Breakfast was rich, including Cantonese options. On the day we left, we asked the front desk for a late check-out until 3 PM, and they agreed. Even though it's an older five-star hotel, it still maintains its quality. Very good. And it's convenient to get to the ancient city.

Eventually, they told us to wait for half an hour across the street with non-guests until the central corridor restaurant opened. When I went back to the hotel lobby to ask what was going on, a front desk attendant had a security guard escort me up to a table in the Chinese restaurant, where I had to share a table. The food wasn't great either – very salty. Lots of complaints, so I'd advise caution.

Plus, the evenings in Taiyuan are lovely and cool. We'll definitely choose this place again next time because everyone here feels like an old friend.

The location is also superb, within walking distance of the Ancient City, Parkson, and Xingmao Hui. While I might try other hotels next time, Yungang Jianguo Hotel has left a deep impression on me.
