The Scuola di San Rocco was established in 1478 by a group of wealthy Venetian citizens, next to the church of San Rocco, from which it takes its name. Around 1570 Tintoretto was commissioned to paint the Scuola: you could find here really astonishing masterpieces.

One of the Venetian schools with a gorgeous facade. Quote lovely to behold!
Tintoretto designed the majority of this beautiful scuola, even sneaking in one night to paint an entire mural in order to win a competition. Filled with dark wood, red velvet, and gold trim, the dark interior is a classic example of the Venetian chiaroscuro technique.
Not to be missed, restored in 2012.
