A glimpse into a thousand years at Zhenjiang Xijindu
Xijindu was established during the Three Kingdoms period. It is a Yangtze River crossing and a transportation hub, as well as the only crossing to the north of the river.
Xijindu is different from other towns in the south of the Yangtze River; it has no waterways, only uniform bluestone pavements and blue brick walls, which make it more rugged and unique compared to the traditionally tender and watery southern towns.
Today, Xijindu has diminished its role as a ferry point. Strolling through the quaint and elegant ancient streets, one can enjoy a leisurely slow-paced lifestyle.

1 day trip in Zhenjiang? A temple to go
The Jinshan Temple is a popular Buddhist temple attraction in Zhenjiang. If you are fan of Chinese architecture and ancient culture, this is the right place to go.
This temple was initially established in Eastern Jin dynasty (323-325 BC), later became a Taoist temple. Fomerly known as Longyou Temple, became Jinshan Temple during Yuan dynasty. This temple was classified as national key Buddhist temple in 1983.
This temple presents an architectural complex of buildings, halls towers and the special 36m octagonal Cishou Pagoda in the top of the hill. The view from the summit is magnificent. Might be difficult for some people to reach til the summit of the hill, nevertheless the beautiful lake in the base of the temple presents an additional opportunity for a joyful walk.

An underrated treasure city (Zhenjiang, where Bai Suzhen was suppressed by Fahai)
Compared to the bustling Yangzhou in the fireworks-laden March, the small town of Zhenjiang across the river has its unique "flavor".
A historic street, traces of a thousand years, this is the "Manyan Fengguang Beigu Tower" where Xin Qiji climbed high and reminisced about the past, and the "Spring River is again green on the south bank of the river" where Wang Anshi felt homesick and restless day and night. This small town has inadvertently left behind many historical and cultural relics.
📍 Travel Guide:
1⃣: Jinshan Temple - Beigu Mountain - Jiaoshan - Xijin Ferry
2⃣: Nanshan
💖 Touring Tips:
Check out Zhenjiang's famous "Three Mountains and One Ferry" Jinshan, Beigu Mountain, Jiaoshan
🚩 Jinshan
The main attraction is Jinshan Temple, the filming location of 'The Legend of White Snake', with many classic scenes from TV dramas. Climbing along the trail to the top, you can overlook the entire Jinshan Temple.
🚩 Beigu Mountain
Ganlu Temple on Beigu Mountain is the same Ganlu Temple where Liu Bei sought a marriage alliance, and the Ganlu Temple dock is an excellent spot to watch the sunset.
🚩 Jiaoshan
It is also the only island in the Yangtze River surrounded by water on all sides, offering tourists a view. Climbing it is more difficult compared to Beigu Mountain.

Jinshan Temple in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu | The Jinshan Temple once flooded by the White Snake Lady is so beautiful!
Jinshan Temple, located in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, was originally built during the Eastern Jin Dynasty and called 'Zexin Temple'. It was named 'Jinshan Temple' during the Tang Dynasty, 'Longyou Temple' during the Northern Song Dynasty under Emperor Zhenzong, and 'Jiangtian Zen Temple' during the Qing Dynasty under Emperor Kangxi. It is a famous Zen Buddhist temple in China, and the Jinshan Temple mentioned in the folk tale 'The Legend of the White Snake' refers to this one. Along with Putuo Temple, Wenshu Temple, and Daming Temple, it is considered one of China's four great temples.
The temple is built against the mountain, with buildings upon buildings, pavilions outside the buildings, and pavilions within the pavilions. From the foot of the mountain to the top, one can see houses but not the mountain itself, hence Jinshan is also known as 'the mountain within the temple'.
Historical and cultural figures such as Yue Fei and Su Dongpo, emperors Kangxi and Qianlong, as well as the mythical White Snake Lady, have made Jinshan Temple in Zhenjiang famous far and wide.
Before May Day, there are fewer people, and there is just a light rain.
The scenic area also includes attractions such as the Lotus Pavilion, Qifeng Pavilion, and the 'Number One Spring Under Heaven'.

His virtues are forever cherished
To commemorate Wang Renkan, the people of Zhenjiang built a 'Wang Gong Temple' to the south of Zhongling Spring on Mount Jingshan in the western suburbs, and constructed an octagonal pavilion by the spring, named 'Jian Pavilion', symbolizing Wang Renkan's noble spirit and integrity, as clear and reflective as the pool water. In 2017, to present the precious historical materials of Wang Renkan's diligent and honest governance to future generations, Zhenjiang established the Wang Renkan Memorial Hall. The couplet inside the hall reads: 'For the people, he loved, cared, and closely connected with great deeds that will be forever recorded in history; with honest, diligent, and practical governance, his noble spirit and integrity enlighten the future generations,' which is a high summary of Wang Renkan's official demeanor.

Jinshan, the foremost among the three mountains
Located in the northwest of the main urban area of Zhenjiang City, Jinshan boasts secluded and exquisite scenery, and its natural beauty has made it one of China's famous tourist destinations since ancient times. Originally, Jinshan was an island standing in the middle of the Yangtze River, known for its beauty as 'a lotus flower in the heart of the river'. However, due to the eastward flow of the 'Great River', by the end of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (around 1903), it became connected to the mainland.
The Jinshan Scenic Area is the leader of Zhenjiang's 'Three Mountains (Jinshan, Jiaoshan, Beigushan)', consisting of Jinshan Temple, Cishou Pagoda, 'the Number One Spring under Heaven', Pagoda Shadow Lake, Hundred Flowers Islet, and Mirror Sky Garden, among other attractions. For thousands of years, many folk tales such as 'The Legend of the White Snake Floods Jinshan Temple' originated here, and historical figures like Su Dongpo and Yue Fei have formed bonds with Jinshan.

I thought Suzhou was already beautiful, until I went to Zhenjiang
It's more livable than Nanjing, more legendary than Yangzhou, this forgotten millennium-old city is excessively understated in its beauty! That's Zhenjiang! Spring is the perfect season to embark on a journey to Zhenjiang🌸

🌟Jinshan Temple
🎫: Off-season 50, peak season 65
A 5A-level scenic spot, the filming location of 'The Legend of the White Snake', the 'Golden Mountain' in 'Water Floods Golden Mountain' refers to this place! The temple is full of ancient trees and singing birds, set against yellow walls and black tiles, offering great visual appeal, with a high photo-taking success rate. There's also the official Jinshan coffee, which tastes decent
-
🌟Xijin Ferry Ancient Street
🎫: 🆓
A historical district, with a main street winding upwards, the foreground features the ancient city lights, and the background is adorned with mountainous temples and pavilions, exuding a sense of the past. Although the alley is not very large, the attractions within are worth stopping to visit. The Zhao Guan Stone Pagoda and Yuntai Pavilion are good for checking in. The downside is that it's very commercialized, and the commercial value for money is not high
-
🌟Zhenjiang Museum (Former British Consulate)
🎫: 🆓 Reservation required
Adjacent to Xijin Ferry Ancient Street, the museum has two exhibition halls, featuring bronze ware, gold and silver ware, and crafts. Admission is free, but reservations must be made in advance on 🍊. There might be street musicians playing outside the museum, which is quite romantic
-
🌟Beigu Mountain
🎫: 30
Steep and towering, standing on the north bank of the Yangtze River, Ganlu Temple is located here, but it's not the one from the story of Huanhuan. There are fewer tourists than at Jinshan, suitable for climbing and enjoying the panoramic view of Zhenjiang
-
🌟Jiangda Back Street Snack Street
🎫: 🆓
Gathering delicacies from all over, reminiscent of the college days, you can come here for the night market. I chose a few stalls with friends, none of which were disappointing, but they were also quite common, and the location is relatively remote
-
🌟Guanyin Bridge Alley
🎫: 🆓
This street has many beautiful shops, mostly coffee shops and simple meals. The reviews are mixed, so it's best to search for ratings before going
-
🚄About transportation: It's very close to Yangzhou, Nanjing, and Shanghai! An excellent choice for weekend trips! The attractions in Zhenjiang are mostly connected and close to each other, making it convenient to take the bus
-
🍜Food recommendation: Pot Cover Noodles (just pick any shop, they're all pretty good), Feiquan's buns
-
❌Avoid: Went to try the loin at the entrance of Yong'an Food Market because of its fame, but it felt very ordinary, not really worth a special trip

The people of Zhenjiang are really tight-lipped, I recommend this place over Jinshan Temple!!!!
True mountains and waters "anchor" the south of the Yangtze River
A low-key and niche city—Zhenjiang
In the mountains and temples of Zhenjiang, what is well-known
Without a doubt, are Jinshan and Jinshan Temple
Fahai, Bai Niangzi, and the flooding of Jinshan, stories that have been passed down to this day
But compared to Jinshan, I recommend
——— Jiaoshan
▪️ Jiaoshan
Formerly known as "Qiaoshan" "Qiaoshan", now renamed "Jiaoshan"
Named after Jiao Guang of the Eastern Han Dynasty who lived in seclusion here...
Jiaoshan is an island surrounded by water on all sides in the Yangtze River
Therefore, it also has the reputation of "Floating Jade" in the river
▪️ Jiaoshan
Rich in nature, with fewer tourists
But the things to see and play are not few
✔️ Dinghui Temple, one of the earliest temples in the south of the Yangtze River
✔️ Stele Forest, hiding more than 400 pieces of inscriptions from different dynasties
✔️ Cliff carvings, inscriptions by famous people from various dynasties over thousands of years
✔️ Wanfo Pagoda, located at the summit of Jiaoshan
...
There are also ancient gun emplacements, Osmanthus Garden, and you can also take a boat...
I really like the natural ecology here
Many trees are full of tree vigor🌳
And the lawns are suitable for setting up canopies and tents🏕️
No wonder the people of Zhenjiang are tight-lipped and don't promote Jiaoshan
Worried that their own backyard garden will become crowded, right?

Took a boat trip to Jiaoshan for sightseeing
Today, I arrived at the famous city of Zhenjiang, which is well-known for its three mountains. So, I took a taxi to the renowned Jiaoshan Scenic Area. To visit the island across the river, one must take a ferry. It's quite nice; the scenery is very beautiful. After strolling around, I realized that it had been over an hour, haha😆
ROWAN TOWNSEND
Jiaoshan offers a scenic retreat brimming with vitality
A travel blogger wrote it well: Jinshan has a myth, Beigushan has a history, and Jiaoshan has a culture.
Take the bus to the Jiaoshan Scenic Area station, and right off the bus is the south gate of Jiaoshan, where the ferry docks. The area is not large, akin to a small park, and a stroll for 2-3 hours is quite fitting.
Passing through the mountain gate, the incense at Dinghui Temple wafts gently. Beyond the cliff carvings, robust and tender, they subtly grace the cliffs weathered by time. Ascending the steps, the grandeur of the pavilion is obscured by the surrounding dense forests and bamboo, and the once open view is no longer visible. The Wanfo Pagoda is temporarily closed for maintenance, but as a landmark, it remains a popular subject for photographers.
After passing the Xijiang Tower, circling back to Biefeng An, and descending the steps, a small path leads along the river behind the mountain, directly back to the cliff carvings, and then via the Jiangshan wooden walkway back to the ferry dock. It is sunset, and the journey is exceptionally beautiful.
Jiaoshan, surrounded by water on all sides, floats in the river, likened by the ancients to a floating jade. I think it is perhaps a small piece of jasper, petite in form but broad in spirit. With an elevation of just over 70 meters and a modest size, it is indeed a small piece of jasper. With a broad view, looking towards Zhenjiang, towards the Yangtze River, watching the sunset glow in unison, the heart feels as wide as the heavens and the earth.

Beigushan Park Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Leisurely visit to Zhenjiang - Beigu Mountain.
🌟🌟Because of a line in Xin Qiji's "Memories of the North Tower at Jingkou, Forever Happy" that says "Through the ages, heroes are nowhere to be found, where Sun Zhongmou once stood," he has always been reminded of the ancient history of Beigu Mountain. Of course, Beigu Mountain first became famous during the Three Kingdoms period, when Liu Bei's marriage proposal took place at Ganlu Temple. Later, Emperor Wu of the Southern Liang Dynasty carried the title of "the greatest landscape under heaven," which made the mountain even more renowned. In another poem by Xin Qiji, "Nanxiangzi: Memories of the North Tower at Jingkou," he writes, "Where can I see the divine land? The view from the Beigu Tower fills my eyes. How many events of rise and fall have occurred over the ages? Endlessly, the Yangtze River flows." This poem fully captures the natural beauty and historical significance of Beigu Mountain.
✅✅The main attractions of Beigushan include Ganlu Temple, Beigu Tower, Duojing Tower, the stone carving of "the first mountain under heaven", Iron Tower, Jijiang Pavilion, as well as Henshi, Liuma Ravine, Shijian Stone and the tomb of Taishi Ci.

Beigushan in Zhenjiang
Beigushan, one of the three famous mountains in Zhenjiang, offers a panoramic view of the north, with its horizontal pillow on the Yangtze River, craggy stone walls, and precipitous mountain terrain, hence the name Beigushan. The story of 'Ganlu Temple's Liu Bei's marriage proposal' took place on Beigushan during the Three Kingdoms period. Beigushan, known for its ruggedness, has been famous for thousands of years because of the Three Kingdoms story. In the historical and cultural year of 1205, Xin Qiji, a great poet of the Southern Song Dynasty, climbed Beigushan, observed the scenery, and expressed his feelings, leaving behind an eternal masterpiece.
Nanxiangzi·Climbing to the Beigu Pavilion in Jingkou to Reflect on the Past
Author: Xin Qiji
Where can I view the divine land? My eyes are filled with the landscape of Beigu Tower. How many events have risen and fallen over the millennia? Endless! The Yangtze River flows on and on.
As a youth, I wore my armor, sitting until the wars in the southeast ceased. Who among the heroes of the world could match? Cao and Liu! To have a son like Sun Zhongmou.
