Located in the Arabian Sea in the Indian Ocean, Maldives is a small country in South Asia. It is the most geographically dispersed sovereign states and the smallest Asian country. The Maldives has about 22 coral atolls comprising of 1200 islands and is divided into 20 administrative units. There are about 200 uninhabited islands, and rest are used for various other activities predominately tourism. It is considered as one of the wonders of the world for reef scientists owing to the biodiversity, reef formation and marine life.
