We went on the 4D3N trek with refugios salkantay and had a wonderful experience. We stayed with two lovely families who were friendly and supportive throughout the hikes. Food was healthy and tasty at each location, and everything was planned and layed out well for us even as an independent non-guided hike. Support was also provided via transport of excess clothes or resources we did not want to carry in our pack to each location we stayed. The hikes themselves were of course beautiful and enjoyable going through the Salkantay trail. Overall, would highly recommend booking your visit to Machu Piccu with refugios salkantay.

We did the Independent 5D/4N Salkantay trek and had the best experience: from the start, the organization and communication was easy and well planned; the families were so welcoming (a special thanks to Samir and his family who made us feel part of their home) and the food was great. Even if we didn’t speak much Spanish, we could always find a way to communicate and exchange. Their way of organizing the trek is more ethic and respectful of locals than going on a tour with an agency. Thank you Refugios Salkantay!

The entire Refugios team and their families were incredibly friendly, welcoming and attentive. Me and my girlfriend had an amazing time on our independent 4 day trek, the food was excellent and the accomodation was incredibly comfortable (the warm showers were very welcome after a full day of hiking) and the hotel in Aguas Calientes exceeded our expectations. Alberto in particular made sure we made it to Salkantay Pass okay and brought us extra snacks at key points which was extremely thoughtful. You definitely won't go hungry as all the food was incredibly fresh and plentiful - the yucca fries in particular were a highlight. We really enjoyed the level of independence as we could walk at our own pace, take breaks when we wanted and enjoyed having nature to ourselves. We did have the gpx route on a smart watch for assurance which was helpful although there are guided groups along the way that you can check the route with. Overall, we had an amazing experience and would highly recommend

This was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. My brother and I did the independent Salkantay short trek, and I highly recommend it over literally any group tour you may find online. You can go at your own pace (all those groups we passed by were excruciatingly slow), and stay at the places you like for as long as you want, while every annoying part of trekking – carrying heavy bags, meals, sleeping arrangements, route planning – is being taken care of by some of the most friendly families you ever meet. Refugious Salkantay is absolutely the best way to do the Salkantay Trek.

We had a fantastic experience on our trek with Refugio Salkantay . From being picked up from our hotel to our final day, we felt taken care of but also left free so we kept a sense of independence. Our hosts were warm and inviting at every stop. The lodgings were simple but warm and comfortable and the food was delicious, plentiful, and homemade using local produce. The four day trek included a relaxing hot spring and opportunity to see the local culture close up. While self guided, we never felt worried we were on the right trail and one of our hosts was on hand on the most challenging section, the Salkantay pass. We thoroughly recommend Refugio for an authentic, affordable and enjoyable experience.
