch the train (luggage storage costs about 600-800 yen). You can easily stroll around Yufuin, enjoying the clean air and streets. If I had to point out a downside, it would be the noticeable dampness of the tatami mats, probably because it's near a mountain and quite humid. Also, being a guesthouse, they don't offer any services after 9 PM. We arrived very late and didn't have time to buy anything before checking in. There are no convenience stores nearby, and the guesthouse doesn't have vending machines selling food. But as long as you don't arrive right on time like we did, you won't have this problem. ๐

I didn't have high expectations for the kaiseki course meal, so it was okay. The room was spacious, clean, and warm. The open-air bath, family bath, and hot spring were really nice. It's a bit too far to walk from Yufuin Station, so I recommend taking a taxi. The staff were friendly, and the person who served the food spoke Korean well, which was nice. There was also a Korean staff member at check-out, so it was convenient.

This is a trip to Japan after 6 years. Instead of choosing the bustling cities of Honshu, I chose Kitakyushu and arranged a two-day one-night trip to Beppu. I booked this little-known hot spring hotel.
An unexpected accommodation experience. The front desk ใใฐใใ can speak English. When checking in, he helped me book the time for the private bath. It was very good! The environment and facilities of the hotel are very clean and hygienic. Even if you travel alone, it is very friendly. The single room is also very spacious. It is even equipped with a massage chair. After taking a private bath, a massage is really quite comfortable~~
When booking a hot spring hotel, you must book their one-night stay and two meals at the same time. The set meal experience for one morning and one night is also quite good. Although there is no big fish, meat, and fresh seafood for dinner, the content of Kaiseki cuisine is also not small, and it is very delicious. There is no dish that is not good. Breakfast is also a set meal. Although eating rice early in the morning is not in line with the Chinese people's dining habits, the rice there is delicious. Even I, who never eat breakfast, finished it all. It is not easy!
Remember, when you travel to small places in Japan in the future, there is no need to squeeze into those popular hotels that are crowded with tour groups or recommended on social software. Sometimes, small happiness and surprises can be obtained in such unknown small hotels!
The hotel is in a good location, with convenience stores and restaurants nearby.
The hotel provides free parking with plenty of parking spaces. Seven-seater cars (large cars) can also be parked here. There is no need to worry about the height of the parking lot floor because it is 2.5 meters high.
The hotel provides disposable items, which is very convenient.
The hotel has swimming pool, fitness room, hot spring and other facilities...
The downside is that the bathroom in the hotel room is quite hot, and it seems that there is no exhaust system...
In addition, when checking in, there was clearly a staff standing at the counter who could help us check in, but the staff insisted that we use the self-service machine to check in ourselves, which resulted in it taking a long time to complete the registration.
I stayed in Beppu for 4 nights, trying different onsens at different hotels.Tsuruta was my last Beppu hotel. Although the room i stayed in is rather dated and items worn out, all necessary equipment are working very well, i stayed at a newer 4.5 star hotel prior and the air-conditioner, hair dryer and toilet exhaust were noisy and faulty, while in the older Tsuruta where everything works well! This don't judge a book by its cover, older hotels is just as good! I've attached a photo of the park and harbour view from my room at Tsuruta.

HHuanxiangyishujiaRoyThis is the best value-for-money onsen hotel I've stayed at in Japan so far. The location is excellent, just a two-minute walk from the station. The minibar in the room comes with two white peach jellies, and they offer complimentary noodles in the evening. After a hot spring bath, you can grab ice cream at night and lactic acid drinks in the morning. The value for money here is truly outstanding!
CChin Yee MelvynThe Grand Mercure Beppu Bay Resort offers spacious, clean rooms and excellent service, with staff who communicate well in English. The lounge is a highlight, providing complimentary snacks and drinks, including alcohol, though seating can be limited during busy times. Breakfast was average and could be improved, especially considering the price.
The hotelโs location is a bit far from Beppu downtown, which may be inconvenient for those wanting frequent city access. Parking spaces are also limited, which can cause some difficulty if returning late at night. Despite these drawbacks, the overall stay was enjoyable, thanks to the comfortable rooms and attentive staff.
AAichuxingdelvtuThe service was absolutely impeccable, truly embodying Japanese hospitality; they were incredibly polite and attentive. They also offer a complimentary shuttle service to the station, which you can book in advance. For dinner, the Kaiseki meal is offered at two sittings (6 PM and 6:30 PM), requiring a day's advance reservation. Teppanyaki is also an option. Drinks are charged separately. For breakfast, you can choose between Japanese or Western style; we all went for the Japanese option. It was incredibly plentiful and came with a large bowl of rice โ so hearty that we practically skipped lunch afterwards! The room itself was a bit dated, but perfectly clean and tidy. The private in-room onsen was incredibly convenient for a relaxing soak whenever we liked. Umi Jigoku (Sea Hell) is just a 3-minute walk north from the hotel entrance, which was extremely convenient.
AAnonymous Usergood value for money! would definitely stay again
location: it's relatively further from the station , around a 8-10min walk. there is a 7-11 just around the corner
room: my room came without a bathroom but for the ladies are 3 cubicles shared among the 7 mix gendered guests on the floor. i did not have to wait in line at all. there was more than enough space in the room to open my suitcase wide and still feel comfortable. bed and pillow was a bit hard though, and you can hear anyone talking loudly downstairs outside the building as the room is on 2nd floor, tho that doesnt happen very often.
food: amazing balanced breakfast that changes everyday - really delicious!
onsen: the one on 2F was smaller than 1F, but very good and comfortable. clean too. you can book a private onsen room for 500yen (50mins)
staff: all of them were super friendly, helpful and made me feel welcome. there are english-proficient staff available 24H as well :)
GGuest UserExcellent!
Awesome lobby, incredible seaview, great service, competent and very polite staff, good food, room very clean, onsen is great with free branded amenities choices ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป. location is a bit off, fortunately have shuttle.
Special thanks to Harada san ๐๐ป๐๐ป helped to arrange smooth transfer from hotel to airport.
Appreciate the hospitality from quite a number of multilingual staff ๐๐ป๐๐ป. Onsen is great, unlimited free drinks! ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ปcoffee, coke, green tea, etc ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
Breakfast is good, value for money, nice to try. Dinner is 90-mins semi buffet, no choice for the set, special arrangement if you donโt eat beef, but take some time. Lots of wine varieties, if you donโt drink alcohol, the dinner price is NOT worth.
My comment: Highly recommended. need to have car, my case is with sudden car break down with no replacement. Grandvrio did a great job!๐๐ป๐๐ป
GGuest UserWhat a pleasant surprise. Rex Hotel Beppu , from entering the hotel til the end (luggage pickup) the experience we had here was beyond excellent. I will bring my family here next time. ๐
GGuest UserIt was a ryokan that children loved and adults enjoyed as well. The location was good and although the open-air bath was not very large, it was a great temperature that children could enjoy.
MM375654*****Very close to JR station, 2 minutes walk by shortcut.
*Although check-in is after 4pm, you can store your luggage.
*Although the room is old, it is very clean.
*Free breakfast is OK, better than nothing.
GGuest UserThis room is best suited for couples or solo travelers. If you're over 180cm (about 5'11โ) tall, I strongly advise against booking it as you'll find it extremely cramped. Similarly, if a couple is on the larger side, it might be a tight squeeze. It's truly ideal only for those who are not particularly tall or big.
The main perk is the access to the hot springs at the adjacent hotel, where the water is wonderfully soothing. Although there's a hot spring swimming pool upstairs, it was too cold and windy to enjoy; I visited in late May, and it was still quite cool.
The location is very convenient, with supermarkets and convenience stores nearby. It's an 8-minute walk from Beppu Station, and even if you arrive by bus, it's just a 10-minute stroll, making transport very easy.
