Lake Tekapo Resorts

The room was very spacious and new, with a great location directly facing the lake. It had a kitchen and dining facilities, and although we didn't cook, it was fully equipped for anyone who wanted to. We checked in around 5 PM, and the owner was there to assist, even giving us a bottle of milk. Later arrivals check in independently, as there's no one at the front desk then. Hotels on the South Island typically don't provide amenities like slippers or toothbrushes. I knew toothbrushes weren't included, so it was good I brought my own slippers.

Pros: The location is superb; it's probably the closest accommodation to Lake Tekapo, right in the heart of the tourist area. It's an easy walk to all the restaurants and the Church of the Good Shepherd. The hygiene is good, the room is very clean, and although the facilities are basic, they meet essential needs. There's a shared kitchen and a common lounge area with beautiful lake views. It's very popular, and both check-in and check-out are convenient. The bathroom is quite spacious. You can park your car in the free public parking lot in the scenic area. Cons: The room space is very cramped, and the windows in the lake-view rooms are small. The facilities are relatively simple. Compared to its price, the value for money is low.

We stayed at motel room, the space just nice to fit 2 small size adult people 😬 not soundproof wall, you can hear neighbour next door snoring/talking . but location was very convenient, near to town, and facing the Lake Tekapo, check-in/check-out was so smooth & the staffs were very friendly and helpful! probably other type of room better next time!

Very nice location, good for relaxing, 1 km from town center, but so close to the lake by just crossing the street. I would love to stay longer next time. If you reach late at night, it’s better to contact hotel in advance and ask for map and photos of your room location before. I arrived very late at night from Christchurch (changed transit flight from Auckland). It took me awhile to understand the map, room location and where to park. It was just 1 day after new moon. So, it was very dark. It’s hard for me to figure out the scale of the place and I didn’t see the small cabin at the back from the street.

We mentioned during our booking that the stay was for our honeymoon, and we were pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful touches the hotel provided. The room was beautifully decorated, and we received a lovely welcome letter congratulating us on our honeymoon, which made us feel truly special. One of the highlights was the skylight panel above the bed—it exceeded our expectations. Once we turned off the lights, we could clearly see a stunning view of the stars, adding a magical touch to our stay.

The hotel is in a good location. I booked the same room with my friend, but my friend got a large suite, while I only got a small room. I don't know why. Although it is shown to be opened in 2023, the facilities look old. The room rate includes breakfast, which is eaten in the hotel's cooperative restaurant. Coffee has to be paid separately. It is recommended not to choose a motel with breakfast.

I booked this two months in advance and specifically requested a room facing Lake Tekapo via email. While it was indeed a lake-view room, there was a slight obstruction in front, which was a bit disappointing. However, the room itself was very satisfying – a fully equipped apartment-style hotel room. I was pleasantly surprised to find a fast phone charger too! Since dining options are limited there, I also booked the hotel breakfast, which offered a great variety, including Chinese fried rice. I had hoped to stargaze as there were many stars at night, but the parking area was small and very dark, so I didn't venture out. I hope to come back someday to see the Milky Way!

The bathroom had a really foul smell, and even with ventilation, it didn't help; it was coming from the toilet, which was quite nauseating. The main advantage of this place is its location, being close to the lake, so you can easily walk there at night for stargazing. The accommodation itself is pretty mediocre. For the same price, you'd find better lodging in Wanaka, but I guess this is just how it is in Tekapo.

This location is a bit far from the lake. The map suggests it's close, but it's actually quite a distance away. The cleanliness is generally good! The biggest issue is the poor insulation. There's only a small electric heater against the wall. Although the bed has an electric blanket, the temperature inside is very low. You have to wear a hat and scarf to cover your face to avoid freezing. The blanket is also very thin. I suggest the hotel install adequate heating. For winter stays, be sure to bring plenty of clothes and a woolen hat and scarf to sleep with to avoid catching a cold.

The environment and location of the hotel are impeccable. It is on the lakeside and close to the Shepherd Church. The small garden is very charming. It has a fairy tale romance. The interior decoration is full of retro feeling. It is very historical. Various facilities are complete. It is highly recommended!
