Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is a must-visit attraction when touring Lijiang, and it is also the mountain range with perennial snow closest to the equator in the northern hemisphere. It is parallel to the Zhongdian Snow Mountain across the river to the west and the Mianmian Mountain to the east, extending from Sanjiangkou in the north to 27°N latitude in the south, unfolding like a fan facing the ancient town. All 13 peaks of the mountain are longitudinally arranged from south to north, with the main peak, Fanzi Steep, reaching the highest altitude of 5596 meters, covered with snow all year round, with the snow line between 4800 and 5000 meters. It has the temperate maritime glacier closest to the equator on the Eurasian continent. In the Naxi language, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is called 'Oulu', meaning 'Mountain of Heaven'. The thirteen snow-capped peaks are continuous, resembling a 'giant dragon' soaring and dancing, hence the name 'Jade Dragon'. Also, because its rock type is mainly limestone and basalt, with clear black and white distinctions, it is also known as the 'Black and White Snow Mountain'.
