We had booked an Elbphilharmonie Suite, which turned out to be a gorgeous light room with three ceiling to floor windows overlooking the harbour and the city. It had a huge comfortable bed with perfect (for me) pillows, a desk, lots of chairs and sofas, a fridge, kettle and mugs. The bathroom had another ceiling to floor window and a bath, separate shower and separate wc. There were some really nice touches such as mirrors on the ceiling of the top shelves, so that you could see what was on them, small windows that opened and hooks by the front door (though none in the bathroom!). There were no USBs but plenty of sockets. The A/C was easy to set and worked quite well, but we kept the curtains drawn during the morning when the sun was directly on the room. Turndown offered more interesting ideas such as sunscreen (which was brilliant and useful), foot cream and Mentos as well as a chocolate on the last night. We had breakfast in the hotel on first and last mornings: excellent hot and cold buffet with bacon, fried and scrambled eggs, mushrooms, beans, sausages and potatoes as well as loads of pasties and other options. We also used the Blick Bar, which had very good service. We had beers and potato crisps as well as good cocktails and mocktails: it is quite expensive though.

We love everything about the Fontenay! It is like being on a private, modern yacht & you never want to disembark! All the rooms are very clean, comfortable & spacious. Concierge desk goes the extra mile to get you want you need - from event tickets to elaborate international shipping of my suitcase. LOVE the breakfast & the outdoor seating is gorgeous with the view and light from the Alster. LOVE the pool & outdoor sunning terrace. Be great if more outdoor lounge chairs could be added. LOVE the big sauna & view of the city & steam room. Excellent manicure at Spa. Excellent food & drink on rooftop terrace. Front Desk followed through on giving us the Amex Centurion Card ”early check-in based upon availability” which makes a HUGE difference. Love to get an upgrade ”based upon availability” next time as well as we will be back soon!

Recommended again and again! A real luxury hotel where (almost) everything is right. We have been there several times and are always very impressed with the room, staff and especially the breakfast. Only this time there was a problem with the heating, it couldn't be turned on, a valve was broken. Unfortunately, this was not fixed until the third complaint on our part. Defects can occur, no problem, but then they have to be fixed quickly.

The location is good and the service staff are very friendly. During the epidemic, all services except the room were gone. There are some minor flaws in the facilities, and the coffee machine and hair dryer are not very comfortable to use.

Wir hatten ein Upside und ein Riverview gebucht. Beide hatten eine tolle Aussicht und waren ordentlich und sauber. Leider hatten wir mit dem Personal nicht so viel Glück. Im Davids scheint der Gast nicht König zu sein - die Herren schauten lieber auf ihr Handy und unterhielten sich als sich um die Gäste zu kümmern oder Tische mit leeren Gläsern abzuräumen - wohlbemerkt an allen Tagen, die wir dort waren. Den Zimmerdamen sollte man einmal sagen, dass man anklopft ehe man das Zimmer betritt und nicht einfach aufschließt und reingeht. Absolute Ausnahme ist Kathrin vom Frühstücksservice - eine tolle Dame - immer nett mit einem Lächeln auf dem Gesicht. Das Frühstück war wirklich toll. Unsere Bitte um Tischreservierung im Clouds wurde von der Rezeption vergessen und nicht weitergegeben. Auf Nachfrage bemühte man sich, dann noch einen Tisch zu bekommen. Alles in allem ein gutes Hotel, dem es aber an qualifiziertem und erfahrenem Personal fehlt.

As you walk into the very modern colorful converted lobby you are truly taken by it’s beauty. The front desk staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. They helped us right away by telling us we’re to get a free Covid-19 test. Very fun modern room on the top floor, with lots of big windows. Room was spotless, looks like a brand new addition to the building. The amenities in the room were superb, crystal glasses, Molton Brown soaps, full bottles of water, fabulous cappuccino machine, and a fully stocked mini-bar. Breakfast in a restaurant that will take your breath away. Imposing place with a combination of modern with the original historic structure showcasing. Lots of choices to eat and another great friendly staff. Outstanding location, with tons of bars and restaurants in every single direction. Train station is just 2 blocks away. I have traveled extremely and stayed in plenty of hotels, this one is an incredible place to stay in. As for a room facing the back of the hotel, beautiful gardens to look at.

This is simply a great Hotel. It does exactly what you want - Good sized , clean rooms with large, comfortable beds and well appointed bathrooms. There is access to excellent sports facilities and a very good restaurant , whether its the buffet and eggs chef for Breakfast or a delicious perfectly cooked steak or asparagus ( when in season) for dinner. But its the friendly staff and great customer service starting at the front desk on check in , to the great Bar and restaurant right the way through to House Keeping that make it feel personal I found a lovely letter from Emma of housekeeping , returning a shirt that I had had laundered and had ”secretly booked some extra days”. It was a super personal touch and brought a big smile to my face. Well done The Madison .. many hotels coudl learn a thing or two by staying with you and enjoying your hsopitality .

A very comfortable hotel with very friendly management and staff who (on our visit) were more than willing to try to make sure that our stay was a very pleasant one. Very spacious rooms that were clean with comfortable beds. Which can be at times one of the biggest factors about a hotel. As can be expected the hotel is non-smoking but there is a garden to the rear which despite being surrounded by tall buildings felt very peaceful at times. The only drawback to the hotel is that there is no lift and the entrance itself is up a set of steps. So depending on what floor that you are on it could be quite a little trek up the quirky spiral staircase. The hotel itself is on a quiet street even though when you get to the end of the street you hit the hustle and bustle of shops, food establishments, the theatre, bars, banks, a number of different ATM’s (some free to use while others charge for withdrawing cash) and the police station, it is like you’ve crossed between 2 different worlds. The hotel in ideal location because situated just around the corner from the hotel on the same main road as the shops, choice of food establishments, theatre, and the police station is a number of public transport connection stops meaning that you are free to explore the city and travel with relative ease. If you are planning on using public transport to get around the city then ensure that you purchase the “Hamburg Card” which gives unlimited travel on all HVV public services (bus and trains) including the harbour ferries. The card even includes travel to and from Hamburg Airport (providing you have a valid card), so when you consider that the average price of a taxi to or from the airport is around €35 - €40 each way then the savings start to add up straight away. The card can be bought for just a single traveller or valid for a group of up to 5 people regardless of the ages of travellers. The cost of the card (at the time of writing this review) is: 1 Day — 1 person €11.90 — Group of up to 5 people €19.90 2 Days — 1 person €20.90 — Group of up to 5 people €35.90 3 Days — 1 person €29.90 — Group of up to 5 people €49.90 4 Days — 1 person €39.90 — Group of up to 5 people €66.90 5 Days — 1 person €46.90 — Group of up to 5 people €82.90 As you can see for less than the cost of 2 individual cards 5 people can travel together. Would I stay at the “Hotel Hamburger Perle” again? Definitely!!!
