The breakfast here is probably the best I've ever had! So many options and really hearty dishes, no wonder everyone who visits Shanxi needs a nap afterwards 💤. Service was good, though they weren't very flexible with upgrades this time. Also, the projection in the movie room wasn't working properly… The welcome fruit was just okay, didn't really fancy it. The first Starbucks coffee on the first day of my stay was a nice touch though – perfect for an early morning pick-me-up.

The hotel facilities are quite old, but its location is a big plus. I wasn't a fan of the large vanity mirror facing the double bed, and the air conditioning display stayed lit up all night. The power outlets also seemed a bit dated. It was clean, but there's a construction site downstairs. Luckily it rained, so there wasn't much dust, but it was quite noisy in the mornings. The overall environment is pretty average, which is to be expected for an older hotel. The breakfast selection was limited and the taste was just okay, though the knife-cut noodles were decent. I really need to vent about the restaurant. They advertised a separate entrance for hotel guests, but when I went down for dinner, it was packed. The staff managing the queue kept giving conflicting information, and the whole system was incredibly disorganized. Eventually, they told us to wait for half an hour across the street with non-guests until the central corridor restaurant opened. When I went back to the hotel lobby to ask what was going on, a front desk attendant had a security guard escort me up to a table in the Chinese restaurant, where I had to share a table. The food wasn't great either – very salty. Lots of complaints, so I'd advise caution.

I have to commend the experience of this stay, especially giving a big shout-out to the concierge team! Traveling with kids, waiting is always the biggest headache, but this time, from the moment we arrived, it was full of pleasant surprises. Front desk staff Aria was not only warm and professional but also had an amazing ability to observe—she immediately noticed the child with us and pulled out a lollipop to soothe them. Andy then kindly pointed out the location of the lobby parrot, successfully distracting the child and instantly easing the anxiety of waiting for our room. Even more thoughtful, Carl saw we had a lot of luggage and proactively came to help, smiling throughout. This made the tedious check-in process easy and pleasant. This feeling of being welcomed like family was very thoughtful, and we felt very comfortable. We immediately decided to stay two more days to fully enjoy our trip. Plus, the evenings in Taiyuan are lovely and cool. We'll definitely choose this place again next time because everyone here feels like an old friend.

This was my first time in Datong, and I have no regrets about my choice. As Datong's renowned five-star hotel, everything was perfect, except for the slightly outdated facilities and lack of smart technology. The service was exceptional, and the breakfast was plentiful. A pleasant surprise was the bathhouse on the fifth floor, which was great for unwinding after a long day. Fresh fruit was provided daily, and the mini-fridge had complimentary drinks. My two daughters absolutely loved the LOFT room type, and the soundproofing was excellent. The hotel's Chinese restaurant was also fantastic, with delicious food at reasonable prices – a great option for dinner when returning to the hotel feeling tired. The location is also superb, within walking distance of the Ancient City, Parkson, and Xingmao Hui. While I might try other hotels next time, Yungang Jianguo Hotel has left a deep impression on me. I would definitely recommend it to friends.

It has all the essentials and is very clean. The mattress was comfortable. Of course, it can't compare to high-end or luxury hotels. Its main advantage is its excellent location; it's very convenient for exploring, and you can easily pop back for a rest when you get tired. **Service:** The staff were very service-oriented. When we arrived, there weren't many guests, and the service was very attentive. **Breakfast:** It's not a buffet; it's a fixed-menu breakfast, like a 'nine-grid' style. It looks very appealing, and the taste is decent enough to fill you up. Overall, it's a good stay. Naturally, for this price point within the ancient city, you shouldn't compare it to hotels of the same price outside. It's incomparable, primarily due to its superb geographical advantage.

Located right next to the Confucius Temple, it's incredibly convenient for exploring the ancient city. The rooms have a traditional decor and are very warm. The hotel grounds are really spacious. We arrived late at night, but it was so easy because we'd messaged the hotel on WeChat beforehand to arrange a complimentary business shuttle pick-up from the high-speed rail station. Their service is excellent and proactive. Since it was the off-season, they even upgraded us to a larger room for free, which was fantastic value for money. With traditional kang beds, old-fashioned door locks, and a classic courtyard, it's perfect for guests who want to experience traditional culture.

If you're traveling to Linfen, Shanxi, I genuinely recommend Gu Cheng Da Yuan. It's not a hotel in the usual sense; it's more like staying in a living piece of history. The moment you push open the heavy wooden door, the city's hustle and bustle are shut out. It's a genuine old house, not some 'faux-ancient' style. 🛏️ The stay was more comfortable than I expected. The room was spacious, antique in style, but not at all dark. ✔ Underfloor heating + central air conditioning throughout, so no fear of the cold in winter. ✔ Turn on the projector and binge-watching shows in bed at night was incredibly satisfying 📽️. ✔ Welcome fruit, tea, coffee, cocktails 🍹, and afternoon tea 🫖 were all prepared. ✔ 24-hour butler service, always responsive. ✔ Takeout can be delivered directly to the room – super friendly for lazy people. 🥟 The attention to detail was a real bonus. On the Winter Solstice, I actually got to eat dumplings handmade by the hotel, and I suddenly felt 'cared for'. The breakfast menu changes daily, so you don't get tired of it. 💆♀️ This was a truly relaxing, 'lie-flat' vacation.
