The room was very clean , it had everything in the room that was said to be, tv cable, coffee maker ECT.
We didn't eat breakfast maybe next time,
Staff at front desk was very kind and courteous ,even drew us a map were to find the room, all and all great place to stay
It was wonderful everything was wonderful. The building was amazing it has a pool, hot tub, sauna, blowing, pool table, dart games. And the roof top bar is beautiful. We went for a weekend getaway we had dinner here is was delicious and the whole staff were welcoming. Thank you all for a wonderful stay. It's a bit of pricey for me but so worth it.
Cleaning is too slow. I stayed for five days but never changed the bed sheets. They only collected the garbage every day and cleaned the bathroom and toilet once every three days. Everything else was good. The environment and settings were good.

GGuest UserWe booked this hotel on-line and I was beyond pleased with our room and the hotel. I called to get a room by end of hallway due to TKR surgery and service dog to go out. They made sure we had just what I needed. The room was exceptionally clean (and I was Head Housekeeper @ HIE so I like things clean and very maintained. The condition of hotel is great and very clean. Breakfast was delicious and we had a variety of things from waffles to hot food to cereal, fruit, etc. The pool was heated, which made for relaxing swims and the hot tub was nice and hot, like a hot tub should be. Trust me, we've stayed at so many that they're barely luke warm and it's not worth it. They take pride in the upkeep, cleanliness and care of the pool area as well as the hotel itself. We wanted to stay an extra night and the owner personally booked it and gave us a wonderful deal, and he even let me grab a bowl of cereal to take my meds with. The hotel is in a wonderful location with Hy-vee, Fareway, Dollar General, Walmart, Mc.D's, and other food places close by as well as gas stations. Lastly, I'd like to add that I was very happy with the safety of the hotel. Being in a safe place knowing that I don't have to worry about my vehicle or taking my dog out at night is one of my highest priorities. So, if you find yourself needing a place around the Des Moines area, go the little extra and stay in Grimes @ the Red Lion. You won't be disappointed!
AAnonymous UserThis room was $100 less per night than anything in Iowa City, where we had to be the next day. We were worried when we arrived, the area was desolate with the neighboring hotels and restaurants abandoned. The signage for this hotel was in shambles and the grounds were overgrown with weeds. BUT, the facility was very clean and service was good. Unlike most one-night stays, we had enough towels & coffee for two nights! The bed was comfortable, there was a nice easy chair and good desk chair in the room. The negatives were NO HOOKS in the bathroom - but I always have two over-the-door style in my luggage. Also, the water had an awful sulfer smell. Almost had to plug my nose in the shower and we used bottled water to brush our teeth. The window opened and had a good screen, which we like, but the seal was broken and hanging.
GGuest UserWe loved our stay. We were nervous because previous reviews said the furniture and carpets needed replacement. Not true! The ambiance they are going for is a rustic cabin or fishing lodge. As far as I could tell, just one chair in each room is „distressed“ meaning the chair was new but had been beat up to make it look old. The breakfast was very good. I‘ve never seen croissants at a hotel breakfast before. We especially appreciated that the rooms were truly clean-no stray hairs or flecks of junk to try to ignore. I thought the beds were perfect while my husband said they were a little too firm.
LLyle DobrowskiEvery thing was good but had a problem with paper coffee cups with the company name on it that leak and empty the coffee everywhere including myself . Then it happened again with the second one . So I complained to the desk and the manager said They had to use them because of their franchise contract and he knew about the problem. So that’s stupid. Hope the company reads this and corrects it The management should have taken action immediately. If I would have gotten burned this would be a different thing. Lawyers would be called and money would be paid. Fix the problem.

MMiss InformationThe snowstorms have started early in Iowa so I was extremely happy to walk into the warm hotel and check in. The desk clerk was friendly but not overly so. Check in was very quick and I was quickly on my way to a beautiful and blessedly warm room. Noise was a bit loud as wedding guests came in after 1am and I was near the elevators. Check out was seamless and breakfast at the hotel cafe was quick, friendly and tasty.
GGuest UserThe bathroom fan didn’t work so lord blessed us all when someone took a poo poo. The furnace wasn’t working my spouse was cold and we cranked that thing up to 75 to warm the room up but just didn’t warm up. I guess when you spend that kind of money for a room and they pride themselves on being a high end resort they would have stuff working. Prolly go someone where else next.
