Anji Travelogue: Checked in at Jiangnan Tianchi

The project was initiated in 1992, construction started in 1994, and it was completed and put into operation in 2000. With an altitude of 928 meters, it is considered a high point in the Yangtze River Delta. It was created by excavating and filling the depression between Tianhuangping and Ge Tianling mountains, and damming the tributary of Taihu Lake, the Xitiao Stream. The average water depth is 42.2 meters, with a capacity of 8.85 million cubic meters, equivalent to a West Lake. The dam's pear-shaped top allows for walking or taking a tour electric cart around the dam. Under the blue sky and white clouds, the valley between the mountains is a populated market town. Zhejiang's landscape of 'seven mountains, two rivers, and one field' is evident here. At 350 meters halfway up the mountain, there is 'Longtan Lake,' known as 'green mountains on both sides reflecting on the flat lake.' On the other side of the dam, there are two artificial snow slopes built along the mountain, with a total area of about 60,000 square meters, open from December to February each year. Leveraging the pumped storage power station, the Jiangnan Tianchi AAAA-level scenic area was created, and in response to the craze for ice and snow sports, a popular outdoor snowfield was built. The combination of infrastructure and cultural tourism not only allows for energy storage and peak adjustment but also brings considerable tourism revenue.
