What travelers say:

Wolvesey Castle was named after a Saxon order, and the king ordered 300 wolf heads to be paid annually. The castle was broken in 1107 and completed more than 50 years later by the grandson of William the Conqueror. The Archbishop of Winchester lived here in the Middle Ages. Queen Mary I and her husband Philip had breakfast here when they were newly married. The castle is now open only from April to November.
