There are so many restaurants , coffee shops, bars, souviner shops, tea houses and so much more. The cobblestone streets definitely made this old town so attractive. Here you can eat yummy food, shop to you drop and just watch all the beautiful buildings. Make sure to have some space in your bags before coming ;)

    The Old Town of Lijiang, which is perfectly adapted to the uneven topography of this key commercial and strategic site, has retained a historic townscape of high quality and authenticity. Its architecture is noteworthy for the blending of elements from several cultures that have come together over many centuries. Recommendation: Go to the top of the ancient town to the numerous coffee shops.   • Lijiang - Clear skies and wooden houses

    We came to Lijiang on a bus from Dali and let me start this with a practical advice, which is please do avoid taking a bus, unless you really enjoy shaking. Taking a bullet train is both cheaper and two hours faster (1:30 compared to 3+ hours). In our case the tickets were unfortunately sold out , so we got to enjoy the scenery. Lijiang lies on about 2400m, surrounded by hills and of course the magnificent Jade Snow mountain. Lijiang Old town is actually rather big and visually stunning. Wood is the main building material here ranging from truly authentic old buildings made primarily of wooden beams and planks to a bit more modern 'new materials covered with a layer of wood' architecture. In fact, when it comes to accommodation usually cheaper options tend to be the former and more expensive the latter so make your pick according to your preferences. Just walking through the old town can easily take you a day or more, because as you can see on the pictures the place is rather sprawling. The cobbled streets, wooden houses, bustling shops and restaurants are rather charming, especially when placed against clear blue skies. We took residence near the top of the Lion mountain overlooking the city. Our daughter likes cats a lot, so we spend more than one whole afternoon basking in the sun in a nearby cat cafe, called 2 meow I believe, while she was playing with the cats. Since Lijiang was the last stop of our journey we were a bit tired already , so we did not do much exploring outside the town and mostly just enjoyed the sun and the views. The old towns houses have mostly been converted to shops, restaurants, hotels or bars and I don't think I have seen more than a few that are just someone's residence. There are quite a lot of bars with live terrace music that play till eleven or so, so if quiet is your thing, do consider getting a place to stay with solid sound isolation or on the more quiet fringes of the old town. I would definitely recommend climbing up the Lion mountain though. It is open till 22h/23h in the evening, depending on the season and the tower on top really offers great 360 views of both the town and the surrounding mountains. #newyearadventure

    #2023TravelWish Attractions - Mufu Mansion, Old Water Wheel square, Lion Hill, Wangyu tower Hotels - So Many! We stayed at the Sunshine Inn #mountainview We were apprehensive about staying in the old town, but with its characteristic wooden buildings and narrow cobbled streets, we fell in love instantly! During the day time, you can explore the quiet streets, picking up traditional minority crafts in the stores and sampling dried yak meat and fragrant fruit tea. At night however, the places comes alive with live music, lights and delicious hotpot! #
