Jinshan Temple The entire Jinshan Temple, nestled against the mountain and beside the water, sits high and overlooks the surroundings. The Nandu River is like a jade belt, the Nanshe Ridge serves as prayer beads, the Kuihaikou welcomes the sunrise, and the Wuzhi Mountain looms among the clouds. Ascending to this temple, one can see the vast expanse of the river and the lush green riverbanks, which refreshes the mind and delights the spirit! Jinshan Temple covers an area of 3,600 square meters, faces south with its back to the north, and consists of a three-tiered complex of three buildings each. The mountain gate is adorned with a popular couplet: 'Be at ease and observe the ease of observation, as the Tathagata appears as he is seen, and is seen as he appears.' Inside the second-tier Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Maitreya Buddha is enshrined, with a couplet on the hall door: 'The evening drum and morning bell awaken the world, questioning the pursuit of fame and fortune, while the sound of sutras and Buddha's name calls back those lost in the sea of suffering.' Above the third-tier main hall hangs a plaque inscribed with 'Daxiong Bao Dian' by Zhao Puchu, with a couplet on the hall door: 'Embrace the world in search of sweet rain to bathe in, as the blessed land of the great cosmos brings forth auspicious clouds.' One might say that the Jinshan Temple in Hainan captivates visitors with its extraordinary elegance; but rather, it is the statues of various shapes and expressions that enchant the beholders. Upon entering the temple gate, one is immediately confronted by two imposing door guardians, with eyes wide open and weapons in hand, standing vividly on both sides. Ascending the steps to the Hall of Heavenly Kings, one sees the big-bellied Maitreya Buddha laughing heartily, flanked by six tall deities with different expressions—some with mouths agape, some with glaring eyes, some raising hands, some waving arms, some with red faces, and some with black faces; enough to startle the faint-hearted at first sight. Climbing further to the top, one is greeted by the magnificent and resplendent Tathagata Buddha's main hall. The golden body of the Tathagata Buddha is towering and radiant, seated cross-legged with a gentle smile; his compassionate demeanor and smiling face remind one that the Buddha is silently 'illuminating all with the light of Buddha, saving all beings.' The temple admission is free!! It's only about an hour's drive from Haikou, making it very convenient for a self-driving tour. It's a nice place for a family outing during the holidays.
