A museum worth visiting multiple times

The Yunnan Provincial Museum is located in the Guandu District of Kunming, next to the ancient town of Guandu. It is a comprehensive museum with a large collection and scale in Yunnan Province. It's also my first time in Kunming. I planned half a day to visit. We came in the afternoon when it was very crowded. There were several lines of queues outside, and we waited at least 50 minutes outside. It's best to book in advance as they definitely limit the number of visitors during peak times. I happened to meet a local who chatted with us about the local history and cuisine. The museum's exterior is red and has a shape similar to the Stone Forest, which is very special. Once inside, it was also very crowded, which is probably the case during holidays and festivals. The exhibition halls are categorized to display representative cultural relics from ancient times to modern times in Yunnan, making it a great place to learn about Yunnan's history and culture. There are seven permanent exhibitions in the museum, including the Preface Hall, Ancient Yunnan, Light of Civilization, Dominance in the South, Fragrant Buddha Land, Frontier Expansion, and Century of Change theme exhibition halls. Walking through from ancient times to the present, you can see the stories that have unfolded on this land of Yunnan throughout history. The exhibition hall is very large, and it feels like my feet are going to give out before I see everything. It is recommended to reserve at least three hours to slowly explore, as there are many cultural relics and a rich history. One visit is definitely not enough, and I'll have to come back to Kunming for another visit. There was an event at the museum on the day of my visit related to the Year of the Dragon and dragon artifacts, where you could receive a golden blessing. Due to time constraints, I couldn't participate, but I was still very happy to receive a bookmark and a 'Fu' character. Since Yunnan is located on the frontier and is home to many ethnic groups, many cultural relics bear the traces of minority cultures, which are quite distinctive compared to the cultural relics from the inland areas. In particular, the artifacts from the ancient Dali Kingdom and Nanzhao Kingdom are worth observing closely. The Yunnan Provincial Museum has a total of about 200,000 items. When visiting, pay special attention to the treasures. The Warring States bronze 'Bull and Tiger' censer, the silver-backed gilded Avalokitesvara statue from the Dali Kingdom period, Guo Xi's 'Travelers Among Mountains and Streams' from the Song Dynasty, Huang Gongwang's 'Liu Xi Visiting Dai' from the Yuan Dynasty, and the Ming Dynasty jeweled gold crown are all treasures and the pride of the museum. Transportation: There is a dedicated parking area for cars. From the Xingyao Road subway station, take a taxi or an electric car. For buses, get off at the New Baoxiang River Bridge station or the Yunxiu Road Intersection station. Personally, I recommend using a shared bicycle for convenience and speed. Tickets: Free, but it's best to book online in advance. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday (9 AM to 5 PM), closed on Mondays. Recommended visiting time: 3-5 hours Nearby attractions: Guandu Ancient Town, Dounan Flower Market
