Bai Sha Lake

Xinjiang Bai Sha Lake Tourist Area is a national 5A-level tourist attraction, located in the northwest frontier of Altay region in Xinjiang, within the territory of the 185th Regiment of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and it is the first 5A-level scenic spot of the Corps. It is also the 5A-level 'Bai Sha Lake' scenic area within Xinjiang. Bai Sha Lake is one of the important attractions on the thousand-mile gallery of the Altay region in Xinjiang, 100 kilometers away from Habahe County, 260 kilometers from Altay Airport, 150 kilometers from Kanas Airport, 260 kilometers from Beitun Railway Station, and 770 kilometers from Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang. The Bai Sha Lake scenic area is about 2.5 kilometers northwest of the China-Kazakhstan border, with roads connecting it. The Bai Sha Lake scenic area encompasses all the geomorphological elements of the Tianshan Mountains north and south of Xinjiang: it has deserts, rivers, forests, grasslands, wetlands, Gobi, red cultural, natural landscapes, and other ten major tourist attractions. The attractions include: Bai Sha Lake, Singing Sand Mountain, Red Leaf Forest, Birch Forest, Eye Mountain, The North of Northwest, Military Outpost, The First Company of Northwest, Karasu Dry Gorge Site, Flood Fighting and Homeland Defending Memorial Square, and the former site of Shen Guishou raising the national flag. Its core attraction is Bai Sha Lake! At an altitude of about 650 meters, its water area is 5000 square meters, it is a small desert lake surrounded by sand dunes, shaped like a giant's footprint, legend has it that it is the last footprint left by the ancient giant Kuafu when he chased the sun to the place where it sets! On February 27, 2017, the Bai Sha Lake scenic area of the 185th Regiment of the Corps was promoted to a national 5A-level tourist attraction. On April 13, 2018, it was shortlisted for the 'Magical Northwest Top 100 Scenic Spots'.
