2024 Reviews: Penvale Lake Lodges Reviews from Real Guests.

We are repeat visitors as we love the setting of these lodges and location but after this visit we have all said we wouldn’t return unless the lodges were drastically improved. Positives - setting, location, family time Negatives - needs a refurb, so run down literally falling apart. Beds had springs sticking in us hardly slept, pillows are so thin no point in them, lack of towels, not enough cutlery, placemats, glasses etc for the number of people the lodge accommodates. The hot tub was full of bits on arrival and never maintained whilst here even though they said it’s checked daily. The smell from what I think is the septic tank was awful and kept coming past us. The decking is rotting and falling apart, bathroom shower was powerful but either cold or scalding. A few of us love fishing and last year there was no fish, we asked a couple of days before arriving if they had restocked they told us yes, so sorted fishing tackle, bait etc. spent hours fishing but no fish and when we asked on site the look from the lady said it hasn’t been restocked and they said the herons had been busy ( they told us 3 days before arrival it was restocked and had fish). For what you pay these lodges are really not worth it. We are gutted as we love this location, and I’ve even told others to come here ( I will be telling them to avoid now unfortunately). In short the lodges are falling apart, tired and far from luxery. It looks like they start jobs and just don’t bother to finish them such as walls half painted. They are very very tired and need money putting back into them and upgrading. We have made the most of our weekend and we have enjoyed our time together but these lodges are not worth what we paid. I hope someone sees this review and others (didn’t check before as we had been before) and makes improvements as we would love to come back to this location if improved.

We’re here now and debating calling it quits! It’s called family friendly but after 5pm there’s no staff and the lodge up from us are literally playing music full blast … the lodge no12 is falling the pieces, sofas broken, blinds broken, no batteries in tv remote… outside would be be better used for a horror movie intro! Daughters room has n hardly any lighting as 3/4 bulbs gone ! It’s a real shame … we truly paid A LOT to come here and as I write this people are whistling and shouting as if I’m at an adults only Butlin’s weekend!!! Evermore more like never more! I’m literally crying… don’t book this dump

Stayed in lodge 12 in February went to collect key from reception which was more like a laundry room with clean and dirty bedding scattered everywhere. First impressions from the lodge was that it was very out dated and in need of major renovations . I would describe it as a health and safety nightmare as you can see from photos I’ve uploaded. This accommodation falls massively short as being luxurious which is how it is described. I would be fascinated to see the report of checks made prior to the arrival of guests. Unfortunately this is left to the guest to report as penvale lakes are unprepared to take any responsibility for any issues raised during and after checkout. It is simply not good enough I have made contact with penvale lakes who are unprepared to issue any form of compensation which in my opinion is a clear breach of contract the owner has again in my opinion taken money fraudulently though advertising a product that is not fit for purpose. For example you buy a jumper online which looks great from the pictures only to find the sleeve missing when it arrives and the company is unprepared to issue a replacement or refund or any form of compensation. At present I’m taking legal advice . Please book with extreme caution if you fancy a holiday with a missing sleeve . One final note thanks for the ear infections after swimming in your pool . Just returned from a fabulous weekend with friends. The lodge was perfect and had everything we needed, including some cleaning supplies and all we needed for lighting the fire. The beds were comfortable. Everywhere was clean and tidy. The hot tub was perfect, the staff even came to top it up and make sure it was clean every morning. The staff went above and beyond, even helping us to find a taxi to get back whilst we out and about. Location is stunning and quiet. Perfect relaxed weekend had by us all. We can’t wait to come back!!

A party of 26 of us stayed in 3 lodges and the cottage for a joint 60th birthday. The lodges are in a beautiful location with good walks close by and a 40 minute walk into Llangollen. All the accommodations were very good, clean and had washing machine, dishwasher. The hot tub was amazing. The lodges do need a little bit of tlc but this didn’t spoil our holiday in any way !
