Singapore music box museum
This is a hidden gem in Singapore. I never knew that there could be such interesting facts on just musical boxes and clockworks.
Mr Minami, the knowledgeable guide, provided us with detailed explanations on how the music boxes worked, as well as the charming history of them.
It was an engaging and very interesting session. It's really eye-opening to view music boxes of various shapes and sizes, some being really small, and some being as huge as a jukebox (or larger), with different purposes and sounds as well.
The other part of the tour that surprised me was a collection of craftsmanship products from Singapore! It was great to learn more about the history of music boxes, and at the very end, we got to leave the tour on a delightful note!
At the end of the tour, we had a delicious meal at their museum cafe and the food was very good especially the rendang and curry chicken!
Hint: do not bend your entrance ticket! it does something special at the end 👍🏻😄
Amy.
Nice Visit at Singapore Musical Box Museum
Nice informative & enjoyable visit to Singapore Musical Box Museum. There are a total of over 40 antique musical boxes in the museum. It is a 40 minutes guided tour (reservation required) where the guide will bring you around the museum and explain more on these antique musical boxes.
During our visit, our guide, Mr Takumi even played quite a number of the musical boxes during the guided tour for us to enjoy.

Singapore musical box museum
Located in Telok Ayer area, the Singapore musical box museum features antique artifacts from 18th and 19th century Europe. It traces the evolution of musical boxes as it makes it way to Singapore in the early 20th century.
The museum is housed in a historical building, with a nonya style cafe at the 1st storey. It is easily accessible via public transportation (bus, MRT). Admission charges apply and organised tours can be booked. Next door to the museum is the Thian Hock Kheng temple which deserves another special visit to experience the historic building in its entirety. Recommended if you are visiting Telok Ayer historic district.

There used to be a cafe serving delicious perankan dishes here in the past, but now the place has turned into a stall selling ice cream. There is also the Singapore box museum located within the same building. You can make a reservation booking to be invited into the museum. There, you will be able to have a look at the various vintage musical instruments from the past till today. It is definitely a very exciting tour around the museum if you are a musical instrument person.

A hidden, small private museum next to Thian Hock Keng temple where this would be a lovely place for people who like antiques or music. This is also a guided tour, so do remember to book them online before heading down. Think there are only 5 sessions per day.
The pieces are mostly over 120 years old, are part of a private collection. It is amazing how good these antiques are being maintained and still sound clear.
However, there is a lot of listening and standing during this 45 min to 60 min guided tour. So not ideal for seniors.

Singapore Musical Box Museum
#singaporetrip We had a fantastic & interesting experience in d Musical Box Museum. The 50mins tour done by the Japanese owner Mr Minami was perfectly conducted. We walked around, admiring the intricately designed musical boxes & were awed by the craftsmanship in olden days. Learnt about the history of musical boxes & how they worked as we walked along the exhibits. The sweet melodies produced by the vintage musical boxes were absolutely enchanting. There are also some interactive parts where we can toss a coin into the antique musical boxes to play music. The most amazing part was we can use our paper admission ticket to play music too! It was a perfect way to spend a lovely day & we end it with eating Hokkaido matcha vanilla ice cream in the museum cafe! Btw meeting point is at the museum cafe where you can buy the tickets then & there. But do remember to book an appointment first. Strongly recommend to those young & old who enjoy music!
