On arrival, walking down the beautifully lit hallway you know you’re somewhere special. As we waited in the small waiting area, we had the pleasure of meeting the general manager Adam. His generosity with his time was delightful. He assisted in dinner reservations and marked up a map for local destinations. The hotel kept in touch through “WhatsApp” to let us know the room was ready. They let us in early at 1:30. Carla (lovely young lady from France) from the front desk, walked us to our (Seba) room while giving us a historical background of the hotel and the Nobleman’s room we would be staying in. The room is above all expectations. The attention to the details makes you want to just stay in the room. The lighting, windows, view of the canal, color combinations, leather couch, bed, bathroom(Dyson hairdryer)… all on point. Unfortunately, we had to leave before breakfast service, but they didn’t let us leave without a to go bag of food. We had the privilege of meeting the owner, who was warm and happy to answer questions about his divine hotel. Just make the reservation.

This room (the Michiel de Ruyter) was the best that we’ve ever stayed in! The design is so different, and so inventive, that there really is no comparison I can make. Themed to match the famous Dutch Admiral, this extends to a boat-shaped bathtub in the bedroom, appropriate murals, and a full model galleon behind the bedhead. In addition, the staff are *very* welcoming and the location is in easy walking distance of central Amsterdam, on a quiet canal street. (NB the MdR is at the back of the hotel, overlooking the garden.) Owing to the planning constraints applicable to ancient houses of this type, there is no restaurant, but there is a full in-room breakfast service, orderable the evening before, and many good restaurants in easy walking distance. Unreservedly recommended.
