Dongguanzhai Fortress in Fuqing

Inside the gate of Dongguanzhai Fortress is a double-storey building, the first enclosure, with its back against the fortress wall, facing west to east (inward), and facing the hall. The structure is of the through-type with interlocking brackets, using a single column (one pillar for both upper and lower levels), and has a sloped roof. The front slope extends inward to form eaves, while the back slope covers the fortress wall, with the ridge shaped like a swan's tail. Both the upper and lower floors have five bays. The ground floor has a momentary passage for the fortress gate, with the front porch connecting to the front courtyard and also to the separate courtyards on the left and right. Behind the building, a corridor is set up with the gate of the Dongguanzhai Fortress wall, nearly 2 meters wide, wrapping around the entire fortress along the inner side of the wall, equipped with lookout (shooting) holes on the wall for defense against outside thieves. In front of the building is a stone-paved courtyard, with stone steps in the center and on both sides leading to the hall. The hall, gatehouse, and left and right corridor buildings form the first well, constituting a small enclosed community that is both sealed and connected to the left, right, front, and back.
