Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque

Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is a landmark building of Brunei and a symbol of the capital city, Bandar Seri Begawan. The roof is adorned with 3.5 million gold leaves, and the immaculate architecture combined with the gold-plated main dome is very attractive. The artificial lake in front of the mosque perfectly captures its beautiful reflection. The barge named Mahligai is modeled after the royal vessel of the 16th-century Sultan of Brunei. Inside the mosque, the interior is relatively simple. Visitors can see Italian-imported marble columns, handwoven carpets from Belgium and Saudi Arabia, and a massive chandelier weighing 3 tons from the United Kingdom. Entry is free, men are required to wear long pants, and women must wear long robes with head coverings (free hooded robes are available at the entrance). Opening hours: (Outdoor) Daily 8:00-20:30; (Indoor) Saturday to Wednesday: 8:30-12:00, 13:30-15:00, 16:30-17:30; closed on Thursdays, open only from 16:30-17:30 on Fridays.
