#Gamcheon Culture Village, Busan Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
For this seaside train trip, I want to go to Busan 10,000 more times!
Just finished a week's trip to Korea, and Busan left a deep impression on me! 🤩 Compared to Seoul, Busan is not only more cost-effective but also has beautiful seascapes that only exist in animations. 🎉 For the sake of taking this romantic seaside train, I want to go to Busan 10,000 more times! 🚂
🌊 Busan Two-Day Tour Guide:
Day1: Busan Station - Gamcheon Culture Village - Hujeon Village
Day2: Haeundae - Capsule Train - Busan Gwangalli Beach - Seomyeon Market
🚃 Gwangalli Beach Travel Tips:
1. The capsule train has two routes, one from Gwangalli Beach to Oepo (Haeundae), and the other from Oepo (Haeundae) to Gwangalli Beach. The second route is more crowded, but the first route is also great~ 😊
2. If you want to experience the seaside train, just navigate directly to Gwangalli Beach. Remember to use papayo navigation for more accuracy! 🧐 There are also many coffee shops near Gwangalli Beach, perfect for enjoying a coffee while watching the seaside sunset. 🌅
3. The photo spot in the first picture is on a slope looking towards the sea with a telephoto lens, just wait for the seaside train to pass by and snap it, there will be a train every few minutes~ 🚄
4. Next to this spot, using a telephoto lens to shoot the capsule train also produces great photos, and you can capture the beautiful sunset glow during sunset! 🌇
5. It is recommended to take the capsule train around 1 pm for better lighting and more photogenic shots~ 🤳
Come to Busan and experience this romantic seaside journey! 😘

My Trip at Gamcheon Culture Village Busan
#localescapes
Gamcheon Culture Village started as a base for the hardships of the Korean War refugees in the 1950s and is a place that has kept the history of Busan as it is, an aspect and trace of the modern history of the nation. The terraced group housing arrangement along the foot of the mountain and the view of Miro Miro Alley through all roads show Gamcheon’s unique character. The Village Art Project, which was launched by local artists and villagers to revive Gamcheon‘s characteristics and historical value, became a stepping stone for Gamcheon Culture Village Creation Project. Starting with this project, it attracted various public offering projects and has become a popular attraction with more than 3.08 million people visiting in 2019.

Gamcheon Culture Village is probably the most visited and photographed attraction in Busan. Established since 1955, the village started as a collective housing project for refugees. Over the years, it has transformed into a village dedicated to preservation and regeneration of the local community.
We started our journey from the bus stop outside the village. Maps and signposts are available at many parts of the village and do not worry about getting lost. The walk through the winding alleys in the village was full of surprises as we encountered colourful houses and beautifully painted wall murals along the journey. It was a fun and memorable experience for us taking pictures with colourful backdrop at different parts of the village. We also enjoyed checking out the souvenir shops and cool cafes in the village.

📍 Why Visit Gamcheon Culture Village?
If you're in Busan, the locals and the tour guides will tell you that Gamcheon Cultural Village is not to be missed!
Referred to as the "Machu Picchu of Busan", the village got its name from the hillside architecture and extremely colorful buildings. But that's not all it's famous for, it's an absolute intsaworthy spot and there's rich history surrounding it as well.
It's also full of cafes, restaurants, shops, and even art galleries. There are even cultural events and festivals throughout the year, so do check the calendar before heading over.
Also, if you're a Little Prince fan, make sure to drop by their Little Prince themed street! There's even a sculpture of the fox and the prince overlooking a breathtaking panoramic view of the village!

Headed straight to Busan after landed at Incheon. Had a quick bite of Tteokbokki, fish cake soup and sundae (not to my liking). Visited the must-see Gamcheon Culture Village again under the hot sun. We didn't spend too much time there due to the weather and headed to BIFF Square searching for bingsu.
Visited Yongdosan Park and the observatory deck at Lotte Mall. Dinner was the nice pork stew and pork soup at BIFF Square

One of the must visit place in Busan, South Korea is Gamcheon Cultural Village❤️. Its a historic village which has been converted to a lively colorful place by the people living here. You will find all kinds of colorful walls, vibrant photo points, different cafés, desserts, souvenir shops, hanok rentals, proper cultural shops and museums.
One of the best dessert I have eaten there is this Marshmellow ice cream😋
The ice cream contains vanilla/strawberry with chocolate chips inside covered with marshmallow on the outside. The shop owner roasts the marshmellow top layer in front of you and then you get to enjoy a completely new texture and taste of an ice cream.
One of the photozone included a BTS wallpaper as well for all the BTS fans all over the world.
There's a museum also which depicts the history of this village and its marvelous to see the development of this village from what it was in its initial years.
I use Naver maps while traveling around in Korea and this is the Gamcheon Cultural Village address:

If you want to experience a genuine local scenery in Busan, I'd like to suggest trying to visit Gamsheon village for walking and strolling for a couple of hours. Once a low income housing area that was quickly and cheaply filled with citizens fleeing the war, it has since been refurbished to the thriving, colorful, artistic village it is today. The houses and murals painted by local artists have turned it into a tourist attraction which is perfect for photography. If you want to get a picture of your life, you must not miss this place. It was more beautiful in person than in TV. The colors are so beautiful. The stalls there offer very delicious food and cheaper souvenirs and products. I love the history of the place. If you are looking for some souvenirs to bring back home, you can definitely find them here as they have a really wide range of cartoon characters to really exquisite art pieces. My advice-go early, wear comfortable shoes, dress accordingly, bring water and snacks. Overall, will really recommend first time visitors to Busan to really drop by here! The vibes are amazing and it just makes you so happy being here.

Price is quite affordable but they don’t have much range.
I went there during winter season, so dine in at level 3 open space is quite freezing.
There’s a lot of cafe there, but choose the one with nice view. This cafe is one of them.

Busan - Gamcheon Culture Village
After Jeju Island, my next destination is to Busan. Took an hour domestic flight from Jeju - Busan. Once in Busan, our tour guide had arranged a chattered bus service moving around in Busan is quite convenient. Our first visit will be Gamcheon Cultural village, one of the must visit village for new traveller. With 2 or 3 days in Busan is enough to visit top attractions and indulge with local delicious foods.
Here you need to go to roof top or higher ground of a building in order to see all those beautifully built houses with blue rooftops. A clean environment along the streets. There are many souvenir shops, arts shop, cafes, street foods and gallery showing antique collections.
I am really impressed the way they manage this village, very clean, hillside houses and friendly folks here. Will come here again once time permit me to travel in South Korea.

Make sure to stop by Gamcheon cultural village when in Busan! We spent an afternoon walking up and down the hills, enjoying the view and popping into the cafes, and little stores along the way. Many cafes have deck viewing points or rooftops for you to go out and take photos from a different view point. If you are a BTS fan, two of the idols originate from Busan, so you will see artwork along the way which was beautifully painted. We tried some Busan favorites like the water drop cake, honey frozen beer, and the roasted marshmallow ice cream! Luckily we could walk it all off 🤣

Colourful buildings in Busan
#urbanexplorer #southkorea #busan
A trip to Gamcheon Culture village is well with the visit if you are in Busan. We loved to see all the colourful buildings from the top of the hill, and loved even more walking amongst the little stores and buying a snack or two. Find these colourful steps that were painted with book spines for a cute photo.
To get there, you can take a bus from the bottom of the hill. It gets pretty fast up the winding hill so make sure you hold on tight!

If you’re looking for the perfect setting for ultra cute and vibrantly colorful photo shot , Gamcheon Culture Village is ideal, with its rainbow-coloured background with the deep blue sky and ocean in the background.
Gamcheon Culture Village is a must for anyone who is interested in the arts, photography, or simply visiting quirky, one-of-a-kind attractions that will literally make your jaw drop.
During my visit, I noticed several signs around town reminding visitors to be quiet during their visit, as many of the residents still live here and just want to go about their daily lives.
Gamcheon Culture Village is far from an undiscovered gem, if it ever was one, with nearly 2 million visitors per year. Masses of selfie-snapping locals and tourist descend on the village every day, so I would advise you to arrive early and on a weekday

Located at the southern part of Busan, Gamcheon Cultural Village offers a very unique experience for travellers, with houses aligned from top to bottom with each house decorated differently. Full of murals and figureines, it gives an impression for visitors that they have entered a wonderland in this village. There is also a stampbook for visitors to stamp on by visiting certain places, and many houses were converted either to museums, galleries, cafes, restaurants etc etc.
There are still residence staying there so visitors are advised to observe certain ground rules while visiting that area, and to prevent further disruptions to local residents, all visitors will be required to leave the village by 6pm. Nonetheless, its a very unique experience to offer when visiting the village.

Gamcheon Color Village
Gamcheon Color Village :The famous village in Busan appears on many TV channels as well as in music videos, featuring houses painted in vibrant colors alternating with each other.
- Colorful village with beautiful small houses with bright colors intermingled to create a beautiful and poetic village next to the sea. Looking from the bus station at the beginning of the entrance, you can see the whole scene of the rows of houses that are layered with alternating colors.
- How to go:
Arrive at Busan sasang bus station, Take LINE 2 to 서면역Seomyeon Station -> TRANSFER LINE 1 to 도성역 Toseong Station, then get off.
Out of the train station you can see the village on the high hill. From here you can take a bus or a taxi to go up to the village. If you want to walk, you can go up. However, with hot summer weather, I recommend taking a bus or taxi to be fast and save energy because the village is quite large and steep, so take your time to explore the village.

Beautiful view from Busan Gamcheon Culture Vi
Beautiful view from Busan Gamcheon Culture Village 💖🥰
Gamcheon Culture Village, located in the Korean coastal city of Busan, is the epitome of beauty and chaos, all rolled into one. Nestled into the side of a mountain, the former slum is a mishmash of pastel-colored, Lego-like houses, painted in 2009 to lure visitors up steep slopes and through its tiny alleys. Make a point of ticking off the following to-do activities while visiting this vibrant neighbourhood.
one of the best things to do in Gamcheon is simply get lost in its labyrinth of alleys. Because it is still very much a residential area, it’s easy to get a feel for what local life is like. While residents are very friendly, it’s important to be mindful of their privacy. Refrain from taking intrusive photos and keep your noise level down, especially in the evenings.
