It's a historical hotel with a long history. You can feel the traditions of Japan. They provide great service. Even though you it's a super old hotel, but it's very clean and tidy inside. They have done the renovation so you don't feel that old. That means you can feel the history but super clean and tidy.

Staying at Shoho in Matsumoto was an unforgettable experience that truly deserves five stars. Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Nagano Prefecture, this hotel seamlessly blends traditional Japanese elegance with modern luxury. From the moment we stepped into the lobby, we were enveloped by a warm and inviting ambiance that set the tone for the rest of our stay. Our room was a perfect sanctuary—spacious, meticulously clean, and adorned with subtle touches of Japanese artistry. The panoramic views of the Japanese Alps from our window were nothing short of breathtaking, especially when the mountains were bathed in the soft glow of sunrise. The traditional tatami flooring and comfortable futon bedding provided an authentic experience without sacrificing comfort. One of the standout features of Shoho is its exceptional onsen facilities. Soaking in the natural hot springs while gazing at the picturesque scenery was incredibly rejuvenating. The rotenburo (outdoor bath) offered a tranquil escape where the stresses of daily life simply melted away. The hotel's attention to detail extended to these spaces, with beautifully crafted woodwork and stone elements enhancing the overall atmosphere. Culinary delights awaited us at every meal. The kaiseki dinner was a masterpiece—a multi-course feast that highlighted seasonal and local ingredients. Each dish was artfully presented and demonstrated a profound respect for Japanese culinary traditions. The breakfast buffet was equally impressive, offering a wide array of both Japanese and Western options to suit all palates. The staff at Shoho went above and beyond to ensure our stay was exceptional. Their genuine hospitality was evident in every interaction, from assisting with our luggage to offering insightful recommendations on local attractions. Despite any language barriers, their kindness and professionalism shone through. The hotel's location is ideal for exploring the rich cultural heritage of Matsumoto. We were just a short drive from the iconic Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan's most beautiful original castles. Strolling through the historic Nakamachi Street with its classic white-walled storehouses turned boutique shops and cafes was a delightful way to spend an afternoon. In addition to its proximity to cultural sites, Shoho serves as a great base for nature enthusiasts. The nearby Kamikochi Valley offers stunning hiking trails that showcase the unspoiled beauty of the Japanese Alps. Returning to the comfort of the hotel after a day of exploration was something we looked forward to, especially knowing a soothing onsen soak awaited us. In summary, Shoho encapsulates the essence of Japanese hospitality. Every aspect of our stay was thoughtfully curated to provide comfort, relaxation, and cultural enrichment. We left feeling deeply refreshed and with a greater appreciation for the wonders of Matsumoto. Shoho is more than just a place to stay—it's an experience that lingers long after you've departed. It is a pleasure to stay at this hotel because of its cleanliness and the services it provides. Despite the fact that the property is old and needs some renovation, I am still happy to leave a very good review. The hotel provides a free shuttle service to Matsumoto station. Additionally, it offers complimentary onsen access at another hotel, with shuttle bus service included. Hotel guests should make full use of these. Reminder: To ensure your seat at the onsen, please make the reservation by 9am every day. I will stay at this hotel again when I visit Matsumoto next time.

Matsumoto served as a convenient one-night stopover on my way to Kamikochi. Ever since my first stay at a Nono hotel in Tottori, I've been completely hooked. Now, whenever I visit a city with a Nono property, it's always my top choice. Nono positions itself as a city onsen hotel, aiming to provide an authentic hot spring ryokan experience right in the heart of the city. Guests are requested to remove their shoes upon entry, and the entire hotel features traditional tatami flooring. The top floor boasts both indoor and open-air hot spring baths, perfect for soaking away the day's fatigue. To top it off, complimentary ice cream is available after your bath! From 9:00 PM to 10:30 PM, they offer complimentary ramen. The soy sauce ramen, though simple, is exceptionally tasty. Guests can also help themselves to complimentary soft drinks. Nono's breakfast spread is also very impressive. During my stay, they even had all-you-can-eat melon, which was an absolute treat! The room size was perfectly adequate; we had enough space to comfortably open two 28-inch suitcases.

Very satisfied. I booked one night at first and then added another night. The breakfast did not change much. The overall experience was very good. I recommend it to friends who come to Matsumoto. The room is connected to spring water.

The location is actually not good. However, there are restaurants nearby, the neighborhood is quiet, and the scenery is nice, which offsets the bad location.

The room and bathroom was clean and nice. We were driving but there were ample parking lots. We got the free welcome drinks, free ice cream, free chazuke and free morning coffee during our stay. We were able to see sunset from our room too. The public bath was clean too with all amenities provided, even with massage chairs. Totally enjoy our stay, the receptionist spoke good english too. very recommended.

Super close to the JR station, only a short walk. We booked two rooms (unspecified types), and they kindly allocated two adjacent rooms for our party. Our luggage was even delivered to our rooms early.
