Kunshan Zhengyi | A forgotten ancient town in Jiangnan

Zhengyi Ancient Town is located in the western suburbs of Kunshan City, Suzhou City, on the southeast bank of Yangcheng Lake. It is one of the three treasures of Kunshan and the hometown of the lotus and one of the birthplaces of Kunqu Opera, and it is also the land of fish and rice in Jiangnan. According to archaeological evidence, Zhengyi is an ancient town with a civilization history of more than 6,000 years. The current Zhengyi Town is incorporated into Bacheng Town, and the administrative establishment is Bacheng Town Zhengyi Street. Zhengyi, where people are outstanding and the land is spiritual, has always been rich in cultural atmosphere, and calligraphers have emerged in large numbers. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Zhengyi produced more than 40 scholars who were good at calligraphy. In the 1930s, two famous calligraphers, Qian Dajun and Li Xiaobai, emerged, and they were hailed as the 'hometown of calligraphy art'.
