Driving to Qilian in Qinghai completely overturned my preconceived notions of Qinghai. Red Danxia landforms, towering snow-capped mountains, lush forests, cattle and sheep wandering the hillsides, and marmots running and playing in groups among the mountains—this is literally Switzerland, but with the unique, slightly wild tranquility of the plateau that even the Swiss Alps lack. 👉🏻 Sharing 5 must-visit spots in Qilian 🍀 Niuxin Mountain A national 5A-level scenic area, with an altitude of 4,667 meters. From Qilian County to Gangcha, crossing the Dadongshu Mountain Pass ⛰️ Taking the turn from National Highway 213 onto the Gaxia Section, the road is quiet and the scenery is stunning—a true off-the-beaten-path secret! Qilian County has many scenic spots, and Niuxin Mountain is a particularly special one. Niuxin Mountain stands at an altitude of 4,667 meters, offering views of all four seasons from bottom to top. From grasslands and forests to snow-capped mountains, Niuxin Mountain has become a paradise for outdoor sports, attracting many hiking and mountaineering enthusiasts. There are three hiking routes: a 4.2 km forest trail, an 8.5 km primitive forest trail with stone staircases, and a 14 km peak hike facing the snow mountains directly. However, the more challenging climbs and hikes here require professional guides. We drove up the mountain to the viewing platform just to enjoy the scenery. The red cliffs of Zhuo'er Mountain and the county town appeared prominently before our eyes. Halfway up the mountain, flocks of sheep and horses were scattered around, and in one enclosed area, colorful cattle grazed, making it look just like the scenery of Switzerland—only the cowbells were missing. The visitor center in the scenic area also has a nostalgic commune filled with old items from the past, which is worth a visit. Additionally, marmots are everywhere and can be seen at any time.
