"I stayed at the Kimpton for four nights at a terrible time in my life. My family member had been care flighted to Baptist burn unit due to a work accident. I was a hot mess. The gentleman that checked me in was so kind. I called him exhausted and lost and he got me to the valet. He noticed me grabbing some water from the water station and offered me four bottles of water for my room. In addition, the valet staff knew why I was there and sent up a bottle of wine and a nice note for Mother’s Day. Typically, I stay at the Four Seasons or Ritz Carleton but the service I received here was absolutely on par with those hotels. Thank you for helping me get thru such a difficult time."
"The property now seems to be lacking a sense of direction. Service is not what it used to be. The temperature in the common areas is too hot. Housekeeping is noisy. Early morning, you are awaken by the pungent smell of food / cooking permeating the corridors, or perhaps, the ventilation system. The water pressure in the shower is below par. Some of the desk staff appears to be confused Service on the patio is very good, however at the restaurant is a hit and miss. Servers are overworked. The patio is worth a visit. The property has lost the personal touch that used to distinguish it from others. The only real 4 stars property in town. It needs competition and perhaps a wake up call."
"Great location, beautiful renovated building Reynolds’s former headquarters with valet parking They had morning papers snd free coffee gratis snd very helpful young people working. Who were very helpful. Their restaurant produced some excellent meals. Snd the security was well conceived. Snd effective. We stayed three nights which was a package on our trip from florida to nyc Great downtown location to all stores and highways"

"I was unable to stay in my over $250 room due to bed bug infestation, which we discovered at 1:30 am when we returned to our room. Bed bugs in the bathroom, along the bed frame, on the desk, in my friend’s bag, in the suite kitchen. I have geotagged photos of the bed bugs. The hotel was fully booked so we knew we would have to find another hotel since we would not stay in an unsanitary, bed bug infested room. We requested a refund at the front desk. The attendant refused the refund, refused to help, refused to give any documentation of my complaint, refused to have anyone check the room or check it himself. He said that reimbursement would have to come through Priceline where I had booked the room. He said I could speak to the manager in the morning (“Brandy”). I requested a form or a way to officially document the issue so that I could share that with Priceline. I had a feeling that the hotel would not reimburse me. The attendant suddenly interrupted me, became aggressive with me, raised his voice, then began yelling and threatened to call police if we did not leave immediately. He continued yelling at me so we left because we felt intimidated. He was not wearing any uniform or name tag. After 3 days of me trying to reach management and Priceline, with multiple desk attendants saying managers were not on the premises, the GM Scott returned my call and said Orkin had inspected the room and found no bed bugs. He refused reimbursement. I am not surprised that after 3 days of the hotel being able to clean the room that Orkin did not find much. Why would I, a customer who just wanted a peaceful night’s sleep and who had already pre-paid the room, lie about bed bugs? We were unable to use the room. We had to drive to Durham and pay for another room. I also noticed that my card was charged twice - once through Priceline and once from Residence Inn. This is fraud. I simply requested full reimbursement for this room which I was unable to stay in due to unsanitary conditions and reached no hotel employees or managers who were sympathetic, apologetic, or in any way helpful."
"The Residence Inn is in a great location in Winston-Salem. It is in a busy traffic area but every store, restaurant, etc. you might need is within a couple of miles. This is a newer hotel, more modern and the rooms are very big with kitchenette, living area and bed area.....even had room to leave the needed ironing board up. Very nice to be able to spread out. Parking is free. Staff are very professional and helpful. Since travel is different these days, you need to check to see if the amenities you need are open."
"Check in was very friendly and helpful. The room was quite large, especially for just one night. Bathroom was spacious and a very large work area in the living space. It was perfect for our needs. Comfortable bed as well and good location. Lots of parking a plus."

"Three of us traveling for a week arrived at the Marriott on a Friday afternoon, choosing valet parking. No luggage cart available. The valet was indifferent, the front desk indifferent. Just a shrug, we’re on our own. No one offered to help with luggage. We made several trips, my daughter guarding the luggage downstairs while my wife and I carried suitcases and bags and supplies to the rooms. The person who checked me in was very good. I had called the hotel in advance to insure it was pet friendly. I asked about a pet relief area outside the hotel and was told there was a grassy area. It was not grass. It was ****s, bushes, “smoker’s poles,” cigarette butts, trash cans, trash on the ground, food scraps and benches. Hardly a suitable area for pet relief. We had a spill on the comforter in the room. Called “at your service” to request housekeeping bring us a new one. When we came back to the room an hour later, the soiled comforter was still on the floor where we left it and on the “couch” was an assortment of sheets and blankets, no comforter. I went to the Butcher and Bull restaurant in the hotel, saw the “please wait to be seated” sign, dutifully waited at the hostess stand for five minutes. No hostess. Made eye contact with one bartender, he didn’t offer to help. Asked the other bartender about a hostess and she rolled her eyes and said there wasn’t one. Ultimately, we sat at the bar and she waited on us, doing a great job. For a steakhouse, not much depth to the menu. Next morning went to the concierge lounge for breakfast. One piece of bacon left, ran out of coffee. One lady resupplying but I’m sure doing all the cooking as well. Too much for one person. My wife took our small dog to the pet relief area at 7:30a on Saturday morning. See attached photos. The table and chairs were littered with food remnants. There was vomit on the curb. When we left at 10a, it was in same condition. No one bothering to clean it up. I stay in Marriotts a lot, for many years. I think they are the best hotel chain and they’ve given me lifetime Titanium status. I have to blame the management for this poor service. Instead of staying at a Fairfield or Courtyard Marriott, I thought it would be nice to stay in the premium brand. There was nothing premium about this Marriott and I’m sure the service at a Fairfield Inn would be better. Note – early in the trip we stayed at Marriott’s Siena Hotel in Chapel Hill, NC. Service was professional and outstanding. When I checked in, I asked about a luggage cart. The person who checked me in went into a room and brought me one. Quite the other end of the service spectrum compared to the Winston-Salem Marriott. Had I known, we certainly would have stayed in a Marriott property elsewhere."
"On a recent stay in Winston-Salem, I had the pleasure to stay at the Marriott Winston-Salem. The staff was so professional and did everything possible to make the stay enjoyable. They all exceeded my expectations to make the stay as stress-free and quite enjoyable. The room was clean and comfortable and very spacious. I had so much room to work and be able to separate for downtime. With every request the Marriott team jumped into action to ensure my visit was perfect. Great job everyone."

"The Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. 3 out of the 5 days I was the there the elevator wasn't working and I had to take the service elevator or walk up and down 5 flights of stairs. The stairs weren't cleaned well, and as a women traveling alone didn't feel all that safe! The hotel is under construction and the staff try's really hard to accommodate your needs. The breakfast (cold) was not what I was anticipating when booking the room and paying an extra $9.00, I only got breakfast one morning. Now that I know what to expect when staying there, I would probably go ahead and stay just because the staff was very friendly and its a block from my Office meeting, but I wouldn't pay extra for breakfast. The suites are very nice and roomy, so its easy to get work done."
"We stayed overnight with our grabddaughter on our way to the beach. We found the accommodations satisfactory, the evening reception above many other places, staff worked very hard to accommodate breakfast needs, the grits were PHENOMENAL. And dinner dining in Winston-Salem was easy to get to from the hotel. We would definitely stay again."
"I've stayed at this hotel several times in the past, so I knew going in that the rooms were run down, but my major grip this time around is how poorly it is managed. I believe there was recently a management change at the hotel. Major gripes: 1) Check-in: There was a line of about 5-6 of us on a Sunday night checking in. The front desk person was on her phone on speakerphone while checking us in (how is this possible at a hilton branded hotel?). She was also poorly trained and she did not seem to know how to use the system. 2) Room: When I got into my room, the room was not cleaned or made, the bedding was all off the floor on the ground. I went down and got a replacement room, which seemed to be clean, but there were clothes still in the drawer and queen sheets were put on a king bed. Rooms are worn down with things breaking apart but I had those expectations going in. 3) Breakfast: On a couple of the days, there was no omlette chef. A line would form but no one from the hotel would came to advise of status. Last day we were there, there was no coffee. How does a hotel run out of coffee? 4) Happy Hour: On two of the nights, there was no happy hour because of shortage of staff. We only found out after waiting awhile by asking the front desk. Why not put out some type of sign or offer the customers something else. Overall, it was evident that the hotel is being poorly managed. While staff in general were friendly, there was definitely a lack of staff and evidently a lack of experienced staff."

"I'm a Hilton rewards member, so I keep hoping my status counts for something because this is one of those trips where I wonder if I should be spending my money at Marriott. The room was 429 with a king size bed and a jet tub and a good value for the price. But the towel bar was falling out of the wall, the tv remote was missing, the toilet was filling too slowly and there was a musty, smokey smell in the room. The smell was obvious when we laid down to sleep, not so obvious during the day, but someone had definitely been smoking in that room. Other than that, a good stay with the usual Hampton inn amenities. Really wish they could pay attention to the obvious issues, like repairs and the smell. Another suggestion: please give us real glasses in a room where there's a fridge, a wet bar and a larger lounging area. We're adults, do you really think we're satisfied with paper cups wrapped in plastic? Don't get so cheap on a $200 room, please. "
"Sadly this property did not measure up to the normal Hampton standard. It needs some extra attention. Hallway smelled like stale air and a faint odor of stale smoke. I wipe down door handles and such when I first get to a room. The bathroom door handle had black stuff on backside of the handle. I couldn’t get it cleaned off so I decided to just leave the door ajar so I wouldn’t touch it. Bathroom had signs of mold. Not horrible but not what I expected to see. I checked in online and used digital key. I walked through the front lobby three times. Two employees were at the front desk with no customers. Not only did they not speak they didn’t even look up. Again not what I expected at a Hampton. If you do stay here, make sure your room is an even number. Odd number rooms face the highway."
"The breakfast was incredible. Ms Pat was preparing the breakfast. She served everything. We had the healthy choices from fruit, oatmeal with plenty of toppings. Plenty of muffins, breads, yogurts, waffles, to scrambled eggs with cheese and plenty of meats. They also served bagel toppers You can’t ask for more. Ms Pat was so friendly and made sure everyone was happy with her breakfast. The hotel is very near Hanes Mall."

The historic charm of this establishment abounds. The Inn is absolutely stunning; the parking was sufficient for the area (which was surprising), it is conveniently located to some great restaurants, the rooms are very spacious, clean, warm and comfortable (the faux fireplace was a great touch...loved it), the staff is personable, professional and go above and beyond to assist and the conference room areas are spacious, great lighting and the lunches prepared were delicious. I fell in love with the afternoon offerings of wine and cheese or the cookies...yummy. The breakfast options offered were more than sufficient and the food was delicious. The pricing was also great for everything that they offer. If you get the opportunity, do not hesitate....stay at this establishment. You will not regret it!

I decided to stay in this property (again) after I made a last minute decision to travel and visit the area (my mistake). This time, I made my booking less than 3 weeks prior to my trip. I tried finding other hotel/Inn/motel accommodation in a wider area but it seemed fairly impossible to find one during that busy/peak period. When I arrived in the hotel in the afternoon, check-in was quite prompt. I got my room key and went straight to the room (either room # 133 or 135; sorry I totally forgot). Once I stepped into the room, I immediately noticed that this particular room was in a worse state of condition compare to the one I got during my first stay back in April 2016. I called the front desk and requested for room change. However, I instantly got a firm answer that the property was fully booked for the next several days. Well, there was nothing I could do about this but I managed to survive during my 3 nights' stay in this property (Oct. 18~21, 2019) without any issue at all. This property is located a busy road and conveniently located. Next door, we can find Long John Silver's while chinese restaurant in the other side of the hotel has been closed down and replaced by an arcade (if I was not mistaken). What made this property convenient was simply because the complimentary shuttle bus from the exhibition centre stopped by right in front of the property so that I didn't need to rent a car during my 3 nights' stay. Although this stay was not giving a better experience compare to the one in my 1st stay 3 years earlier, I still hope the owner was willing to pour some investment and started renovating the property. I personally would watch this property carefully but for now, if they did nothing to it then it would certainly be my final stay. For this reason, I give them a 2 stars' rating and I would not really recommend this property to everyone who is looking for quality accommodation during their future trips in the area.

I needed a place close to the hospital and my daughters college for her surgery. Hawthorne was the closest to both, almost within walking distance to both. I reserved our room for our stay in advance, in which I received an early bird discount. We also received another discount since we were there for the main purpose of the hospital. Due to other circumstances, the day before we were to check in, I needed to check in a day early. They were very understanding and accommodating and still gave me the same rate. The day of her surgery, we realized that our room was not going to be as accessible as we thought, so we needed to change rooms. Again, Hawthorne was very understanding and accommodating and moved us into a more comfortable room for her with no questions asked. On day of check out, we needed a late check out due to having to wait on our transportation, and again, very understanding and accommodating, no questions asked. The entire staff from Check In all the way to Maintenance were AMAZING! They went above and beyond to meet our needs, help us with my daughter and her wheelchair, and made us feel so welcome. The room was spacious, extremely clean (the entire facility was immaculate), and the beds were very comfortable. The pool area was beautiful, although closed for the season. Due to Covid, they did not have the Continental Breakfast as listed on their website, but did have a "Grab and Go" bag with coffee and afternoon tea in the lobby area.

This hotel has a lot going for it. It's an attractive building in a nice setting, well located next to top restaurants and Hanes Mall. The rooms are well appointed, and the price was reasonable for the area. But that's not enough to overcome a woefully inadequate breakfast, numerous maintenance issues, funky room smells and stained carpet, dogs that barked all night, and frequently unusable WiFi. The "breakfast" was nothing but muffins and instant oatmeal/grits (no bread, no bagels, no cereal, no boiled eggs, no toaster, no hot items). Our bathroom sink didn't drain, double doors on the bathroom and refrigerator wouldn't close correctly, the room smelled, and the A/C buzzed constantly. And management did nothing about a barking/crying dog left abandoned in a room most of the night (until >4am), even though they were notified by 9pm that a dog was left in the room.

The room itself did the job, and had a stove top, which is hard to find in other hotels (especially at this price point). However, at night, the place seemed dangerous. Lots of loud fights and shady individuals were there. Police showed up on a couple of occasions during my (less than a month) stay. I had to try several different rooms before finally getting settled because there were major problems with the first options : lamps broken, AC broken, etc. What was strange about that was that after getting the key, looking at the room, and returning to the front desk, the people at the desk knew about the problems. "Yeah, I know the lamp's broken". Bear in mind there is no overhead in the living area, just some lamps, so that's a big deal. The police seemed in need of maintenance and upgrades. That said, you could change the towels any time, and it did have a nice big fridge/freezer. I was there during COVID, so can't comment on breakfast or the gym. Both were canceled.
