The hotel is located on the wrong side, nearly 80 kilometers away from Liangjin Wharf, and 1 hour by bus. It is dark from the starting point to the terminal station. The hotel does not provide pick-up and check-in. I walked about 3 kilometers in the dark with my luggage. No street lights. The worthy thing is that the environment is beautiful and there are basically no tourists. There are no special features and attractions.

Location : 24km from Ryotsu Ferry Terminal, can only be accessible by car, or indirect bus (1 transfer) and bus only runs every 2 hour, if you miss once, a.k.a you miss a morning. In my case i cycled there with overnight bicycle rental ( 2000yen) since its too far to return in 1 day. Then its pretty much 15-30 km away from attraction. It has seaview , from afar, it is Not seaside, it is on the hill looking down to a highway and the sea. Facilities and cleaness: good, japanese standard Service: the owner is ok, but she does not speak english much, when i emailed snd ask ger how to go from ferry terminal to the hotel, she ask me to ask others, never mentioned the complications of the bus service there. And surprisingly enough, her follow-up emailS were to convince me to order dinner and breakfast there, dinner at 2000 yen, quite expensive compared to the price there. i didnt explore the island since i only planned gor 1 night stay and did not have appropriate trabsport to go around.

This hotel is barely a year old and is doing a lot of business. I think it was at capacity on the 2 nights we stayed but the soundproofing is very good. English is at a minimum but adequate. Rooms are very tiny and have the smallest bathrooms I’ve ever encountered. We ended up getting 2 rooms so we wouldn’t get in each others way. The small informal hotel restaurant was extremely good because the chef can really cook. He has even produced an handwritten English menu. It’s just as well because there’s just nowhere else in town to eat which has an English menu. In fact menus written in English are a complete rarity on the island. Just a few facts - if you want an early check in, you will pay for it - around ¥1,000 an hour for an early check in. There’s a very useful coin operated laundry and microwave. There’s just one lift to service the entire building - it was a little annoying at times and lastly, I paid the same amount per room per night here as I did for a 4 star hotel in Niigata.

It is located about 5 minutes drive from the Ryotsu Port, 20-30mins walk with luggage on narrow roads. The Hotel has a shuttle service. The hotel is accessed by taking a slight left off the main road and up a hill. Be prepared the building is very run down on the outside. The staff don’t speak any English but no one else does on the island as there is no need. The staff are great and try very hard to make your stay enjoyable, loaning us the motorised bicycles each day - fantastic fun! helping us with directions to the coin laundry 20mins on bike, places to eat etc. Their onsen is a highlight, especially the private onsens that you can book, with no extra cost and overlook the lake. Both the private and communal onsens are outside and overlook the lake, fabulous end to the day! Our room overlooked the lake and the car park/onsens across the road. Was clean and quiet. Futons on the tatami floor are good quality - although we used two each for more comfort and the doona cover and yukattas are also good quality and changed each day with the small towels and he room clean. The rooms would be so much better with fly screens so the windows could stay open longer. The accommodation is only worth 3 but we will give it a 4 because of the efforts of the staff.

We wanted to stay in Ogi to explore the old port town of Shukunegi. We chose this ryokan as it was among those recommended by Niigata Tourist Bureau. We were expecting a traditional ryokan and were surprised to see a Western style exterior. Reception was on the right of the entrance hall with a very high ceiling. We were asked if dinner at 18:30 and breakfast at 7:30 was OK to which we said yes. We received the key to our room which faced the inner lawn. It was a warm day, so we went to enjoy the onsen bath before dinner. The inner onsen bath appeared a bit tired but was well maintained. The open air bath is not large but was very relaxing. We were surprised at the dinner which was better than the larger ryokans we had stayed in Sado. It was composed of really fresh local seafood. The futon bed was comfortable enough. Breakfast served in a different room was basic but healthy and good enough. Good place to stay if you are not expecting the service level of a traditional ryokan.

The Pension Nagakura is a home converted into a bed and breakfast. It was perfect for us.The hosts were very kind. They kept our luggage all day prior to check-in - while we toured the island. They provided a hand-drawn map showing which bus stop in the Mano District was closest to the Inn. The breakfast was fantastic - egg and sausage and bread, yogurt, and OJ, with a green salad (very Japanese). When we left, they offered a free short car ride to the bus stop, since it was drizzling. Great stay!. - Yes, the bathroom is a bit tight, but we are used to that. - Small supermarket 10 minutes away by foot where we bought bread, cheese, and fruit for lunch.
