Hotels With spa in Uva Province, Sri Lanka

This guesthouse was highly recommended by some friends, and they were right! We arrived on the train from Kandy in the afternoon, and even though we had not informed the owner of this, he was waiting at the train station to pick us up. It was a short drive to the Guesthouse, where we met his wife and daughter, were given tea and made arrangements for a trip the following morning to Lipton's Peak (to watch the sunrise - early start but awesome!) We explained that we are vegan, but this was not a problem, and the lady of the house made us the most amazing dinner, with several curries, rice, drink and dessert. There was a small additional charge for dinner - and I mean small, especially given the quantity and quality of the meal. Delicious! Our room was very nice and clean with a comfortable bed and a nice balcony, where we sat outside and just listened to the night-time nature sounds of Haputale. We also had a private bathroom with lovely shower (bring your own toiletries). We were only staying overnight, to visit Lipton's Seat, after which we had the most AMAZING breakfast (my first time trying coconut sambal, soooo good!) The owner had then arranged for the same driver to take us to Udawalawa, which is 3 hours away, for a reasonable price. If you are visiting Haputale, I highly recommend this guesthouse - lovely family, comfortable accommodation and fantastic food. Thanks

The ventilation window of the bathroom is directly open to the outdoors. After turning on the light at night, mosquitoes will fly in and small geckos will climb in. The room may be because it is too humid and has a smell. However, the hotel's service was very good. We went to Safari the next morning because the off-road vehicle was stuck in the mud and delayed the time. We returned to the hotel late. The hotel also called to ask if we needed to set aside our breakfast.

This place is incredible 😍 I don't understand the ratings because our experience at this wonderful hotel was a special treat in itself. Everything was excellent. The nice young man who greeted us upon check-in was the one who brought our luggage up to our room. He immediately gave us his contact information and was always available. (How were we planning to get around, whether we needed a transfer. He suggested some delicious places from our list and recommended a nice restaurant.) Yes, this is an upsell, but in my opinion, these are very important things in hospitality. Delicious and generous breakfast. The coconut pancakes were sooooo delicious; we've tried them in many other families, but here, they were amazing 😍 Breakfast on the rooftop with a wonderful view. Tea and coffee, not in mugs like everywhere else, but a kettle! It was a pleasure, thank you ☺️ The room was very large! It was spotless! Soap, paper towels, and bottled water were provided. The room even had a fumigator, but we didn't see any insects. No ants or anything else (so far, this is the first place on the island without such neighbors). There's a closet. The room has a balcony and it's not hot at all (you realize this when you're coming from the coast). The location is fantastic. A busy street is a couple of minutes' walk away, but the hotel itself is quiet. This was important to us. There are plenty of places to have a delicious lunch in the area. The 9th Arch Bridge is a 15-minute walk away. It's 15-17 minutes to Little Adam's Peak. It's a truly wonderful place. The squirrels chirp in the mornings. It's a local vibe, and I think I'll miss it. Amazing! What an amazing find! Food was out of this world. Pool was great and we just loved the sustainability of the place. Growing all the fruit and veg amazing!

This hotel is worth staying for the stunning mountain views alone. Otherwise, the rooms are a bit dirty, especially the bathroom, with lots of dead insects on the curtains. The bathroom lacks even basic amenities (soap dish, glass for toothbrushes, etc.). There were mosquitoes in the room upon check-in. The staff didn't seem particularly concerned.

Keeping in mind this is a 3 star hotel, the positives are the rooms are big with a balcony looking out at amazing views (ours anyway), and the pool is clean and quite big also with amazing views and a concrete elephant water feature!!! The location of the hotel is pretty good too - far enough from other properties to be quiet but close enough to Ella main drag that you can walk in 10-15 minutes or pay a tuk tuk driver double the rate of Colombo to get to and from. The big negative for us was that despite being told upon checking in that the room would be cleaned every day, it was not. And I was told the reason why was that we didn’t hand in our key for it to be done - which seems bizarre after staying in hotels for decades and not being told to or having to hand in a key in order to get a standard daily room clean. The insinuation that it was our fault for not handing in a key (not that we were told to do so on checking in) was extremely irritating. Food was ok but overpriced so we ate elsewhere (lots of options). There were lots of little things in the rooms that could be easily addressed to make them nicer - definitely not having ripped old bath towels, and removing an empty TV bracket from the wall (like a TV used to be there but not anymore - or was it just our room, who knows). All these little things add up to I really think the room rate is too high - but we are here in the high season so maybe that’s just the going rate.

This hotel is beautiful and modern. Location is great, easy to get to restaurants and shops outside of the hotel. Staff have been very attentive and helpful. They clean the rooms promptly. The laundry service is great. The staff even ran to help us push the car up the hill when it was stuck. Room service food has been very good too, their devilled chicken and pizza were the best. Highly recommend staying with Te Dalu if you are visiting Ella.

Pros: Quiet and private environment, beautiful scenery, good quality breakfast and room service, good service. Cons: Arrived around 3pm, and waited for a full hour to check in, almost collapsed. The room has no air conditioning and simple facilities. Open bathroom, don't take a shower at night, it will be cold.
