I’m not a negative person, nor am I a Karen but I came here for my birthday with my boyfriend and well, here goes 🙈 I wasn’t impressed… Great location- a 1min walk to pubs, clubs, restaurants, casino, shopping & tourist sights at the harbour. Reception staff (only staff we saw the entire time we stayed) friendly, happy & helpful. From walking in room seemed ok, we dropped off our bags and went out for dinner but upon walking back in the room filled with the smell of sewage coming from the bathroom plug holes, but was so late we just collapsed in bed. Bathroom in general not very clean with a build up of un-cleaned limescale around taps/shower, pubic hair in shower 🤢 Stain on base/side of bed, chair and carpet beside it Window didn’t open so couldn’t get fresh air into the room We had a ‘Double’ room- the small double bed was more like a large single bed There’s a kettle in the room but if you want water to fill it you need to go down the hall and buy a bottle of water from a machine as there’s no bottle of water or fridge in the room Only meal we ate in the hotel was breakfast and again wasn’t a clean area, nor was all ‘hot’ food kept warm, with sausages put out on just a plate to go cold, cutlery dirty, no a great choice of food, only egg available is scrambled, coffee is from a help yourself machine and tastes vile. Tables were not cleaned even tho there were lots of empty tables they all had leftover/finished food plates on them. All round an ok place to stay for 1 night of getting on the drink and needing a good location place to crash as it’s on the door step so no taxis required at the end of the night, but would not recommend this place for couples to have a nice weekend away, nor would I recommend it for families with children. The high price per night is most definitely because of its location and nothing more

Before I begin, as an ex-serviceman I am fully aware that this hotel is not an average one. It is a service for former and serving military personnel and provides more than just a room for the night. That said, although I think this is an excellent setup I will review the establishment as a hotel because this is how it was advertised to me and what I used it for. The location was very good. A stone throw from the Historic Dockyard, Harbour Train Station and Gunwharf Quays. The town centre wasn't too far away either. The appearance from the outside was a bit tired but still welcoming. The main lobby was very impressive, one cannot deny that. A lot of effort has gone into the decor and arrangements so I did truly like this. The staff were excellent, not one complaint. Always happy to help and very polite. The bar was very good too. Similar setup to an ex-servicemen club so felt right at home here. Very fair prices and a lot of friendly faces. In addition, there are lots of lounge areas and quiet spaces set up around the hotel which was great. The biggest let down for me was the room itself. Granted, I paid for a "basic" or "standard" room but I was still not impressed when comparing to the photos on TripAdvisor and, indeed, their website. I will also add that the room was sufficiently cleaned everyday and the issue was not one of cleanliness. The decor, however, must have been from the 80s anyway and remained untouched since. The wallpaper was barely hanging on and had very questionable stains on them (mucus etc.). The carpet, although clean, was frayed in places. The toilet was simply needing replaced. The photo of the bowl I have provided was like this when I first arrived and was very off putting. Everytime I used the flush I got sprayed with it! The reading lamps above my bed didn't work. The chair and desk provided looked like they were from the Second World War. I felt like I was coming into a room from the hotel in The Shining if I am honest. Just not the standard I was expecting from a 3* hotel in 2022. Overall, I would recommend that to stay here you should select your calibre of room carefully. Check photographs and weigh up if you will receive value for money before selecting. However, if you feel you pay for more than the room at this hotel - which is quite possible - then I would certainly recommend for all other points.

I always try and give a balance review but this hotel is definitely the worst one I’ve stayed in! First, I’m a diamond reward member which in ‘ALL’ Holiday Inn I’ve stayed has got me a upgraded room, It also noted in my booking but the receptionist and his poor attitude he refused to give me an upgraded room because none was available?! Funny that because I checked before I made the booking and again when I got to the room and he was lying!! When I got out of the lift the whole floor smelled of beer, and i looked there was a tray full of half empty beer bottles just left next to the lift..? And it was still there the following day. When I got to my room, the hotel left a card on my bed saying the room been cleaned to a high standard etc but I don’t know what standard they grade against as you can see from the picture - in the bathroom sink area there was strange white stains everywhere?!?!?! Also the shower gel bottle was empty?! - From Sunday till Thursday one lift wasn’t working so each morning and evening there was a long queue and no1 bothered to put a hotel out of order sign up! The steam and Sauna room were both ok, sadly I can’t review the jacuzzi because it was out of order too! It’s impossible to park in the CarPark after 5.30pm because it was full most days I got back, so ended up parking in the street. On check-out I asked the receptionist for a copy of my bill, she said I will get an email with a copy. By midday I still not received anything so I called the hotel and spoke to the same receptionist gave her all my details - she then said because I used a 3rd party she ‘can’t’ send me a copy of my bill ? I told her I’ve stayed in many holiday inn’s and never been refused a copy of my bill and she still wouldn’t give me a copy - I needed this to claim on my expenses. It’s safe to stay I won’t ever staying here again-

Breakfast is a good English breakfast, there is a coffee machine, you can choose several different coffee, this is better than many hotels. The twin room is very mini and compact to be astonishing. The bathroom is minimalist. There is always someone in the night who doesn't know where to sing and quarrels at one or two in the night. The chairs in the restaurant are too dirty and it is recommended that they be cleaned. The restaurant waiters are very good and warm and thoughtful. The restaurant is equipped with a pool table, a pound of a game, very good.

Stayed over before catching ferry. This is a safe hotel to stay in, you can keep an eye on your car from your room (depending on where this is obviously!). £5 parking fee no quibble. Food seems expensive so didn’t eat here. Room clean with all amenities to hand. Had to remake bed as this had not been done correctly. Bathroom was clean but the shower leaked all over floor (definite plumbing problems here). The public bathroom next to our room flooded with some ingress under our bedroom door. Was annoyed that staff did not make any attempt to check on us but when we tried to call reception there was no answer. There is a Sainsburys very close to the hotel and of course Deliveroo will get your food to you in good time. We were one of the first for breakfast service at 6:30 am and whilst you cannot fault the choice and volume of items the hot food is over cooked and tough even at that time (obviously cooked a very long way in advance). The hotel is Child friendly and I would recommend for families as this is a cheap and cheerful place which did the job. I paid £74 for our room. No complaints really but would not stay here again.

Spotlessly clean, big rooms, funky decor, great location and an excellent breakfast! Somerset house is across a quiet road from the main Hotel building but this was not in any way an issue. The room was large, comfortable and very clean with tea making facilities. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and professional and the breakfast was of a very high standard. Parking is the only small issue as there are only a few dedicated spaces outside the main building (but the hotel will give you a residents permit to park on the street) but this did not spoil our break at all. We will be visiting again soon and bringing our little dog!

Stayed for one night with breakfast. The property is beautiful! We had a dog friendly room on the top floor, absolutely spotlessly clean, very large room with bathroom/shower. The receptionist, Anna, was very professional and welcoming explaining breakfast arrangements and showing us where to park (we were able to use the car park for one of the other properties nearby, but parking permits are supplied if needed). The breakfast was served in the garden chalet which is for guests who come with their dogs. The chalet was warm & clean and decorated really nicely. Emily who took our breakfast order was really helpful and polite. There was a good choice on the breakfast menu too. We would highly recommend this boutique hotel, it’s in a good location, especially as we were there with our dog, a 2 min walk to the large grass area for morning walks, and a pleasant walk along the sea front to gun warf quays. Beaches are closed to dogs 30 Apr-30 Sept, but the promenade is really nice to walk along & we drove to Hayling Island (15 mins) where there is a year round dog friendly beach. We would definitely stay at this hotel again… a great find!!

Shame that the welcome was so unfortunately poor because this budget hotel is particularly good apart from the pathetic and incompetent customer service that is presently being offered; everything provided by the employees was an effort and completed with a standoffish and unfriendly attitude. The location is exceptionally good for Fratton Park FC, there is a Tesco Extra, McDonald's, and KFC adjacent. Fratton railway station is a good twenty minutes’ walk away yet the bus to Southsea and Portsmouth town centers departs from the main road adjacent to the hotel. The budget room is okay, a little austere but practical, the one seat provided is terrible and the mattress very thin (okay if you like sleeping on a hard shelf), the TV was good if small and the integrated bathroom provided good shower, the Wi-Fi was good. No beverage-making facilities in the room and not available in the reception area either. Do not expect any customer service or even a smile from the staff, just rudeness and ineptitude.

I just spent 5 nights at Portsmouth Marriott was here for business. I have mixed feelings about this hotel. The bedroom was spacious and the king size bed was very comfy. The breakfast restaurant staff were very friendly and a good selection to chose from. My problem with this visit was two things:- on Tuesday evening I could hear a dog barking a few times while I was trying to do some work in the room and just thought it was outside (I was on the 5th floor) and when I opened the door to go down for breakfast on Wednesday - I then heard the barking again and realised it was coming from the room opposite me. I spoke to reception on Wednesday evening just to make them aware and they didn’t seem bothered and just said the hotel is pet friendly. After staying in this hotel for past two weeks I booked another hotel for next week. The gym is very disappointing, the equipment is very dated and needs a deep clean - the buttons on the running machine at the end of the row is very dirty. I wiped it down myself but its very sticky if you touch the handles.

More than a thousand sea view rooms are not very good. The top floor is about the same size as the attic. The window size is less than one square meter. It is noisy to open the window and sleep on the street. For the first time, breakfast needs to add money. The stored baggage has no baggage tag and is placed in the corner of the lobby.
