"location is great! just a short walk to Cuba Street and waking distance to Wellington Waterfront, Civiv district and Wellington Cable Car. room is spacious and the kitchenette well equipped, we love there is a washing machine and dryer in the aparrment, a good stop choice for doing laundry and cooking home meals, few eating places around the area for those eating out, but some f&b do close pretty early with afternoon rest between 2-5pm, so check out the timings. downside the fire evacuation alarm went off twice in a night, we got back to our rooms after a long wait, but the firemen and engines were a special perk to our trip. no daily housekeeping service so those with longer stays have to ask for fresh linens when required. staff are friendly and helpful, will recommend this place!"

"The hotel has 22 floors, but rooms are located from the 8th floor upwards. During business hours, you can reach the reception on the 7th floor directly from the street via escalator, then take an elevator. Outside of business hours, you'll need to climb a steep staircase first, then take the elevator. The breakfasts are very good, but for some reason, the bedding and towels aren't changed."

"I felt this hotel was really, really old and cold. The hotel policy states they won't turn on the central heating unless they deem it cold enough, which I think needs some reconsideration. I figured the bathroom would be freezing for a shower, so I skipped it. I noticed the private bathrooms seemed to be better equipped, so if you book this place, definitely go for a room with a private bathroom. Don't even consider the others, or you'll likely be disappointed."

"I'm very satisfied! If I have the opportunity to visit Wellington again, I'd definitely stay here again! The kitchen, dormitory, living room, and lounge were all very user-friendly, making for a comfortable stay! The kitchen offered free unlimited milk and dairy. You could also use as much oil, salt, pepper, and spices as you wanted. There was also a lot of free food left by previous guests, which was very helpful!❣️ Yoga was held every day at 9:00 and 4:00 PM, there were running events, and art workshops, so it seemed like it would be easy to make new friends! (There were many long-term guests, so it seemed like people were chatting frequently.) The staff were also very helpful, explaining things to me and carrying my heavy luggage to my room.🙏🏻 A Japanese person living in New Zealand whom I met during my stay also said this was the best hostel in Wellington, so I highly recommend it!💫"

At the end of a busy day, travelers can unwind and relax in the hotel or go out and enjoy the city. Guests of this Wellington hotel can make use of the parking facilities. If cleanliness is important to you, this hotel makes an excellent choice, as our guests consider this to be one of the cleanest hotels in the city.

"The room was a bit small, but fully functional, easy to find, and relatively quiet. There's a H Mart nearby which was very convenient. It wasn't until the second day when I was out strolling that I realized the Parliament building was right next door, so I popped in for a visit. I saw some complaints on Google Maps about expensive parking, but I didn't drive, so I didn't experience any inconvenience. The front desk staff on my first day was an Indian guy who was generally understandable. The lady at the front desk on the second day was very enthusiastic. Cleanliness: The hallway had a distinct smell, like a mix of Sichuan and ******* areas... and there was a lingering masculine scent in the room, which required airing out for quite a while. Other than that, I don't have many complaints."

In their spare time, guests can explore the hotel's surroundings. For those driving themselves, parking is provided on site. According to our guests, this hotel provides a very high level of service.

"The room had multiple areas of built up dust that hadn’t been cleaned in a long time, and the shower had some mould in the corner and lots of soap scum around the bottles. The silicone holes in the shower head were all cracked and so the water dribbled down. I could also smell the drain. The additional windows installed (appreciate the building is historical) didn’t shut tight, which is a big problem in a windy city. The wind was howling through the window gaps when they were fully shut. Assume they were done as cheaply as possible. I was also a few doors down from the staff room, so I heard very frequent door slamming in the mornings which woke me up as it shook my door frame. There’s no way I’d be paying for full price for this hotel, but for a 50% off deal it was fine. The location is unbeatable and the bed was really comfortable. The room was a good size too."

"I chose this hotel for my 3-day stay in Wellington, and the room was incredibly well-equipped. The kitchen had everything you could ask for: a dishwasher, fridge, microwave, and a full set of cutlery and cookware, which made it super convenient to buy groceries and cook daily. The biggest surprise was finding a washing machine and dryer in the bathroom – it's the first time I've ever encountered a hotel room with a washing machine during all my travels! The hotel's location is excellent, and the lobby even offers complimentary juice and fruit. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay."

Boulcott Suites

I stayed at Boulcott Suites for three nights and overall had a pleasant experience. The location is excellent — plenty of eateries nearby (many Asian options), a New World supermarket just around the corner, and Cuba Street all within walking distance. For those driving, private parking is available at NZD 29 per night, though it does need to be booked in advance by calling ahead. The room itself was well-equipped, with nearly everything listed on their website provided. Amenities included tea, coffee, hot chocolate, an infusion tea selection, a coffee machine, kettle, washing machine, clothing rack, clean towels, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and a hair dryer. There’s also a convenient kitchenette with a stove and full set of utilities if you’d like to prepare meals. Do note that some basics like a toothbrush, toothpaste, shower cap, and bottled water aren’t supplied. I just drank the tap water, which seemed perfectly fine. On the downside, I felt the room was a little dusty, which took away slightly from the otherwise good presentation. I had also requested a baby cot during booking and was told it would be included, but it never arrived in the room. It wasn’t a big issue for me personally since the bed was large enough to co-sleep with my baby, but it’s worth mentioning for others who might rely on that service. All in all, Boulcott Suites is a convenient and comfortable choice in the heart of Wellington, with great amenities and an ideal location. With a little more attention to detail on housekeeping and guest requests, it would be close to perfect.

Aura Hotel is located right next to the vibrant Cuba street and Courtenay place. The room on level 2, block J was spacious and in great condition. However, the first room I was assigned in Block 'N' had a strong, suffocating smell and lacked windows. I called the front desk to request a room change since I couldn't find any windows in that room or the dining area, only to be informed that all blocks in the hotel were windowless. As I walked back to the front desk, I noticed a block with open windows. The front desk staff wasn't happy with me for checking other blocks and also annoyed when I informed him that I knocked on neighboring 5 empty rooms in the Block, without any response, to enquire if they experience the smell too. The personnel claimed that the block I saw was the only one with windows and was fully booked. I returned to my initial room, but the odor persisted, prompting me to return the keys and applied for a refund. After almost an hour, we inspected the room again with the receptionist, and surprisingly, the smell had vanished. Despite this strange encounter, I still opted for a room change. I was given another room in block 'J', which, while also lacking windows, it had a better odour. As I explored the floor after settling in, I discovered several other blocks with windows. This experience reflected very poor service and dodgy misleading information from the front desk. The first six uploaded images are of Block N, while the subsequent images, beginning with the keys, showcase Block J.

The staff were very friendly, welcoming & very efficient. They took the time to go out of their way to make us comfortable. The lift & room was just a little bit older around the edges, but still very good! The bed was heavenly-soft & lovely, we just wish we'd had time to rest & relax more than one night in Wellington!

Stayed one night at James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor for a conference held onsite. Check-in staff were friendly and efficient. The hotel has three separate lift banks servicing different areas — if you’re unfamiliar with Wellington, definitely ask staff to explain the easiest exit route to the city. It makes a big difference. Breakfast was a very large buffet with plenty of options, though I’ve experienced better quality elsewhere. The hotel itself is older but has solid bones. Perfectly adequate for a work overnight stay. For personal travel I’d probably choose somewhere with more atmosphere, however it felt safe and comfortable. One odd feature: some rooms face an internal terrace/window area — remember to close your curtains as people can see straight in. Bed was clean and well made, the room was tidy, though the carpet is showing its age. The shower had excellent pressure and plenty of hot water — a highlight. Overall: reliable, practical conference accommodation rather than a destination stay.

Location-wise, it's right by Wellington train station, making it a great choice if you're arriving by train or heading to London. Facilities: They're quite old. The air conditioning was one of those large, vintage units I'd never seen before, and it was incredibly noisy, so I just turned it off. The room had a microwave and cutlery, and surprisingly, a mini-bar – which you usually don't find in hotels at this price point. However, there was a snag: no price list for the mini-bar. While I knew the bottled water in the fridge wouldn't be free, I was still surprised to be charged $7 upon checkout (when a similar bottle is around $2.50 at the supermarket). Service: The downstairs restaurant has long operating hours. I was able to order a delicious burger after a late check-in, and grab a coffee and a pastry to go during an early checkout. Most of my positive impression comes from that restaurant.

The room is actually not as big as the picture, but the sanitation is very good. The front desk is very friendly and always provides the help you need. On the first day, I gave me a map of the city. After 2 days, I measured the seaside streets and piers with my feet. It is even more friendly for passengers taking the Airport Express AX. Under the intersection of Manners Street and Willis Street, walk south on the right hand side of the uphill road. Tea and coffee tubes are enough, and chocolate. I can't drink coffee anymore, I drink chocolate, and the hotel also prepared a large cup for me intimately. Very close to Cuba Street, in fact, not far from where to go. When I left, Beth happened to be off work, went home and drove BYD, took me to the airport, and turned a corner to see the filming place of the Lord of the Rings. Really friendly. If I go to Wellington again, I will definitely choose their home.
