Cathedral - St. Mary

Located in Novi Sad, Serbia's second largest city, on the Liberty Square in the heart of the old town, it is the tallest building and landmark in the entire old town. It has a long history and grand appearance.

The main church of Novi Sad, the original church was built in 1719 and is located in the same location as the church today. In 1742, the church was destroyed and the new church was rebuilt in the same location. In 1848, the restored church was badly damaged in the bombing of the Hungarian Revolution, the bell tower was destroyed and later partially rebuilt. In 1891, the city council decided to demolish the second-rebuilt old church and build a new one at the same site. The new church was designed free of charge by Hungarian architect György Molnár in 1892. In the same year, the old church was demolished and the new church began construction. The main building was completed in November 1893, and the 72-meter-high clock tower with a golden cross was completed in October 1894. So now see the church of Mary built for the third time.
