I write this review as I leave Taj Bekal with the fondest memories - three blissful days engulfed in true Taj hospitality. I came here with my husband to celebrate our first anniversary and stayed in their Kerala-style premium plunge pool villas. These villas are built so thoughtfully, are modern yet the architectural style is so beautifully inspired by local Kerala art and culture. The plunge pool is squeaky clean and absolutely divine. There's a large swing overlooking the pool and the courtyard and because there is so much greenery around, even in the middle of march we could lie here all day and listen to birds chirp. If you're travelling as a couple, we would urge you to book one of these premium villas - they are private, well-maintained and you will thoroughly enjoy yourselves. The property is a world in itself. Once you're here, you don't and won't step out for a thing. We stayed in for all three nights due to the Coronavirus scare which the property has handled splendidly with heightened sanitization protocols. We kayaked in the day, did archery, enjoyed their complimentary high tea service by the backwaters where a small "thela" style setup was serving hot tea, coffee, hot chocolate and Kerala style pakoras and starters. Such a wonderful touch to add to anyone's stay. By the third day, they started to expect us to turn up right on time for this service :) The beach is a two minute walk from the villas and you can also request for golf carts to take you there. The beach is super clean and well maintained with a few sun beds. Swimming here is prohibited due to high waves and a security personnel is always watching to make sure you're safe. The food - I could write pages about the incredible food served here - especially at their sea-food specialty restaurant By The Bay and this is coming from a vegetarian! My husband (who's non-vegetarian) devoured the curries and biryani and their famed Sea Food Trilogy platter while I chomped down a rice dumpling curry with flaky malabari paratha. The first experience was so good, we decided to eat here on all the three days. We also called for a delish wood-fired oven pizza as in-room dining which we gobbled up in seconds by the pool :) Special shout out to Abin at By The Bay for serving all our meals with the biggest smile and always giving great recommendations. Also, cannot thank F&B ***ager Mr. Shakti who personally spoke to guests during high tea to get our feedback and also ensured my husband had crispy hot bacon every day during breakfast even though it wasn't on the menu. The team here notices tiny things and your preferences - after the first day, the staff at breakfast knew we liked to have strong cold coffee and it used to arrive at our table the moment we used to seat ourselves - made strong specially for us :) We unfortunately could not avail spa services because Taj has shut Jiva spas across the country as a step to curb Coronavirus but we did visit it on the first day t

Stayed at The Hermitage for our last five nights of a three week southern India holiday. This hotel had been recommended by a friend. It is set by a very long sandy beach with the amazingly warm waters of the Arabian Sea. The focus of the hotel is very much on relaxation with no TVs, complimentary yoga every morning and a luxurious spa. The infinity swimming pool was fairly large, looked out over the beach and was great for early morning laps or relaxation on its numerous sunbeds. Most of the time there were staff available to bring drinks and pool snacks. The fish restaurant on the beach was lovely and where we ate every day in the evening and where breakfast was served. All the waiting staff were lovely, efficient, friendly and worked extremely hard. We didn’t eat in the open sided covered restaurant as the weather was wonderful while we were staying and we wanted to make the most of the sea views. However, if we’d stayed longer we may have ventured in as the fish restaurant menu was just beginning to become monotonous. Freshly cooked fish were served each day so the menu did reflect this, but the choice of how the fish was cooked and the accompaniments remained unchanged throughout our stay. Starters and desserts did change though. We weren’t able to swim in the sea every day as the waves were sometimes quite high and, although fun to jump, clearly the hotel considered it unsafe for swimming on two days of our stay. We walked ***** the beach in the evening of the first two days and it was beautiful, but on the third day after the waves were particularly high there were so ***y plastic bottles and some other debris which had been washed up that it wasn’t so appealing. On an average pace 20 minute stretch of our walk on the third evening we counted 340 plastic bottles. This is obviously a major problem for the hotel and India as a whole and maybe reflects the world wide environmental problem we now have. Our room was lovely. We’d booked a sea view room, but were excited to be offered a pool dipping room and naturally accepted. We did use the plunge pool a few times, but whether we’d have considered it good value for money if we’d paid the extra price for it, I’m not sure. As in ***y hot climates, there often seemed to be quite few tiny ants and we couldn’t decide whether they bit or not, but their presence made the outside loungers and pool slightly less appealing. Through the hotel we also booked the Lotus houseboat for the day preceding our stay at The Hermitage and this was a wonderful experience and seemed a lot more luxurious and in quieter backwaters than other people’s experiences I’d heard of further south in Kerala. Our only real quibble was over the making of a dress in the shop. I asked for a dress to be copied in two different materials. One was perfect, but the second still doesn’t look right. I ordered it on the second day which I though gave plenty of time given three hour orders were being received. However, I had to retur

Clear and clean beach. Perfect if you want to enjoy beach. Restaurant and room service is good. Food is less spicy. Cottages are really spacious and comfortable. Only problem is mosquito...but resort provides Odomos cream in each room. Our room had flying frog..but one call and helper team came and removed frog from washroom. Good facility is given at entry of each cottage to wash foot/sand in case you are coming from beach.. Greenery every where..and nice hibiscus flowers in most of resorts... Beach is empty ..only you and few more from same resort...you can really enjoy beach....

We just retuned from a 3 night stay at Malabar Ocean front and it was a perfect getaway. The villa was very economical and let the whole family stay together. Its huge living room was a bonus for us to hangout together one night when we have heavy rains outside. Staff from both reception & restaurant were always responsive and helpful. Bfast buffet had few dishes but they were well made. Also all the in room orders were delicious so hats off the chefs there. We had a baby with us and kitchen staff were helpful to cook the food we carried for him. Did nto find the time to try the spa and due to covid the swimming pool was off limit so hoping to do one more trip bck there soon
