A Little Trip to Chongzuo with Kids

At the end of November, I flew directly to Nanning with my parents and child. Renting a car at the airport was very convenient, and we drove ourselves to Chongzuo. Detian Waterfall (Photo 12) is Asia’s largest transnational waterfall. It looks truly magnificent from a distance. You can buy a ticket to take a boat for a closer experience (not very cost-effective). Along the tour route, various shops sell Vietnamese specialties. Subjective opinion: It’s a check-in spot; the several viewing platforms offer good views of the waterfall (when the water flow is abundant), but otherwise, it’s not worth much. Various specialty shops. Mingshi Tianyuan (Photo 3) offers pastoral scenery. At this time of year, the rice has been harvested, and only newly planted seedlings are in the fields, which look a bit sparse. Riding a bike around casually is okay. Subjective opinion: A check-in spot, okay for a casual visit. Personally, I think this kind of rural scenery is not as good as southern Anhui. Tongna Yuwan (Photos 4, 5, 6) is the filming location for the drama "The Journey of Flower." The boat ride on the water is average; the main waterway going inward is narrow with hidden stakes, so big boats can’t pass. The wider outer waterway circle has nothing much to see. The land route part is quite nice for walking and sightseeing to relax. Subjective opinion: Worth a visit. You can skip the water route ticket; walking around and stopping to look is pretty good. Tongling Grand Canyon (Photos 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) is a paradise for ferns and small insects. An underground river runs through it, with various plants growing on both sides of the path, including palm-sized areca palms, living fossil tree ferns, and more. When hiking, the end point is Tongling Waterfall. To circle back, you need to wear a raincoat or use an umbrella (true adventurers don’t mind getting wet). The return route goes through a cave and then up stairs to exit. Subjective opinion: Worth a visit. A truly great scenic spot. You can explore on your own without rushing through the whole loop (for very young children, it’s tough as you’ll be carrying them all the way). Food-wise, the steamed black-boned fish (long-tailed tilapia?) I had on Shuo Long Town’s street was delicious, with few bones and fresh meat, loved by the kids. Accommodation-wise, Ashu Courtyard near Detian Waterfall is good. Except for poor sound insulation, the design, dining, and outdoor activities are all nice (normal prices outside holidays). It’s cold, so kids can’t swim but can row boats and dig sand. At night, with the moon above the treetops and complete silence around, sitting by the restaurant window, drinking beer, listening to music, and eating is very relaxing. Everyone has different expectations and standards; the above are all my subjective opinions, so please don’t overanalyze.
