St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery

The Shengweiji Cemetery is located on the West Cemetery Road in Macau, built in 1854. The difference between the Shengweiji Cemetery and other cemeteries is that it does not give people a gloomy feeling. The shape of the tomb here is different, very artistic, and the green environment is also very good, giving people a comfortable feeling. From the tombstone, Chinese and Portuguese couples families abound.

I feel that China's cemeteries are often solemn and depressing, but here is quiet and beautiful. Most of the people buried here are Portuguese who used to live in Macau. When passing by, they were attracted by the beautiful blue-green church. When they saw the sign outside, they knew that it was a cemetery. It was Ching Ming Festival and I went in and saw many Christian angels and crosses, as well as statues, which were exquisite and beautiful, and were placed on the memory of the dead and rich in artistic beauty. There are many flowers and trees in the garden. This season, there are many scattered petals on the tombstone. The passing of life seems to be less sad, but the color of the church becomes quiet and peaceful. The gothic style is very beautiful and dilutes the sad atmosphere. The people who slept here seemed to be just going to another heavenly feast. The churchkeepers were very enthusiastic, invited me to visit the church and watched me out. The St. Vinci chapel is a green chapel in the cemetery, and this bright color looks beautiful and somewhat surprising, because the fresh color is full of life. It is the traditional European-style church building, with a cloister outside and stained glass behind the statue. It is conceivable that the families of the previous burials here have held a ceremony to say goodbye to the deceased.

It is indeed a cemetery here. The venue is not large, but every tombstone is very distinctive. It is estimated that in the urban area, those who can be buried here are not ordinary people, they should be a big family. For tourists, the most interesting is the green chapel in the middle.

During the summer vacation, I secretly planned a trip to Macau cemeteries, not for curiosity, but because I found that these Western cemeteries in Macau (in fact, the vast majority of them have no new burial arrangements) are very architectural features, each with its own characteristics. In order to find this Saint-Weiji Cemetery (commonly known as the Old Western Cemetery, which is different from Wangxia Cemetery, Saint-Weiji is the name of an angel in Portuguese), I took a bus to get off at "Tashi Court" station. In fact, there are many European-style buildings near Tashi Square, such as libraries. Unfortunately, Ctrip does not have the strategy of Tashi Square, otherwise I can draw together. After getting off the bus, follow the map instructions (be sure to get a copy of the latest paper map of Macau at the gate, no mobile navigation is accurate), cross several road slopes, the outside wall is my favorite mint green, so even the cemetery, it is a little scarier and a little warmer. At present, there is only a small entrance halfway up the hill. Occasionally, gardeners will water the plants planted in it. As long as you walk quietly, don't take pictures, don't talk loudly and noisily, the gardenkeeper will not prevent outsiders from visiting. Out of respect for the deceased, there are no photographs in it, but I would like to say that serious reading of the epitaph will make a difference in thinking about life (although I am not a Christian).
