Outstanding
GGuest UserEnvironment: Great location, close to the high-speed train station, and they offer pick-up and drop-off services.
Service: The service was exceptional. Every evening, they provided a complimentary tremella soup and some snacks. They were also very enthusiastic about recommending local eateries.
The off-season in the Northwest is truly wonderful!
GGuest UserThe newly renovated room was incredibly stylish. The desk and partition were integrated seamlessly, and the sink, bathtub, and toilet were all separated, providing excellent privacy. I particularly loved the washbasin's unique material – water drops created a lovely chime. A room of this size in Japan could easily be two separate units! The mini-fridge was very handy for storing food, which was a lifesaver for our early 8:45 AM slot at the Mogao Grottoes Digital Center. The outer walls were 48 bricks thick, providing great earthquake resistance and insulation. They also had all the amenities, including a smoke escape mask, razor, and bath liner. The pick-up and drop-off service was an added bonus. The 9th-floor restaurant terrace offered fantastic views.
A special shout-out to Xiaodai, who arranged our airport pick-up. After booking our flights and hotel on Ctrip, I confirmed the pick-up with the hotel. On April 2nd, flying from Chengdu to Lanzhou, then Lanzhou to Dunhuang (with a stopover in Jiayuguan), our flight was delayed three times due to strong winds. Xiaodai kept in constant communication with me, even confirming again when we were pushed back and taxing in Jiayuguan. We finally arrived 4 hours late. The moment I turned on my phone after landing, I received a message from driver Mr. Wu, who picked us up smoothly and got us to the hotel. Following Xiaodai's advice, we left at 7:50 AM for the Mogao Grottoes Digital Center, making it to the 8:45 AM first show. We then successfully got tickets for our desired special grottoes and visited all the open areas of the Mogao Grottoes.
On April 4th, I went to the front desk to ask about the bus to the airport and happened to find Xiaodai on duty. She told me they could arrange a drop-off. When I gave her my room number, she recognized me from our earlier pick-up arrangements. My interactions with Xiaodai showed me the hotel's excellent service, with attention to every single detail. If 10 is the highest score, I'd give them a 12. Dunhuang is a place you'll want to visit more than once or twice.
GGuest UserTake the kids for a change of scenery! This B&B in Dunhuang is perfect for bringing kids. Any photo you take will turn it into a life-like portrait!
1. The rooms have a unique design, and I love the overall style. The bed in the family room is huge, and my two adults and two children slept very comfortably. The first-floor exterior view is beyond stunning, and any photo you take is a masterpiece. It feels so luxurious. The room is clean and well-lit. It's a perfect vacation for kids in Dunhuang!
2. I was initially worried about smells and other issues with the new renovations, but after arriving, I realized that this wasn't an issue at all. Full marks!
3. We arrived during dinner time, and unexpectedly, the B&B had food available. We ordered a few dishes, and they were surprisingly delicious. I recommend the fish and the big plate chicken—incredibly delicious!
4. The hotel's amenities, including amenities and appliances, are all very complete. They even have a capsule coffee machine. For someone like me who works in an office every day, daily coffee is a must! ☕️ This is truly a must-have! 💕
5. Staying here with children is hands-free; they can play in the pool and sandpit all day without leaving the house!
This stay was truly wonderful. I'll be back!

Very Good
GGuest UserOverall, I'm giving this hotel five stars, but it's not for everyone.
This place is for people seeking a slice of life...It promotes a slow pace and to really understand the hotels value you need to actually spend time there. Also looks really ideal of families - lots of area for kids to roam without getting into trouble.
If you just want a bed to crash in while spending most of your time outside, don't stay here.
Also if you want the most Instagrammable hotel around? Yes, book it.
Pros:
Amazing view, super peaceful. The layout feels like a camp you walk out and you're right in the common area, easy to relax. I came back late one night and heard absolutely nothing for a long time.
Service is genuinely 5-star; they really care about your experience. Some previous reviews mentioned they staff attitude is bad - I confirm this is either fixed or incorrect. Maybe I don't expect people to pamper me 24/7. There are plenty of staff and if you chat to them or make a request they will 100% help.
Rooms are cleaned well.
Some previous reviews said the aircon was bad, but mine worked great, and hot water never ran out, temperature is easy to control. Also, people said no food delivery - wrong. I got delivery even during a sandstorm, no issues.
Taxis and Didi come to the hotel fine, about 12 kuai from the center.
Cons:
The bathroom is extremely small. If you're over 177cm / 73kg or have a broad build, I can't recommend you stay here.
I kept bumping into walls, and the shower curtain stuck to my skin mid-shower – my biggest letdown.
The room gets hot, stuffy, and smelly if you turn the aircon off during summer days. I made that mistake once. I'd suggest the hotel install sensors to manage temperature or air out rooms when guests are out.
Breakfast is simple – looks and tastes fine, but gets repetitive and you can't choose from a menu.

Excellent
VValarie474The Trip.com listing name does not match the actual hotel name, which created confusion on arrival and with food delivery throughout the stay. The taxi dropped me at the building but the ground floor is a restaurant, with no clear hotel entrance. I messaged the hotel on WeChat asking for directions. They replied that someone would come out to meet me. I waited fifteen minutes with no one arriving and no further response, despite repeated follow-up messages, before they finally sent written directions, which is what I had asked for in the first place.
The room did not match the listing photos. It was significantly smaller than advertised, with barely enough space to open a suitcase. The window did not close completely, letting in constant street noise from buses and traffic. The walls are extremely thin. Neighbor noise and door slamming were audible at all hours, and passing buses caused the room to vibrate. I had requested a quiet room.
Front desk communication was inconsistent. Staff do not speak English, which WeChat is meant to bridge. When a food delivery was not loaded into the delivery robot, I messaged the front desk and waited fifteen minutes with no action. I went down and found the food sitting behind the reception counter while two staff members chatted nearby.
Sustainability is not a consideration. Every item, including towels and the robe, is individually plastic-wrapped.
Positives:
Comfortable bed
Strong, consistent hot water in the shower
AC functioned well
Generous in-room amenities (water, coffee, tea, slippers, scale), replenished daily
Housekeeping staff were friendly and professional
A 90-minute late checkout was granted without issue
The room size, noise levels, and service gaps prevented this from being a comfortable stay.
AAnonymous UserDunhuang Zhongzhou Hotel truly makes you feel at home. From the moment we arrived, the staff pulled open the doors to welcome us in and took charge of our luggage, then offered each of us a cup of tea. After check-in, they escorted us to our room, where we found drinks and yogurt waiting as a welcome gesture.
In addition to breakfast, the hotel serves complimentary vegetarian lamian (hand-pulled noodles) as an afternoon snack and offers free late-night snacks for guests. Every time we left the dining area, the staff would walk us to the elevator, bow, and bid us farewell—attentive and courteous in every way, making us feel genuinely valued.
Whenever we waited in the lobby for our hired car, staff would spontaneously bring us a cup of tea. Upon check-out, they helped carry our luggage to the vehicle—this is clearly one of their strong suits, and it deserves praise.
We had originally booked a standard twin room, but were upgraded at no extra charge to a triple room—exceptionally spacious, clean, and comfortable. This hotel absolutely deserves a perfect score for its service.
GGuest UserOn a self-driving tour, I decided to stay here last minute and was pleasantly surprised! As soon as I turned into the parking lot, a staff member came over to guide me. They helped with my luggage every step of the way, and everyone I encountered greeted me proactively. The front desk gave me a sand protection neck gaiter and a voucher for congee in the evening. In the room, there were welcome snacks, yogurt, and plenty of water. They also provided free chargers and a humidifier. There's even a foot bath at the self-service laundry room, with disposable bath bags for hygiene. The breakfast was absolutely amazing, definitely 4-star+! So many varieties, better than many 4.7+ hotels in the city. They also offer shuttle service. I'll definitely be back!
AAnonymous UserThere were a lot of people in the hotel lobby on the night of check-in. The front desk said that they had received a study tour group of 500 people, which delayed the check-in time. To express their apology, the front desk gave me some souvenirs and promised to take me to the night market in the evening. They were really sincere and I could see that the service awareness came from the heart and was not forced through training.
GGuest UserThis was one of the most comfortable stays I've ever had! The front desk staff were incredibly attentive, and the lady who checked me in was so kind and gentle. The room was spotless and tidy, and all the facilities were smart-enabled. The surrounding area has excellent amenities, making dining very convenient. The breakfast at this hotel is absolutely fantastic – a perfect blend of Western and Chinese options. They have wonderful staff, delicious food, and even tiny wontons for the little ones! I'll definitely be staying here again on my next trip.
GGuest UserI chose this hotel for my trip, and the room was thoughtfully furnished. The twin beds were very spacious, and two adults could comfortably stay in one room. The bedding was clean, pure white, soft and gentle on the skin, and provided just the right amount of support. After a long day of business travel, I could fall asleep immediately. The upholstered headboard was a thoughtful touch, preventing discomfort when using my phone at night. The placement of power outlets and switches was also very convenient, making charging and controlling the lights easy. The hotel's attention to detail was evident; the throw pillows and bed runner were stylishly coordinated, not the generic hotel furnishings, but rather a comfortable and inviting touch. There was also a lounge chair by the window, perfect for relaxing in the afternoon sun or enjoying a cup of tea. Cleanliness was impeccable. The sheets and duvet covers were spotless and odorless, the floors and surfaces were impeccably clean, and the bathroom was spotless and tidy, giving me peace of mind. The staff were also very attentive, checking me in quickly and patiently answering any questions. Overall, the service was excellent, making me feel very comfortable.
It's very close to the museum and Crescent Lake, making it very convenient to get around and providing a great experience. Whether you're traveling for business or leisure, I highly recommend choosing this place!
