#songkran2024 Songkran is also celebrated in neighboring Laos. Called "Pi Mai", it is a much more mellow version of that celebrated in the Thai cities. Some of the more touristy places like Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng etc can end up big, festive parties, but generally the whole thing is quite relaxed. I hadn't been to Vientiane for 12 years, so was surprised how developed it is becoming - a lot of money coming in from Thailand and China, meaning malls, movie cinemas, brand name shops and restaurants, improved infrastructure etc
