large square in the old town centre
Also called Piazza Grande by the local population but bears its current name from Napoleon's sister who ruled over the city of Lucca in the 19th century. This square is very nice but it feels big when...
Considering the city of Lucca is so beautiful, this is a rather bland empty square in the South East of the city. Probably not worth visiting unless there is a special event like the festival.
The Napoleon Square was built in 1806 in front of the palace of the sister of Bonaparte and Duchess of Tuscany Eliza Bachchokki. The church, the tower and some private houses were demolished for the construction of the square.
