I've stayed in Casa Geranio twice now, and I am a resident of Rio de Janeiro, that should tell you enough. The house is beautiful with unparalleled views of the city. The hotel sits on the hills of Santa Tereza facing the tallest buildings of downtown Rio, the mix of being enclosed in nature while looking at such an urban landscape gives you a nice summary of what Rio is really all about. Great for couples, me and the wife stayed there for our wedding weekend and liked it so much we were back for our anniversary. We've stayed at the private pool suite for the first time and the only bad thing about it was having to leave. However, breakfast is - to me - the highlight of the stay. Instead of a buffet they give you a curated experience, with everything freshly made inside the hotel's kitchen. Menu is built by a nutritionist which means the breakfast is not only delicious, but also healthy, nutritious and very well balanced to get your day started. It is a full meal very carefully crafted that doesn't weight on you. Just amazing. Nice place to just hang by the pool, enjoy the views, and just loose track of time. Perfect for cooling down after a long trip before going back home. I cannot recommend this place enough.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We loved our stay at Casa Geranio! The breakfast was excellent — fresh, delicious, and beautifully served with a view over the city that took our breath away. The host was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. A truly special place to stay in Rio!

Everything was perfect. Beautiful room. Claudio, Sophia and all the staff were extremely helpful, organising our trips and booking taxis and transfers for us. The breakfast was amazing, different every day. The hotel is an oasis in a busy city. Would definately recommend staying here

This small boutique hotel is in an amazing setting. Yes there are a lot of steps to reach the top but oh my, it is worth it. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome. The guy who took our cases was a trooper! He carried our luggage to our room with a huge smile on his face! The 2 owners, Claudio and Gabriel (I hope I have spelt your names correctly) are very passionate about their hotel. They greeted us by our names every morning at breakfast and made time to chat to us about what our plans were for the day and gave us lots of tips and advice. Talking of breakfast, what a feast. Every morning it was served on different crockery and the food was fresh and plentiful. We never managed once to eat it all! Great attention to detail. The cook was a very smiley lady who chatted with us through Google translate... The lovely guy who helped us with our luggage served the breakfast and remembered every morning how we took our tea and coffee. The whole place is spotlessly clean and the pool had a great view and was a very welcome relief. We would not hesitate to recommend this truly wonderful place. Gary and Karen

A truly one-of-a-kind stay! The hotel feels like you are in a tropical forest in the middle of Saint Teresa district. The room provided a great sleep without any noise disturbance. Claudio, Sophia, and the entire staff were gracious hosts and maintain a spotless property. Breakfast was abundant, freshly prepared and delicious! Would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Copacabana and Ipanema districts!

Casa Geranio was our last stop during our Brasil trip. We had stayed in various pousadas and were now accustomed to the kindness and quality of brasilian hotels and pousadas. I was excited to stay in this place everyone on all sites described as incredible and wonderful. Maybe it was all the five star reviews that biased me, but I was a little disappointed. Let me explain myself, and also start by saying I had a great stay all in all. The hotel is definitely very charming and very beautiful, with tropical plants, old fashioned stairways and different areas around the property, the cutest pool and very comfortable sitting chairs and beds around the pool. In the morning, during breakfast (which is very good, as everyone states it), it is lively and great. But after noon or so, when the owners, kitchen staff etc have left, the place feels very empty (because it is), and a bit lonely. There is always one member of staff should you need something, but you see what I mean. Same when you come back from a day in the city, it is very very empty. Some people will be happy with this, so this is not necessary a negative point, but I did not love it. There is no food service besides breakfast, but the guy who is here at night can make delicious caipi!! Thank god ! I noticed that in all the places I stayed in Brasil, there is always tea/coffee/snacks handy for people during the day. I did not see it there. Pool area is super cute and nice, but keep in mind that during winter, the pool is icy ! The room was nice and comfortable. Good bed, might need better lighting inside, but no big deal. Location: well, I know what the response from the hotel will be : "you should have done your homework". Well, you are right, I should have zoomed better on Google Maps. It is between Lapa and Santa Teresa's main crossroads, meaning you have to walk about 15 minutes to either one. Honestly, I did not feel like walking in that empty dark street at night. So we called an Uber, and since it is so close to all restaurants, at least 5 cancelled on us. I finally managed to get one, and a taxi back without problem. But if you combine the fact that after the sunset, the hotel is empty and that you can't just walk out if you need something, the isolation feeling was even greater. After check out, they can keep you bag and you can still hang out if you want. Beware, to use a locker and a shower, it is 50 reais...

We loved Casa Genario. The setting is superb - on the Main Street up to Santa Teresa and an easy 10 min walk down to the bars of Lapa. And in the most exquisite setting - the climb up from the road (they’ll help with your bags) means that you have the most incredible view out from the hotel pool and breakfast area - literally you can see out over central Rio whilst floating in the pool. It is incredible. And this isn’t even what we loved the most. Everything here is done with huge care and attention to detail. The owners and staff truly care whether you are having a good stay, and are lovely people. From thoughtful details like the beauty of breakfast (a work of art and different every day) to happily chatting about the wildlife you see from the pool or plans for the day, we simply could not have been better looked after. The nature in the middle of the city is incredible too. We saw swallows, parakeets, a hummingbird, monkeys, a possum, bats at dusk, all from beside the pool. Not to mention countless butterflies. Truly gorgeous. Casa Genario is true oasis in the middle of my new favourite city in the world. I hope I am lucky enough to be able to return.
