| Kunlun Mountains. Qinghai·Golmud The most unforgettable part of the five-day Qinghai-Gansu loop is Golmud. Because here, there is Hoh Xil! Hoh Xil has many names, such as the Forbidden Zone of Life, the End of Heaven. In Mongolian, it means blue ridge, and in Tibetan, it is called Achin Gongga, which means the desolate land under the northern Kunlun Mountains. This is China's largest uninhabited area, with an average altitude of 4700, regarded as a forbidden zone for humans, but it is home to 230 species of wild animals and is known as the 'Third Pole of the World'. This round trip to Hoh Xil took 12 hours. We left at 8.00 and headed south along National Highway 3109, to the Kunlun Mountains, the ancestor of all mountains, the glaciers of billions of years, and the guardian deity of Hoh Xil, Yuzhu Peak. Driving on the endless Qinghai-Tibet Highway, all you can see are Gobi deserts, snow mountains, and wetlands. We arrived at the Kunlun Mountain Pass at 14.30, reached the town of Budongquan at 15.30, and arrived at the Snow Mountain Viewing Platform at 16.30. The journey we have taken is just a small part of the edge of Hoh Xil. The real uninhabited area is inaccessible. Because the weather was not very good on the day of the trip, we were always worried about whether we could see the Tibetan antelope, but when we got here, we realized that these plateau elves and wild yaks, Tibetan wild donkeys can be seen everywhere, no need to specifically look for them. As for foxes, wolves, white-lipped deer and other animals, it depends on luck. Take away a bag of garbage If you come to Hoh Xil, you will see a group of people. They pick up garbage along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway and call on everyone to take away a bag of garbage. This is a voluntary organization for public welfare environmental protection, purely spontaneous volunteers, in order to maintain the ecological environment of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The conditions here are very tough, three people sleep in a simple container room, not only have to overcome the discomfort brought by the plateau, but also the lack of supplies and bad weather. Finally, on the way back, we brought a portion of mutton to two post stations. When we left, we took away a few bags of garbage. We also hope that the next person to come to Hoh Xil can also take away a bag of garbage.
