Our travel agent suggested this hotel and we're so glad she did. We asked for accommodations near the city center and honestly, we couldn't have been better situated. The property is elegant, clean, and comfortable. When we checked in, Natalie was incredibly helpful. We requested an upgrade which she provide at no additional cost and our corner room was perfect. Huge walk-in closet, luxurious bath tub and thoughtful touches - hand lotion, fluffy robes, complimentary water - throughout. Natalie also gave us a list of her favorite restaurants and chocolate shops. The bartender was a jewel. She offered sound advice regarding New Year's Eve in the city and even better service while we relaxed in the bar. We enjoyed hot carrot soup and cold beer after a touristy day... perfection! The breakfast buffet was extensive, well-presented and replenished often - absolutely book with breakfast included. A delightful surprise was the large Christmas market across the street from the hotel! We love a market and this one didn't disappoint. We would absolutely stay at Nh Gent Belfort on our next visit to this charming city.

Almost by accident we found this hotel some years ago, and what a fortunate discovery. Previously we have stayed in a variety of hotels in Ghent, but this one exceeds all expectations. The location is just right - close enough to all the tourist attractions, (you can see the three towers from the front of the hotel) but across a canal from the hustle and bustle. In the neighbourhood there are so many restaurants, although because breakfast was so substantial there was no need to stop for lunch. The breakfast was of the highest quality with lots to choose from - cooked as well as chilled. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was excellent with a superb shower. What makes this hotel so special is the level of service from everyone. During our stay it was my husband's birthday (he loves to spend his bithday in Ghent) and a lovely surprise was left in the room for him. This hotel has the ability to make me feel happy - before our stay I look forward to it, during our stay everything is perfect, and afterwards we are left with the most amazing memories. We really look forward to returning next year.

A bit of a late review, but myself and my boyfriend loved our stay here so much I couldn't not write one. We stayed here from 23rd-27th December 2018. We booked the hotel as a Christmas treat, and we weren't dissapointed. We were in awe our whole stay, the hotel is AMAZING!!! Getting there - we arrived at Brussels airport and got a train from there to 'Gent Sint Pieters' then from there walked outside of the station to the tram stop where we got the number 1 tram to Ghent Town centre, get off at stop 'Gent Korenmarkt perron 5', and it's a 2 minute walk to hotel. The total travel time was around 1hr 40mins, probably quicker in a cab, but we prefer to do try out local public transport rather than just hopping in a cab. Location - Amazing, couldn't be more central. Right in the midst of the Christmas market, we could see the big wheel from our window. Room itself - Amazing! As soon as we walked in the room we were in love, the decor and layout of the room were beautiful. Hotel communal area - The hotel decor was amazing throughout, and the smell was delightful (must find out what they use!). They also had a nice spot where you could sit down and chill/ read, as it was Christmas when we stayed they had a massive Christmas tree there which made the area even better. Staff - Very friendly and accomodating. It was my boyfriend's birthday on Christmas Day, I told them this in advance, and they kindly left a bottle of wine upon our arrival, we also got chocolates on Christmas Day :). On Christmas Day evening we went to the bar for a cocktail and the bartender gave us a shot free of charge when he found out it was my boyfriend's birthday. On one day of our stay it was very busy and we didn't get our room cleaned (which we didnt actually mind) but a lady who was head of cleaning there i believe was so apologetic and offered to give us a bottle of wine by ways of an apology (which we sadly couldn't accept as we were checking out and only had hand luggage). Breakfast - Bit on the expensive side, but then all of Ghent was. I believe it cost around 25 Euros, my boyfriend had it on our last day, it did look tasty but as a vegan it wasn't worthwhile as I would've only been able to have toast and coffee. I couldn't recommend this hotel enough, especially if you're considering booking around Christmas market time.

This is more like a business hotel situated right in the centre of the old town. The hotel interior is very modern and clean with the old building frontage on the canal. The room was excellent, large clean and quiet – but a shower over the bath is a negative point. Has its own parking garage – a bit low in places 1.70 m. and €40 per day, which it probably o.k. given that you just leave the car and wander around the town. The staff (especially at the breakfast) were really friendly and helpful. The quality and variety of the breakfast was very good (including a glass of Cava if you fancied it), but the breakfast dining rooms are cramped and it could be very busy if the hotel is heavily booked. We were lucky to be helped by a lovely lady working at breakfast time. Did not try the restaurant – seemed a bit pricey. Nice bar area - although you would not describe it as cosy - with a pianist on the Friday that we stayed there. The bar snacks were quite nice Not a cheap option, but the location and facilities are just about worth the money

A large family (mainly the elderly, three in their 80s, one in their 70s, and others are more than sixty) traveled together and was very lucky to choose this hotel, right next to Buff Cathedral. Kneeling, not far from the clock tower, is squatting. Of course, Ghent is not big, small and exquisite, simple and profound. The two sides of the river are the scenery and feelings of being intoxicated. By the way, I went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch and dinner, called Jin Jiang Hotel. Haha, there are a lot of snacks next to the hotel. The breakfast is not in the hotel. It is not far from the small cafe. It opens at 7:00. However, most of them are open after 8:30. Very satisfied with a stay. The picture on the roof in the photo is looking out of the room.

Friendly and helpful staff, but pretty much the worst hotel I have visited in the Gent area. I have put 4 stars as otherwise it will not show the review on the home page. The wifi is non existent unless you are in the main part of the hotel, but the rooms i stayed in the main part of the hotel are very outdated and not very clean. I changed rooms 3 times, once for no wifi coverage, the second was tiny and grubby, and the 3rd had no carpet and just bare old floorboards that had not been sanded or cleaned in 20 years. The wood floor was black with dirt in places and the boards moved and were full of splinters. The "gym" was a death trap, the bench collapsed when you tried to sit on it, the running machine needed a magnet key from reception but the motor was so burned out you had to step off it while it spun up. It had not been cleaned in years and was a model from the 1990's, as was the exercise bike. The room was basically an old store room in the basement and the ceiling was not high enough to work with weights or even stretch above your head. The gym room was full of old beds and chairs and smelled badly. There was a sauna available, but to use it costs 10 euros, which is an insane price for something you might use for 30 mins. The breakfast is very limited and having spent many weeks in the Tower Hotel in Aalst, which is the same company, the difference is huge. I was expecting a similar breakfast to the Aalst hotel, but the breakfast in the Gravensteen had hardly any choice and of low quality. Considering the price they charge for it, not worth it at all. The fault is not the staff as they were friendly and helpful. The hotel looks like it has not had any investment for 20 years and while once it was probably very lush, they have just kept it running on a shoestring for the last 20 years. You can see that the carpet has been removed in some areas (bedroom and main stairs) instead of replacing it. The location is good for the city I guess, and really the best part of the hotel was the amusing cat that hangs around reception and is friendly to guests. But I will be requesting to my company that I am not sent there again.

Situated next to the river, the hotel offers amazing comfort in an area close to the vibrant city centre, but tucked away enough to be very peaceful. We were offered a room upgrade and we were impressed. A large comfortable bed, plenty of space in a gorgeous room. The bathroom was spotless, spacious and the shower extremely powerful. The room smelled of the disinfectant used due to the covid crisis. Not overpowering but actually very reassuringly nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they were very conscientious about the covid-19 issues, all wore masks ans insisted guests did when using the communal areas such as bar and breakfast room (apart from when actually eating and drinking of course ;) ) The breakfast was ample and tasty, all the utensils were individually wrapped and handed out by staff. They made sure everything was being wiped down as soon as anybody left a table. The parking was very close by and it cost us just €24 in a public car park for our 36 hours in the city, way cheaper than found in most other cities. Nothing but good things to say about the hotel, would 100% use it again,

This stay was good for us however it wouldn’t be for everyone. Starting with the good. It is an attic room with big windows that offer great views of the city. The room was tasteful and clean, the king bed was comfortable and extra pillows were a welcome bonus, the towels were lovely and large and the shower was really nice. However, being in the attic, the roof was slanted, as we are not a “tall” couple it was manageable however even I at 5’4 had to watch myself in the toilet cubby. Also, the light in the toilet was motioned controlled and we couldn’t turn it off (at least we didn’t know how to turn it off) so it came on in the night when I got up to use the toilet which disturbed my hubby. There was no tv, not a big deal and more my oversight as it wasn’t listed on the description of the amenities. The last negative which is also subjective were the stairs. Approximately 90 stairs to get to the room. The last section was a spiralled staircase which was tricky with luggage and no railing to hang on to. We managed but some might not. On the plus, they stored our luggage so we could go sightseeing, it was easy to contact them to gain entrance and they texted me the code for the doors and the wifi code. The location was really convenient. Overall the stay was good and price was reasonable.

From the moment I spoke to Caroline on the phone from the U.K, I knew Id3made the right choice! Very easy reservation and she wss very helpful. We were even happier when we arrived to find a super boutique-style hitel, good Covid measures, clear instructions for checking in and a fab location close to Ghent centre and to the hospital we intended to visit. Super airy and clean rooms, very relaxing, cosy but minimalist! Fridge and coffee/tea machine, warm and fab shower. Our own code to get in and grwat interior design in the lounge etc Maria welcomed us and answered our questions, later sending us WhatsApp details of recommended restaurants, which we tried. This was just the right place for us at a difficult time. Would recommend The House of Edward to holidaymakers, business people and anyone who wants a lovely hotel in Ghent and goid value too. Dankje wel, Maria abe we will return when we are needed at tge hospital again! Maggie abd James x

My husband and I booked 1 night at the Hotel de Flandre and upon arrival were told there were some renovations ongoing and so directed us to their sister hotel 5 minutes walk away. Finding that already a little strange we took our luggage and made our own way to the new address Hotel Graventeen. The initial reception looks quite impressive but don't be fooled. We were checked in and given our key and made our way out the back and across a car park to an annex building. Here you badged in ( no reception desk) and we found our way to our room. The room itself was very large and I would image was probably the best in the hotel but in no way was it what we expected. I actually have no issue with Graventeen as if you pay for a 3 star then it's pretty run of the mill. We did visit the "fitness and sauna" but the sauna mentioned it was out of order and there were mattresses and a bed lined up against a treadmill so all in all it didn't look very cared for. We had breakfast which was good but realized that the hotel itself was full of students so I imagine it's rather reasonable for youth and groups. Now my issue is that we didn't pay for a 3 star, we paid for a 4 star and I have never been "downgraded" before ! I did past back to the Hotel de Flandre the next morning to relay my disappointment and despite the friendly face on reception there was no offer of a part refund. We love Gent and often spend a night there but this is one hotel group we will not be using again.

I really cannot share the negative comments by some travellers here. Yes, it's a small and slightly improvised place, but the price is attractive at such a central location. You will have a huge room, almost studio and lot's of privacy (never saw another guest). But yes, the stairs are long and very narrow, so no good if you cannot climb or have bulky luggage. Most importantly: there is no staffed reception, check-in is at the coffee shop downstairs which closes at 18h. So make sure to make arrangements if you arrive after hours. Not like me...

Good location and very close to a fantastic restaurant! No room keeper shown up and everything was self-serviced. No elevator makes it inconvenient to carry the luggage upstairs. But in general, the room was nice.

So I stayed one night at the Holiday Inn Gent Expo as I visited Gent for one day. There were things we liked and disliked. What I liked was the location. It's indeed close to the Gent Expo and a tram stop. Plus, a taxi from the center of Gent to the hotel will not set you back more than 25 euros. Furthermore, the staff at the reception was friendly and more than willing to give some tips as to how to go to the city centre and back. The breakfast offered plenty of choice in a big enough atrium. We did not have dinner in the atrium but if it is dark outside one might perhaps even been able to see the stars. The overall atmosphere, layout of the hotel, furbishment and looks, however, feel a bit old-fashionned, like a past glory. 20 years ago it would have been up to standard but now it just felt a bit old. Old does not imply bad though because the rooms were spacious and clean enough. If you take into account the above and look at the room rate of more than 110 euros for one night for two persons including breakfast than I unfortunately come to the conclusion that you can get a better deal in the Gent error. As indicated, the hotel is fine to stay some nights in but the price is just a bit too steep in my opinion for what you get.

If you ever plan a city-break in Ghent or a business trip, you should choose to stay in Holiday Inn Express . The hotel is located in a quiet area and you can get to city center very easy by bus, tram or by car. I will start with the check-in, beautiful lobby where you can find a very nice staff, always wanted to help you with everything, staff lead by a very friendly and professional manager. All the Covid safety rules are respected - it is mandatory to wear a mask and the disinfectant is avilable at the entrance. The hotel policy is "We promise that clean means clean" and this promise was kept during the 4 all weeks I stayed there! The room was lovely, super clean with most comfortable bed I have ever slept on and I also love they pillows. Every evening I was pleased to rest in the most cosy armchair. In the room I had also a kitchenette, with cofee machine, microwave oven and fridge. The bathroom was modern and clean. The guys from the reception ware very helpful in directing me to nice restaurants , so I have good food experiences as well. For me, it was like they they thought of everything to please my stay. Definitely I will recomend this peace of heaven to everyone! Thank you Celine Roosen for everything!

Although it is slightly outside of the city centre, this charming little hotel is well worth booking. It has an elegant serene air about it and the host and staff are most welcoming. Our room (6) was spacious, quirky and most peaceful. The bed was comfortable and the tea/coffee making facilities most welcoming. We walked into the centre just before dusk and witnessed the magical transformation of the clever lighting illuminating the many stunning buildings. Ghent is breathtaking and although we stayed only one night, it’s a stay we shall remember for a very long time.
