Reviews From Real Travelers
We stayed here 2 nights and were really impressed by this hotel, it really has everything you need, safe, mini-fridge, kettle with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits, hair-dryer, ironing board/iron, bath and shower, nice toiletries, nice towels, lovely big bed, great bed linen, kept at a nice warm temperature, it really is hard to fault this hotel in any way. Breakfast was included and was up in the penthouse with amazing panoramic views of Plymouth, breakfast itself was probably one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve ever had with a huge choice of hot and cold dishes, including vegetarian options. Most options were self service but there was also a menu of dishes cooked to order such as Eggs Benedict, poached eggs and salmon etc. Hotel itself was a hive of activity in the bar and restaurant on the ground floor but nice and peaceful and quiet up on our floor. One of the lifts was out of action when we were there which caused a bit of congestion and long waits with just the one lift working. Reception was friendly and efficient, we would definitely come here again, the attention to detail and affordable prices make it a really great stay. There are also other facilites here like a pool and sauna however unfortunately we didn’t have the time to use these.

The hotel is in a great location, the view is excellent great food and dining experience. Hotel staff is Great and my house keeper is the best. Ms Lynne I believe I spelled it correctly was very thorough in cleaning the room and making sure everything was top notch. My stay was on the 9th floor so if you are fortunate enough you will see her and experience a room cleaned and kept up perfectly. I can't forget about the servers for breakfast, I don't have their names but I will get them and add to this review or another but they are awesome as well.

I had tried to feedback to management via email before resorting to tripadvisor, but after no acknowledgement in response to my concerns and hence assurance that we were just unlucky with our stay, here goes. I have also seen another review of a guest that didn’t have a particularly good stay, and tried to reach out to the hotel and did not have a response either. Hotel was nice, staff were polite, room was as described. It was our anniversary stay and a card in the room was a nice touch. But there were a few big cons; Before booking Boringdon Hall I had contacted reception to confirm they did have outdoor hot tubs, as this was a deciding factor when booking this or another spa hotel. It was confirmed yes they do, so we booked. When we had arrived it was apparent that their only outdoor hot tubs were closed. This was disappointing and would have been good to know prior to booking/arrival. I know it was March but other spa hotels do have outdoor hot tubs available for use at this time of year. Service in the restaurant was exceptionally slow, to the point of the waiters apologising to us without us saying anything. When our starters came they were cold. I was offered a free side dish, but we had already ordered everything we had wanted. The wait for dessert was soooo long, that we debated just leaving the table. Not sure why it was so slow as our table wasn’t booked until 8pm, it was almost 10pm by the time we actually got our desserts. The next morning, we experienced the same very slow service despite hardly any other guests in the restaurant. Not quite sure if we were unlucky both times or what the case was, certainly not what you’d expect for a restaurant of a 5* hotel… The food was lovely and of good quality but the wait in the restaurants, for both meals, made it quite a bad experience of eating here. Upon checkout, I asked for an itemised bill as it did seem a bit more expensive than we had expected! When I had looked, the drinks on the bill were more than what was advertised on the menus at the bar!!! This doesn’t seem right, fortunately I checked and the receptionist managed to sort it. Be careful if you stay here that you check your bill as I bet they have overcharged many people! A few changes and our stay would have been fantastic, but it was disappointing for our anniversary.

Sadly, this place has gone hugely downhill recently. Pros: Dinner was excellent and the service fantastic. All of the staff were polite and courteous. The room was extremely comfortable and well appointed Cons: The spa was a genuinely terrible experience. Hugely overcrowded and extremely dirty - we notice a plaster by the poolside when we arrived and it was still there when we left 2 days later!! It was certainly not the relaxing experience we were hoping for. Also, loads of the bubble machines were not working and many of the buttons to turn them on were missing. There was no prior communication on the £90 limit on the prepaid dinner included in the dinner and breakfast package. This limit was only brought to our attention when the bill was presented at the end of the evening. Had we been informed about this beforehand, we would have made different choices in our selection, ensuring that we stayed within the budget. Be warned!! Breakfast was terrible - the bacon was undercooked and all of the pastries stale. The most frustrating part of the whole visit, however, is the fact that after our stay I emailed Boringdon very politely thanking them for our stay and giving our feedback, so they could resolve these issues for future guests. However, five months later I haven’t even had a response to my email, let alone an apology for the issues that were outlined. Very disappointing from a place that we have had such positive experiences at precisely..

Wonderful apartment with great location right at the sea. In an old renovated Proviant magazine with many restaurants around the corner. However, the bathroom would be somewhat to renovate.

Stayed for 12 nights as on a two week training course in Plymouth, nice comfortable room, all amenities available hot and cold drinks (cold kept in room fridge, found the fridge handy to store extra milk!) as not keen on the cartons of milk nice hot shower and bath however shower does take a while to warm up bed and towels changed daily, hotel good location and easy access to all Plymouth attractions within walking distance beware if on foot of the hills! as the hotel is at the top of a hill, good selection at breakfast and nice friendly staff and good to see the hotel manager around the hotel greeting guests at breakfast, also nice to get a complimentary drinks voucher a nice touch too. and a nice fitness suite for guests to use,a few minor issues slight peel on wallpaper in room, warm room had to keep fan on or open window also as light sleeper and at back of hotel could hear students in the student flats opposite and the seagulls flying around all nightFrom$53

We stayed for one night in August. The Duke of Cornwall is a historic Victorian building which looks amazing on the outside, it’s a very old hotel so has some querks. There was major external works so scaffolding in place and most of the building was covered in tarpaulin. We booked via a popular ”booking” site for £210 for a family room + our fur baby including breakfast. A Grand staircase leads up to all floors and these are well numbered and easy to find rooms. You can take the lift if you prefer but it is very small and a bit claustrophobic. We were in Room 410 – the room itself was huge, bedroom and bathroom, whilst huge, the room was bit 'tired' but very clean & a modernised bathroom. The bed was VERY comfy and we had a good night’s sleep. Hairdryer supplied in room – handy although it was a typical travel hairdryer so don’t expect too much. The back of the hotel is very different to the front, a bit run-down and in desperate need of sprucing up! Car parking - small car park and situated at the back of the building, with a walkway from the car park leading into the hotel and then down one floor to reception to check in. Bar area = modernised with original features and prices were reasonable. We did request a snack at about 8:30ish and was told to wait as kitchen was still open but no one came to take order - the hotel information stated the restaurant served meals from 7pm until 9:30pm daily so we were a little disappointed that we couldn’t have anything. Breakfast: was served in the bar area as we had taken our fur baby down with us. There was a choice of croissants, cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc. or cooked selection. We opted for bacon, sausage, scrambled egg and mushrooms all ordered from our table and was brought out within 5 minutes – staff were really friendly and attentive. Although the breakfast was fine it seemed expensive for the 3 of us as was £54.00. We had mixed feelings about our stay. The hotel itself is very grand in the public areas but the corridors and rooms need some attention to bring them back up to the grandeur they once were – we would stay again if rooms had an upgrade to match the rest of the hotel.From$45

The beds are excellent quality. The hotel is well-located. I second the mention of James on reception, a most helpful person. Yet on the whole the atmopsphere was sterile. Taxis tend only to pick up from a cul-de-sac at the back of the hotel unless one remonstrates with them. Room service finishes quite early in mid-evening. I tried the food twice. Once some late night food from the bar (avocado and egg salad with overly acidic grains) which I didn't finish. Once for the breakfast room, depressing atmosphere, though there was the usual tick-box selection of cooked and cold food. If you want a *nice* breakfast go to Prime Cafe Bar on Ebrington Street , just a few minutes walk, it's much more welcoming and wholesome. Leonardo Hotel is a functional business hotel, slight better than the cheapest 'Lodge'-type places and with decent sized rooms. But it lacks any soul. Although well-situated in terns of being close to several facilities, the view from the windows across the street is equally bleak, lifted only slightly by a Dominos Pizza take-away interjected in nondescript vista.From$71

Stayed here three times in the last 12 months. Staff always welcoming. Hotel amenities great. Always use the swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Breakfast is never rushed even if we arrived down a bit later than most people. Also, for a small charge we can park in the hotel car park which is a bonus.From$46

What a great hotel - perfectly positioned for the theatre, restaurants and visiting the city/shops. Handily it also has free parking, first come first served. Our bedroom (we were upgraded on arrival) was very spacious and clean. It was especially nice to have armchairs in the room to make it more comfortable to sit and read without the need to perch on the bed or sit on the dressing table chair. The hotel provides a great choice at breakfast - fruit juice, yogurts, fruit, cereal, croissants etc as well as a great choice of hot options. More importantly to the enjoyment of our stay was that all the staff made us feel really welcome and did everything with genuine smiles. We loved it and will definitely stay here when we visit Plymouth again.From$73

We stayed for three nights at the Future Inn Plymouth. On arrival we received a lovely warm welcome by the reception staff, our room was extremely spacious, clean with a well-stocked hospitality tray, the slippers & bathrobes were definitely an added bonus. Large free car park with plenty of parking available and despite been a little way out of Plymouth City centre the road links and frequent public transport made it easy to get out and about. We thought our stay was good value for money and would definitely stay again if in the Plymouth area. Many thanksFrom$73

The couple at the hotel are courteous to their guests. The room is neat, clean and comfortable, and the sound insulation is good. Although it is thin, it is overall very good. The oil painting has a little bit of a Greek feel to it. The dining room where breakfast is served has some unique furnishings.
With such a price for breakfast, I think it is well worth staying. Full marksSOLD OUT
