To the white city of Tetouan in Morocco

Located in northern Morocco, Tetouan is about 35 kilometers south of the Spanish enclave of Ceuta and approximately 50 kilometers southeast of the port city of Tangier in a straight line. The city was originally established as a fortified town during the Marinid dynasty in the 13th century but was later destroyed. It was rebuilt in the 15th century by people fleeing the Reconquista. In the 20th century, it became the capital of the Spanish Protectorate and was returned to Morocco upon its independence. There is no railway station in Tetouan. The state-run CTM buses operate near the new town, while private buses depart from a location about 2 kilometers south of the city. The town is painted white, and the streets of the new town evoke the image of a Spanish colonial city. The old town features narrow streets lined with shops and stalls, with bustling areas as well as quieter, less crowded paths. Some items sold at the stalls may appear to be mere trinkets.
