My flight from Durban to Johannesburg was exhausting in a late afternoon for a business seminar in the following morning. How refreshing to be welcomed by Lerato at Protea Hotel, the check-in was lovely, refreshingly clean and relaxing room, not to mention an appetising buffet dinner with soft classical music. Staff were so polite, friendly and professional throughout. I will choose this again in my next visit to Roodepoort.

I booked my baby shower at Kleine Constantia Boutique Guesthouse months ago and was bitterly disappointed at the way the owner and event coordinator handled my requests. The main reason for booking my event at Kleine Constantia was based on them offering an option to have a picnic in their beautiful garden, just like the picture I have always had of how I would like my baby shower to look. This was confirmed and guaranteed when I was requested to pay the deposit. 2 Weeks before the event I was informed that they were no longer going to allow me to have the picnic in the garden. I reminded them of the agreement and insisted the picnic continues. Once again assurance was given that my event will be hosted in the garden as a picnic. The day before the event I went to the venue and once again assurance was given that the stretch tents will be erected, and everything else will be set up from 7:00 the next morning. When I arrived the next morning at 8:30, the picnic was not set up as promised, nor were any of the stretched tents. When questioned, I was informed that they decided the event will be held on the ‘stoep’ because according to them it was going to rain. It should be noted that at this stage there was no indication that it was going to rain, nor was any rain forecasted for the morning. They didn’t even bother to contact me to inform me about the change in plans but left me to find this out for myself when I arrived. The owner introduced herself and stated that according to the weather app or site she viewed, it was going to rain at approximately 13:00 in the afternoon. My event was scheduled for the morning, so this should therefore not have been an issue. She then offered to set up the picnic and the stretched tents, but my guests were arriving in less than 30 minutes and it was unlikely that everything would have been ready in time. I was in tears with frustration and in adding to my frustration, the owner laughed at me. I told them to just leave everything as they have set it up, not being at all what I wanted for this very special day. Still being very upset the owner approached me, put her arm around my waist and attempted to hug me. I found this very inappropriate and unprofessional. I don’t know her at all and I did not feel comfortable with the uninvited invasion of my personal space. At the end of the day my guests had fun, but again, it was not what I wanted or what I was promised. I was sold an idea and they failed to deliver. The food was adequate, not great. I could have booked my baby shower at a cheaper venue for exactly what I got from Kleine Constantia. I would therefore not recommend Kleine Constantia for your event and still feel extremely disappointed with the way my requests were dealt with, the way I was treated as well as their unprofessionalism.

Looking for a guest house near our married siblings, we discovered this amazing guest house on trip- advisor. It is the best guest house we have ever stayed in. We stayed for a week and Greg and his staff ensured that our stay was delightful. The surroundings are beautiful-adding to the tranquility of our stay.If you are looking for a place on the west rand, then I can highly recommend Homestay travel guest house.

We had our year-end function at Hole in One for 130 people around the pool area. The venue was set-up beautifully for our event, and all 130 people could be seated around in the area. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, the food was great, and an added bonus was that we could even get plated service. The waiter's were on the ball and you didn't wait long for drinks or food. We endured a thunderstorm which forced everyone into the bar area, were we proceeded to dance the afternoon away. What a perfect venue.

generally i had a very good stay and Douw and the team were very helpful and friendly. the onyl two points for imrpovement would be to put tea and coffee stations in the rooms- it's inconvenient early in the morning and late at night to go downstairs to make a cuppa. one other small thing is that the generator is quite loud from room 12, and fumes from the generator actually come into the room... it did disturb my sleep one night.

Bad review, I don’t know how the hotel and Ctrip cooperated. I actually received two room charges. Later, Ctrip refunded the cost. However, I promised to compensate the Ctrip wallet. The result is a flicker. I will compensate 2300 and the result will be compensated. 24 yuan, not enough for my international roaming answering fee, deceiving customers, very dissatisfied, will not come to Ctrip in the future

The hotel is located near the Sinosteel Tower and China Construction Bank in Johannesburg. It is a one-bedroom suite with a kitchen and living room. Someone cleans it every day. The overall environment is good, but the balcony is small. The reason for the low scores on services and facilities is that on the morning of the check-out day, it was discovered that the car was scratched by other vehicles in the parking space, and the B floor was not monitored and the security on duty did not see it. I couldn't solve it after looking for a hotel or building property.

WiFi: you don't advertise free WiFi when it is limited to 500 MB/day, this is simply outrageous and unacceptable. As someone travelling for business I had to go out and buy a local SIM card to manage things. I have asked specifically for non-smoking room - received a smoking one, fortunately it did not stink as bad as I expected. In-room dining was OK, but do not order a pizza ever if you want to live. Some of the staff would not return my morning hellos even on the third day. Last but not least: I did not like the constant disturbance caused by the hotel staff. Every day I received about 2-4 phone calls from them asking if I'm doing okay. Trust me, after the third one that wakes you up after a long night shift you won't be smiling. Next every day at least 1-2 times somebody knocking on my door to ask if I had laundry, or if I'm finally leaving the room (!!) because they want to do housekeeping. I never experienced anything like this in any hotel, most of the time people leave you alone which is my preference as well. Last day at 8am again knocking on the door, a staff member wanted to perform housekeeping. I told her I'll be checking out around 9:30, so come back after that. Again knocking at 9:30 sharp. I told her sorry I need like 1 more minute to finish up packing, she pouted and said "but Sir you said you will leave at 9:30"...I mean come on, check out time is 11, I take 1 minute more for packing and I'm basically being kicked out of my room? Crazy.

Located in Sandown, at the heart of Sandton meant traveling around the district was convenient and time-saving so it’s great if you want the best of everything in Johannesburg. The hotel is relatively new and very clean, they seem to adhere to high hygiene standards and their rooms are fresh and well stocked. They have a fantastic pool and jacuzzi area and this was where I enjoyed spending most of my time, just wish there wasn’t an obvious fence immediately after the infinity pool as I feel this defeats the purpose. Not a place I recommend for high-profile guests simply because coming and going was too easy and there wasn’t much privacy outside of the room. The breakfast buffet as well as the food menu were quite a disappointment except for their steaks and cocktails: the breakfast range was limited so forking R240 pp each day felt like a rip-off. The service was generally incredible, with warm and friendly staff ready to greet you at every corner.

I went to the other city in the middle and stayed at the hotel twice. The service was just as good. It was only 9 o'clock at the hotel on the first day, but the waiter still let us stay, and did not charge any fees. The front desk staff was very kind and communicated with each guest. There was no problem with the check-in. The two stays were very smooth and the hotel’s car rental service was also on time.

Stayed in the 4 bedroom villa which was booked on bookings.com based on how amazing it looked. What we got was the total opposite of amazing. The first Villa we were put into had the couch peeling and no tv in the main bedroom. We were then moved into another villa. Slighty better (huge emphasis on the slight!) Toilets are filthy, glass door is broken, door locks are falling off, walls have patches on them, different colour downlights (x2 of them constantly flickering and another 4 not working at all), shower has algae or some sort of stain on the flooring, wooden floors are damaged in the rooms, only the main lounge has ac, the rest of the rooms have fans, person in charge has no decision making abilities at all. Hygiene is severely lacking. All issues we complained about was returned with the excuse that a long term tentant has left the villa and they are having maintenance done but progress was slow due to the holiday season. Keep in mind there were no signs posted anywhere about maintenance. As well as people complaining on review sites of the same issues 1 year ago. We still paid the full rate of stay (R4876.00 a night). We requested a full refund on new years eve upon arriving and waited 3 hours for run around answers and ultimately had to walk out the office due to nothing productive happening. Hours later the management offers us breakfast on the house provided we be there at 7am on new years day! An absolute insult which I turned down immediately. Against all odds we decided to stay because we clearly could not book elsewhere without a refund and it being so late on nye eve. The very next day we get back to have a shower in the afternoon, 3 of us have a shower and only 1 person had hot water. The rest of us had to have cold showers. Once again management took forever to accommodate the problem which resulted in all of us having a cold shower. The 2nd night of us stay the electricity continuously kept tripping (which they blamed load shedding for). We went to the guard house at 2am to ask about the generator which he said had no diesel. This was a problem because my family member uses a sleep apnea machine to sleep which now he could not use. Management the next morning says there was diesel and does not know why he said that. An absolute joke. Upon checking out a place we were forced to stay in due to no refund we were subjected to an inspection of the villa by the prison guard throwing bedsheets and pillows cases down the staircase while we as the prisons waited for them to release us from this hell hole that we paid to be in. Never in my life have I experience such pathetic service and such hostility. I urge everyone to read the reviews of places before you book and definitely not stay here! Absolutely shocking service.

My kids and i were highly dissapointed with this place. When we arrived, one of the rooms were not ready, and another room was allocated. There are no double beds, only 2 single beds put together. The pool was not cleaned and even upon request from my kids it still was not cleaned for them to utilise. They ended up sweeping leaves themselves just to be able to go in the pool. There are cockroaches in the rooms and in the dining area. Althouhg the rooms have mini fridges, there is no water or even a complimentary wine, its empty. Breakfast is all that they serve. I feel that they can serve dinner even at a fee. There is no bar or entertainment area. Basically the place is dull. It being in Santon, we expected far better, we were dissapointed.

We visited Rivonia Premier Lodge with 27 French students aged 15-17 as part of a school trip. Fillitah, Quentin and the rest of the team made our stay absolutely unforgettable! Fillitah's organisation skills are honed to perfection! The grounds are so green and spacious that it's hard to believe you're in J'burg. We saw lots of local birds too at breakfast, a real change from Europe! The rooms are spotlessly clean and have everything you need: tea, coffee, rusks, towels even a torch by the bedside. Quentin made mealtimes a real pleasure: breakfast with plenty of fresh fruit and cereals and also eggs and bacon cooked to order. One if our students fell in love with the grilled bananas! Our evening meals were also catered for with taste and professionalism. Serving a group of 30 each evening is no easy feat but they did so with ease! Leaving Rivonia really felt like we were leaving friends. The welcome was so genuine and we really got to talk to people there. The owner, Gerard and his wife took the time to chat with us and even gave us tips for the rest of our trip! An absolutely wonderful stay that deserves 5*s on all counts! Recommended to anyone: families or business trips.

We came to Johannesburg to visit family for 3 weeks from the UK, so this place is a superb base if you wish to travel around. The experience is personal and the rooms are unique and beautifully furnished. Spend your money here, big chain hotels are boring and all look the same. Peaceful and safe, the owner and staff are wonderful and made our stay everything we needed - and so much more. I have stayed in some fine hotels and guest houses for both business and pleasure but I will never stay anywhere else when visiting Johannesburg. I would highly recommend Thatchfoord Lodge to anyone. Thanks again for making our holiday one to remember. See you next year 👍

The guest house is nicely located in that it is within close proximity to Sandton and Rosebank making it an appropriate place to stay on business. The guest house is very secure which was useful when coming back late from work. The security guard at the gate was friendly and escorted me to my room, showed me the facilities and explained the necessary procedural details (breakfast hour etc.). The breakfast was delicious with a wide array to choose from. The room itself was clean and so was the bathroom. All necessities (such as towels, toilet paper etc) were sufficiently provided. Overall I was satisfied with my stay.

I've been at this property now for a couple of days (have now uploaded photos) and whilst on day one I was delighted by the square footage, the room having a lounge area and washing machine, by day three I have come to the realisation that this property doesn't supply the basics and is in dire need of deep renovation. Whilst its a decent sized space, the biggest issues are: Shabby sofa / furniture that is worn and lumpy and must be replaced with upholstery and buttons falling off. Fitted wardrobe is off its rails and doesn't close properly (this could be so easily fixed before a guest arrives). 10+ year old TV connected to an SD DStv decoder (not PVR, Not HD) via composite cable and a 14 inch CRT TV from the 1990s in the bedroom - so easily replaced without needing full room renovation . Rain water flooding into room and making carpets wet Shower head can't be moved downwards and away from the shower door causing flooding of the bathroom. Again something that can be easily fixed. No Iron or Ironing Board in the room, despite having a washing machine, this property doesn't even provide the basics of an iron and ironing board which can be found in almost every other hotel worldwide. Limited privacy as the whole length of the space has full length windows with the curtains not fully covering the windows. Light switches and other fixtures and fittings falling off or broken. Despite this, staff have been friendly and generally helpful, but for the price this place is hugely disappointing and doesn't meet basic standards for repair / and basic equipment etc. e.g. room TVs. There is little I can commend to anyone and I feel rather let down by the whole experience. I would no recommend staying here again under any circumstances as there are so many options at much better prices.

I spent the night in a 1-bedroom suite over Meetings Africa this year. This is the first time I have stayed at CY Sandton and what an absolutely delightful experience it was. The room was immaculate and so spacious (WOW), plenty of tea and coffee options (including coffee machine) in the suite to sustain me. One of the things that really struck me was how pleasant all of the staff were, from check-in late at night to breakfast the next morning. Everyone was welcoming and clearly happy and proud to work here - that immediately makes the entire experience a pleasure. I also discovered that there are staff members (like the chef and F&B Manager) who have worked at the hotel for around 20 or more years each. And they still love it and are still proud of what they do and where they do it. That is incredible in a day and age where everyone is constantly looking for the next big thing. I will definitely go back; it was well worth the visit.
