Studio room type with 2 queen beds. Self-service hotel. Collect your own key from the locker, PIN information, etc. via WhatsApp. The place is still new. Renovations are still underway in the units on the left and right of the room. The location is close to Island Hospital (by walking 15 minutes). Cold AC. Good bed. Smooth shower water.
A big thumbs up to G Hotel Kelawai for their excellent service and thoughtful coordination! From the very day of booking, the reservation team impressed us with their prompt responses and attention to detail. A special thanks to Ms Thurga from Reservations, who ensured that every arrangement for my wife’s surprise birthday was perfectly taken care of. Her immediate follow-ups and genuine care made the planning process seamless.
We were also pleasantly surprised with a spacious room and a stunning city view, which made the celebration even more special. Truly a memorable stay — thank you to the team for making it so wonderful.
The hotel is great, staff are impeccable in their attentiveness to the guest. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was absolutely outstanding, with an abundance of choices catered to satisfy every taste. The pool and gym are also fantastic, with the added convenience of being open 24/7, to put in an early morning workout. Spacious and very well equipped and maintained.
However, our stay was not without faults and there are definitely some things management needs to address:
- the noise from the elevator automatic announcements is absurd! the ”doors opening/closing” alerts are constant and audible from neighboring floors as well as your own.If you stay in a room numbered xx15 or xx16, be advised you will not have a pleasant time - we asked to change rooms immediately as soon as we realized this.
- elevators can be SLOW, magma slow. it can take a long time to move around if you are staying in a higher floor. We stayed for 2 nights and during that period 2 separate elevators were down for maintenance. It took us a total of 15 minutes to move from one floor to the other, after getting our room changed (for reasons stated above) and new keycards.
- the level from street noise audible in the room is just inadmissible at a supposed 5-star hotel level, at least in the rooms facing the main road. These rooms have, inexplicably, a single pane of glass and very tall windows, which makes soundproofing pretty much nonexistent - mat rempit bikes racing in the dead of night, the call to prayer blasting from the loudspeakers of the mosque nearby before 6am, drilling from the construction site nearby, and other nuisances that definitely disturbed my sleep.
Ascott Gurney Penang is a fantastic place to stay. The rooms are clean and very comfortable, the staff are friendly, and the facilities are well-maintained. The breakfast is good and the location is super convenient — near malls, restaurants, and the seafront. Really enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back!
This is a new hotel, so everything is new, clean and comfortable. A surprising huge room, almost a suite for the price paid. Luxurious feel especially the tapas bar at lobby Lvl 6 with live band and fantastic night sky view but rather expensive. Breakfast was just ok with not too much varieties. Swimming pool great with unique in-water sunbed. No sauna/steam room. No cafe at lobby. Overall check-in/check-out speed is fast but luggage concierge keeping and retrieval is too slow, especially if u're rushing for time, do plan ahead!
Location slightly further away from Komtar area but still within walking distance.
Room is spacious, can open at least 4 luggages. Bed and pillow are comfy, too bad there is only 1 type of pillow.
Was told by front desk they will ask bell boy to send the luggage to our room during check in but still nothing after 1 hour. Room is a bit too dark, there was dust on the tissue box. Bath robe & bathroom tiles have stinks.
Front desk was disappointing. Didn’t explain anything about hotel service/ facilities. Previously stayed at Park Royal where staff also said nothing but at least there’s a whole manual I can read in the room. Asked front desk at night how much for a late check out but he didn’t know and told us to call in the morning. Also asked us for the luggage tag when we retrieved our luggage but they didn’t give us in the first place. Front desk doesn’t feel welcoming.
Room is spacious but a bit dark even turning on all the nights. Love that there’s YouTube on the TV. There’s a slight moldy smell so had to turn the air-con very cold. Would be great if it there could be foam pillows which are better for necks.
Location is ok, a few mins walk to Campbell street. Grab to various places mostly cost around USD$3, around USD$8 to airport. General experience is ok but I expect more from a 5 star hotel.
The room was very clean, feeling like it just opened recently, but there was no strange smell. Overall, it was pretty good, except for the check-in which took until 3 PM. However, the spa was a bit mediocre; perhaps the staff training hadn't been completed since it just opened, so the service was a bit lacking.
This hotel has a charming Nanyang (Southeast Asian) flair. It's very close to the beach, just a short walk away, and also conveniently located near the bus stop. Mural Street and the Blue Mansion are both about a 15-minute walk from here. The hotel has staff who speak Chinese, the rooms are very clean, and the breakfast is excellent – truly nice!
A very enjoyable experience with some of the best decor of any boutique hotel, not just in Asia. The staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasant and make us feel special. The hotel lacks decent gym facilities and the pool needs a mid-height front privacy wall to separate it from the street, but otherwise, it is fabulous. The food is good to very good and the international wine list is broad and well balanced in price and variety. And, the first drink on the house each evening helps settle you in for the evening after a hard day's trekking around Georgetown.
Much to be liked. Recommended vs any cookie-cutter hotel for the same price.
The hotel looks a little old, but everything is really well maintained and clean. The facilities are great, especially the gym. It’s fully equipped with dumbbells, barbells and all kinds of machines for different workouts. There’s also a sauna, steam room and hot and cold jacuzzis, all in good working condition.
The location is perfect, right along Gurney Drive. Get a sea view room if you can because the view is amazing whether it’s sunrise or sunset. It’s also super convenient with Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon just a short walk away, and plenty of food options nearby. Taking a Grab to town takes only about 10 minutes.
Breakfast was really good too. There’s a wide mix of local and international dishes that change daily, plus an egg and roti canai station where you can order fresh.
Service was okay, though the staff weren’t as warm as I expected from a five star hotel. Overall, it was a comfortable stay in a great location with solid facilities and food.

SsnowcatThe E&O Hotel was definitely the highlight of my trip to Malaysia! Highly recommended! This 140-year-old heritage hotel is one of the world's three grand old hotels. Its architecture boasts strong British colonial characteristics, and the interiors are incredibly luxurious, adorned with numerous antique furnishings and artworks. Many world-renowned figures have stayed here. Every corner offers a picturesque photo opportunity, no filters needed! I recommend staying in the Legacy Wing to enjoy more exclusive hotel perks, such as the benefits listed in the last picture that we enjoyed during our three-day stay (the hotel even complimentary a bottle of nice red wine!).
Exploring the hotel itself each day was a delight, saving us from having to venture out in the scorching sun to find attractions. Three days wasn't nearly enough. The staff were all wonderful, and the hotel guests included many elderly Caucasian tourists from Europe and America, as well as many Chinese travelers like us, visiting during Golden Week. The staff were always smiling and treated everyone equally, regardless of their nationality. The breakfast selection was extensive; we tried breakfast at three different restaurants, each with its own unique charm, accompanied by beautiful scenery and antique furniture – very satisfying! 👍 The hotel has two pools: one on the ground floor by the sea, and another infinity pool on the 6th floor. Both are stunning. There were often many Chinese women taking photos by the pool, but not actually swimming, which left me plenty of space. I even learned how to breaststroke in just three days, haha!
The hotel is located in George Town, surrounded by the old colonial buildings of the old quarter, which are definitely worth seeing. Nearby attractions include the Pinang Peranakan Mansion (also known as the Nyonya Museum) and the Clan Jetties. If you're going to Penang, you absolutely must stay at this hotel!
HHongBaoWe have stayed in this hotel for 3 times in 4 years. The hotel hospitality and service make us feel like home-coming everytime. Special shoutout to Michelle from the front desk for her complimentary upgrade given for our birthday and anniversary celebration. Lastly thanks to Rubel from the housekeeping team for always checking on us if we need any turn down service. Never regret to choose this hotel as our preferred stay place whenever we come to Penang.
JJN768The PARKROYAL Penang Resort is highly rated, especially as a family-friendly, beachfront destination in Batu Ferringhi, praised for its excellent service and direct access to the beach. Guests consistently highlight the resort's great pool areas—including the Amazonia Splash water park—and the diverse, delicious breakfast offerings. While some older rooms might show minor wear or have noisy A/C units, the location is excellent, placing guests within walking distance of the famous Batu Feringghi Night Market.
HHoliday_Really recommend this hotel! We decided to stay an extra night because the service was so good. Our car broke down and we couldn’t drive, but the hotel staff were so friendly and even helped us push the car out. The environment is nice, the staff are helpful, the room is clean, and there’s 24-hour Inroom dining. It’s also conveniently located near the train station. Definitely will come back again!
EEjannnMy overall experience at this hotel was very positive. The check-in process was efficient, and the front desk staff were polite and welcoming. The room was modern, clean, and equipped with all essential amenities. Housekeeping did an excellent job.
The hotel’s facilities such as the gym and pool were well-maintained. Breakfast buffet offered a good selection and was constantly replenished. The location is strategic

MM500456****Traveling with a friend, the hotel was beautiful and clean. We stumbled upon a small wedding, which was quite romantic. The breakfast was quite rich, and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of cheeses available. Adding an extra person cost ¥120. If I hadn't been in such a rush, I would have loved to stay a few more days to really chill out.
