We arrived on the 15th and checked in around 3 pm. We were given a room on the ground floor, the room was clean and presentable. We were in Stockton following a close family bereavement and to visit a friend for her birthday, we took the opportunity to see a show at the Globe on the Friday evening planning to stay the Saturday to see our friends and watch the 6 nations locally. We returned to the hotel after the show and went to the Beefeater next door for a nightcap. Staff there were very friendly and welcoming. Walking back to the room, we were a little disturbed to see fire extinguishers removed from their holders and placed as an obstruction to the corridor fire doors. I removed these and placed them to one side, so as not to be an obstruction in case of emergency. We retired to our room and then to bed. Just before 2 am, we were woken by raised voices and shouting from the room next door, exacerbated by the interconnecting door to ours, it calmed but started again just after 2 am. I rang reception but no-one answered, so we both had to get dressed to go to reception to report the incident, as I wasn't leaving a lady on her own in such a situation. Leaving the room, we were greeted by an overwhelming smell of "****", again not conducive to a pleasant stay. As reception we met Youseff and reported our issues, we requested a room change, and although this was granted, we feel it was a little reluctantly done. On reporting the fire extinguisher situation, we were told, yes we are aware of it, if they were aware of it, why wasn't something actioned, as the fire extinguishers had not been removed to their correct positions by the following morning, this severely impacted on our sense of safety for the remainder of the stay. We returned to our room and were followed by Michael who was on patrol, on arriving at our room, he just put his ear to the door of the room next door and took no further action. After moving all our luggage, without assistance, we eventually got to sleep after 3am, impacting badly on our plans for the following day meaning that rather than watching the 6 nations in a sports bar we had to watch the final game in our room, itself disturbed by a child running up and down the corridor and woken by the same the next morning. Leaving the room in the morning, once again we were greeted by an overall stench of "****". My friend suffers with ME and Fibromyalgia, with an allergy to smoke, which increases her pain levels. There would seem to be a distinct acceptance of the **** situation by the staff, and that they are not prepared to do anything about it, just as they were aware of the fire extinguishers but chose to do nothing about it Not sure if the **** issue would be classed as being reportable to the authorities, but working in Health and Safety myself, I know I'll be raising an issue with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council regarding the fire extinguishers and public safety The hotel is now showing signs of ag
