It's located in a heritage building with interesting history and at an excellent location, right in the middle of the Victorian town and 5 mins drive to see the penguins. The rooms are newly refurbished tastefully decorated, it has a very nice teapot and a nice tea egg and some nice coffees and teas. It has an excellent breakfast with good choices of fruits, cereals..., it's the only hotel that offer us the breakfast in New Zealand!

Oamaru is lovely, and the supermarket is within walking distance. The penguin colony is a short drive away. The soundproofing is a bit weak, but you can cook, and the oven is great for roasting meat. Parking right outside is very convenient.

Very nice view that can see the lake and town centre at the opposite, friendly staff and the in-room dining was fabulous, I had Salmon & Cauliflower which is sooo good that I re-order on second day!

Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay. The room was comfortable and provided a pleasant environment to relax. The location was also excellent, with restaurants and various attractions conveniently nearby, making it easy to explore the area. Even though the hotel parking was full, the staff provided clear guidance and helpful instructions on alternative parking options nearby. Their assistance made the process smooth and hassle-free, which was greatly appreciated.

The front desk staff were great, and the service was excellent. The room design was also nice, but there were three very large flies in the room. The shower design was poorly thought out, with no separation between the wet and dry areas, so the entire bathroom was soaked after a shower.

Nice sized rooms , no air-conditioning but there was a fan supplied and windows could be easily open. Super friendly staff all very welcoming. and plenty of hot and cold options for the buffet breakfast

The hotel boasts elegant lake views, but I encountered a few issues: 1. **Location:** It's best to arrive by Uber as it's uphill and a bit of a walk to the bus stop. You'll need transportation to get around, as it's quite a distance from the city center. 2. **Room Issues:** My original room had a leaky ceiling and weak water pressure. The hotel offered an upgrade and complimentary breakfast for the next day, but I'm unsure how they would have handled it if I wasn't staying for two nights. 3. **Service Disappointment:** The resolution was communicated via email first, and the front desk staff didn't seem particularly apologetic the next day; it felt very procedural and uninspired. I'm left wondering what response I would have received had I not pushed for a solution, which was quite disappointing.

If you use Google Maps, remember to select the pedestrian path for directions. Otherwise, it may guide you to an abandoned house. The view from the dining room was nice, but we found some short blond hairs on the bed. We weren't too concerned about it, but others might be. The breakfast is quite Western—bread and jam, with milk or yogurt. It's a nice place, suitable for a short nap before takeoff. Nearby Saddle Hill is a great spot for viewing the Southern Lights if the timing is right. You could also ask John for local tips—he might know the best viewing spots. The unit was very spacious, well-maintained, and spotlessly clean upon arrival, which immediately made us feel comfortable and at ease. The layout was practical and suitable for both short and longer stays, with ample space to move around and relax. One of the biggest advantages was how easy the place was to locate. Clear directions and a convenient location made check-in smooth and stress-free, especially after a long journey. The surrounding area was also quiet and pleasant, allowing for a restful stay. Cleanliness was clearly a priority, from the rooms to the common areas, which we truly appreciated. Overall, this accommodation offers great comfort, convenience, and value. We would definitely recommend it to others and would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.

The motel's location is a bit out of the city center, so a car is essential for getting around. You can park right in front of your room. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need, including pots and pans. The male owner was very responsible. On our first night, the AC wasn't blowing hot air, and we woke up freezing at around 5 AM. We talked to the owner the next day, and he explained that the thermostat was set too high, preventing the AC from kicking in. He then restarted the outdoor unit and got it working. He even proactively knocked on our door to check if it was working correctly and brought us a small space heater. The owner also provided a small map, showing us places to visit in the city and how to get there.
